(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) The New York City Police Department issued a stark warning to all residents, urging them to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities that might indicate the potential for a terrorist attack.
The caution, issued in a public statement on Wednesday, comes as Hamas leaders call for a worldwide uprising against Israel, heightening concerns for public safety both in the United States and abroad.
According to the NYPD, the Oct. 7 assault on Israel has raised tensions, prompting the department to adopt precautionary measures.
“We are currently in a heightened threat environment,” the statement read. “The NYPD is doing everything we can do to forestall future violence in our city. However, we know the ongoing events overseas may resonate with individuals domestically and that is hard to anticipate.”

The NYPD highlighted the importance of residents’ engagement, resurrecting the famous phrase, “See something, say something.”
“The NYPD asks all New Yorkers to remain vigilant and reminds everyone if they see something to say something. For these reasons, the NYPD is continuing with our Citywide all-out deployment and all in-service training will continue to be postponed until further notice,” the statement continued.

The NYPD’s measures come after Hamas leaders called for a global uprising in support of the terror group’s assault against Israeli civilians. Both Hamas founder Khaled Meshal and Hamas political chief Ismail Haniyeh called on Arabs in neighboring countries to support Hamas.
Concerns were echoed by FBI Director Christopher Wray, who emphasized on Saturday the importance of preparedness and awareness during the International Association of Chiefs of Police conference in California.
“In this heightened environment, there’s no question we’re seeing an increase in reported threats, and we have to be on the lookout, especially for lone actors who may take inspiration from recent events to commit violence of their own,” Wray said.

“And I’d encourage you to stay vigilant, because as the first line of defense in protecting our communities, you’re often the first to see the signs that someone may be mobilizing to violence. And I’d also ask you to continue sharing any intelligence or observations you may have.”
Wray assured the public that the FBI’s office in Israel is actively collaborating with local forces to identify potential threats and assist affected Americans.
“Reports of deceased, injured, or unaccounted for Americans are being treated with the utmost urgency and aggressively investigated. The FBI’s Victim Services Division is coordinating with the Department of State to assist, as necessary, with family engagement,” he concluded.
