(Alex Tien, Headline USA) More liberal states are continuing to make abortion accessible as Roe v. Wade is set to be challenged later this year.
Last week, Colorado leftist Gov. Jared Polis signed a bill that permitted abortion up until birth. This week, liberal legislators in Maryland have passed into law a bill that allows for abortions to be practiced by a wide-ranging number of health care workers. Nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and certain midwives are now able to provide abortions in Maryland.
Republican Gov. Larry Hogan had earlier vetoed the bill, and Democrats have now voted to override his veto.
Hogan, explaining his veto decision, stated that, “As governor, I have upheld my commitment to take no action that would affect Maryland law where it concerns reproductive rights. With this action, I am reaffirming that commitment.”
He also remarked how the bill “endangers the health and lives of women by allowing non-physicians to perform abortions. The bill risks lowering the high standard of reproductive health care services received by women in Maryland. These procedures are complex, and can, and often do, result in significant medical complications that require the attention of a licensed physician.”
Republican Delegate Matthew Morgan agreed with the dangers and potential for serious medical harm.
“You could easily rename this bill ‘The Abortion Tourism Act of 2022’ because that’s what this bill really does,” he said, according to the Washington Post. “It basically expands it to anybody but the receptionist.
“The only impact that this bill would have on women’s reproductive rights would be to set back standards for women’s health care and safety.”
In what could be a watershed year for the pro-life movement, with the Supreme Court set to reconsider Roe vs. Wade this year, the actions of Maryland Democrats are yet another sad and horrifying example of the leftist commitment to infanticide.
