(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) In a predictable turn of events, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel has filed felony charges against 16 Michigan residents for their alleged involvement in an alternate elector effort during the 2020 election, following years of investigation.
Nessel accuses the 16 supporters of secretly meeting in the basement of the Michigan GOP and signing certificates that falsely claimed they were the duly elected representatives for the state. These alleged fraudulent certifications were then submitted to the U.S. Senate and the National Archives, with the intention of replacing the electors chosen by Michigan voters.
Nessel, a Democrat known for her far-left stances, defended the charges against Trump supporters despite ongoing criticism. “The false electors’ actions undermined the public’s faith in the integrity of our elections and, we believe, also plainly violated the laws by which we administer our elections in Michigan,” Nessel claimed in a press release on Tuesday.
The Michigan attorney general claimed to have previously prosecuted cases of voter fraud but characterized the alternate elector movement as an “organized effort” to circumvent the 2020 election. If found guilty, the suspects now face multiple charges that could result in a maximum sentence of 66 years.
The severe charges, celebrated by anti-Trump critics, drew sharp criticism from concerned Republican leaders who believe it is merely a witch hunt intended to tarnish former President Donald Trump and his supporters.

Similarly, DC Draino, a prominent conservative attorney, expressed outrage over the charges, citing a double standard. “Michigan AG charges 16 Trump electors w/felonies for sending alternate electors,” Draino said on Tuesday. “Here’s video of a van dropping off 100s of thousands of ballots around 3 AM in Detroit w/o any GOP monitors Where are the felonies for these election stealers?”
Raheem Kassam, the editor-in-chief of the National Pulse, echoed Draino’s sentiments, stating, “They’re criminalising being pro Trump now.” Prominent commentator Cernovich joined the chorus of criticism, adding, “Check the ages. Michigan’s Democrat machine is targeting retirees. The average age of the defendants is north of 70. This is designed to eliminate the most experienced Republican poll watches.” In a separate Twitter post, Cernovich said, “The Bolsheviks have returned.”
