Johnson Reveals Reason Weiss Tapped as Special Counsel of Bidens Probe

'He's probably the least independent individual that Merrick Garland could have appointed, and that's who Merrick Garland appointed. Go figure...'

(Luis CornelioHeadline USA) In an interview with Fox News host Will Cain, Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wis., expressed his concerns about the promoting of David Weiss, the current U.S. district attorney for Delaware, to special counsel in the criminal investigation of President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden.

On the August 12 edition of Fox & Friends Weekend, Johnson criticized Weiss for lacking independence and questioned whether the treatment of Hunter Biden would be fair under his tenure as district attorney.

During the interview, Cain asked, “David Weiss’ title has changed, why should we think the treatment of Hunter Biden will change?”

In response, Johnson didn’t mince his words predicting that Hunter will still be protected by the DOJ. “We have no expectation it would change,” Johnson said. “The sweetheart deal, the plea agreement was really a grotesque miscarriage of justice. This is something that U.S. Attorney Weiss and his prosecutor tried to pull the wool over the eyes of the court and the judge. Fortunately, the judge saw through it and asked some pretty embarrassing questions, and they had to retreat from the deal.”

He went on to assert, “U.S. Attorney Weiss has no intention of holding Hunter Biden or any of his family members, including President Biden, who is corrupted… accountable.”

The Wisconsin senator cited current regulations on the appointment of special counsels, saying, “We needed an independent prosecutor here, in some way, shape, or form. Well, the regulations state the special counsel has to come from outside the government. [Weiss]’s obviously in government. But I think the more serious offense is that he has no independence whatsoever.”

In his scorching criticism of Weiss, Johnson went as far as calling him “the least independent individual that Merrick Garland could have appointed.” Johnson accused Garland of purposely keeping Weiss as the chief investigator of the Bidens’ potential crimes as a plot to protect the First Family. “That’s who Merrick Garland appointed. Go figure,” Johnson concluded.
