Hunter’s Probe Puts Easy-to-Beat Handgun Charge over Serious FARA Breach

'As the investigation has entered its final stages, prosecutors have narrowed their focus to tax and gun-related charges... '

(Headline USA) As the federal investigation into Hunter Biden winds down, new details about his alleged wrongdoings have come to light.

For example, officials revealed that Hunter was considered the victim in a 2018 incident in which law enforcement was called after a firearm Hunter had purchased was discarded in a public trashcan by his then-girlfriend Hallie Biden. Law enforcement even asked Hunter if he wanted to press charges against Hallie for taking his weapon and throwing it away, but he declined.

“He was technically a victim of a theft of a firearm. But in Delaware, we don’t prosecute unless a victim is willing to pursue prosecution, so that incident was cleared out with no victim cooperation,” a source familiar with the investigation said. “Which means the victim does not want prosecution.”

However, federal prosecutors are also looking into whether Hunter committed a crime when purchasing the weapon by falsely filling out the record. The document shows Hunter falsely answered “No” when asked, “Are you an unlawful user of or addicted to, marijuana or any depressant, stimulant, narcotic drug, or any other controlled substance?”

Federal prosecutors could also charge Hunter for failing to register as a foreign agent while conducting overseas business deals, according to the New York Post

While he registered as a lobbyist for domestic interests, he never registered under the federal Foreign Agents Registration Act, even though he was acting as a representative of a “foreign principal,” which is broadly defined to include government officials, foreign corporations, political organizations, influential private interests, and more. This is a crime punishable by up to five years in prison and a $250,000 fine.

Despite this, reports about the federal investigation suggest Hunter will get off easy. Several Justice Department sources familiar with the investigation told CNN that Hunter might face “tax and gun-related charges,” but will likely get a pass on his shady foreign business deals with Ukraine and China.

“The Justice Department investigation initially focused on Hunter Biden’s financial and business activities in foreign countries dating to when Joe Biden was vice president,” CNN reported. “As the investigation has entered its final stages, prosecutors have narrowed their focus to tax and gun-related charges.”
