(Headline USA) The Justice Department was slammed on Tuesday after revealing it had reached a plea deal with Hunter Biden, who is poised to avoid jail time if he pleads guilty to alleged tax and firearm violations.
As part of the sweetheart deal, the embattled First Son will plead guilty to misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax in 2017 and 2018, and enter a pre-trial diversion on a felony gun possession charge, meaning the gun charge could be dropped altogether if he meets certain requirements.
The felony gun possession charge alone normally carries a minimum 5-year prison sentence, according to former U.S. attorney Brett Tolman.
“Thousands of people have been prosecuted under Project Safe Neighborhoods by DOJ,” Tolman tweeted. “They brag about getting nearly 5 years of prison time on average for their gun cases. If they followed policy, Hunter would be looking at a minimum of 5 years in federal prison. But he’s a Biden.”
Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., the chairman of the House Oversight Committee and head of a congressional investigation into the Bidens, vowed to continue uncovering evidence against Hunter Biden.
“Let’s be clear,” he said in a statement. “The Department of Justice’s charges against President Biden’s son Hunter reveals a two-tiered system of justice. Hunter Biden is getting away with a slap on the wrist when growing evidence uncovered by the House Oversight Committee reveals the Bidens engaged in a pattern of corruption, influence peddling and possibly bribery.”

Florida GOP governor and presidential candidate Ron DeSantis agreed, and said the only reason Hunter Biden is getting a sweetheart plea deal is because he’s “connected to the elite DC class.”
Former President Donald Trump pointed to the plea deal as additional evidence that the justice system is rigged and “broken.”
“Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere ‘traffic ticket.’ Our system is BROKEN!” he wrote on Truth Social.
