(Headline USA) Disgraced Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors claimed this week that she is being “targeted” by the government after several states threatened to hold the organization in contempt for its shady financial practices.
Cullors, who was forced to resign from Black Lives Matter last year over allegations that she used the organization’s funds to buy lavish mansions for herself, said it is “deeply disturbing” that Washington and California officials are skeptical of the way BLM is handling its $60 million in funding.
“I’m being targeted because I’m part of a long legacy of civil rights workers and human rights leaders who have effectively fought and won the U.S. government, both at the local level, statewide, nationally,” Cullors said during an interview on Wednesday at Morehouse College, adding that she has “never done anything illegal.”
“It’s this idea that I’m sneaky or I’m doing something nefarious, and that’s incredibly anti-black and sexist,” she said. “We have to call it what it is.”
Cullors then claimed that she and other BLM leaders experienced “collective trauma” last year after a report revealed she had purchased four homes across the country worth a total of $3.4 million.
It was particularly upsetting to see so many black reporters cover the controversy, she said.
“To see them post about me, and then the black media — I put in quotes, not all black media is actually black — spread those rumors … I was naive to think black journalists and black media would be interested in talking to me first versus spreading misinformation and disinformation,” she said.
The Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation was forced to shut down its online fundraising arm last week after the California Justice Department threatened to hold the organization’s leaders personally liable if they did not divulge information about who is in charge of the charity’s $60 million bankroll.
