DeSantis Stirs Pot by Denouncing Ukraine’s ‘Territorial Dispute’

'While the U.S. has many vital national interests... becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them... '

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., announced that he does not believe supporting Ukraine is a “vital” national interest for the United States in a survey response featured on Fox News.

According to NBC News, DeSantis came out against the Biden administration’s “blank check” approach to the invasion and warned against becoming further entrenched in the dispute.

“While the U.S. has many vital national interests—securing our borders, addressing the crisis of readiness within our military, achieving energy security and independence, and checking the economic, cultural, and military power of the Chinese Communist Party—becoming further entangled in a territorial dispute between Ukraine and Russia is not one of them,” DeSantis wrote in a questionnaire response that Tucker Carlson later shared on his Twitter feed.

The Florida governor also called the conflict a “distraction” from America’s more pressing, immediate issues.

However, DeSantis did not explicitly say he would end the funding to the eastern European nation.

Former President Donald Trump replied to the survey with a similar answer.

“No. We should support regime change in the United States, that’s far more important,” he stated. “The Biden administration are the ones who got us into this mess.”

Leftist Twitter users, RINO politicians and Forever War proponents responded by saying DeSantis and Trump were “abandoning” Ukraine and decried their responses as “dangerous.”

“Trump and DeSantis have both sold out conservatism for some strange form of socialism and government control of free markets,” Adam Kinzinger, former politician and current CNN talking head said in a Twitter post. “And now both have abandoned Ukraine.”

“DeSantis actually called Russia’s grotesque, aggressive invasion of a sovereign country a ‘territorial dispute,” replied Journalist David French. “Now both front-runners for the GOP nomination are weaker on Russian aggression than Joe Biden. Astonishing. Dangerous.”

“Ron DeSantis just made clear that if he was President, he would not support Ukraine in its fight against Russian aggression,” tweeted attorney Aaron Parnas. “We suspected this all along, but now he confirmed it. DeSantis is unfit to serve as President of the United States.”
