(Gregg Pupecki – Headline USA) Crime waves are hard to get under control but even harder when leaders responsible for law and order deny the data.
The one data point that is hard to cover up is the homicide count. The count of dead bodies.
“At least 12 major U.S. cities have broken annual homicide records in 2021,” reported ABC News, “and there’s still three weeks to go in the year.”
Philadelphia, one of the hardest hit cities, has the highest homicide rate since 1990.
“It’s just crazy,” said Mayor Jim Kenney at a news conference. “It’s just crazy and this needs to stop.”
He probably shouldn’t bank on the City of Brotherly Love’s prosecutor office for much help.
Philadelphia DA Larry Krasner, the official responsible for prosecuting violent criminals, stated in his weekly press conference that there is no major spike in violent crime.
“It’s important that we don’t let this become mushy and bleed into the notion that there is some kind of big spike in crime. There isn’t,” he said.
“There is not a big spike in crime,” he added. “There is not a big spike in violent crime. Neither one of these things is true.”
The official data shows a different picture.
“We’re extremely frustrated,” said Rochester Police Captain Frank Umbrino, after Rochester, New York, broke its 30-year homicide record.
“It has to stop,” he said. “I mean, it’s worse than a war zone around here lately.”
Why are homicides increasing? Robert Boyce, retired chief of detectives for the New York Police and ABC contributor said, “Nobody’s getting arrested anymore.”
“People are getting picked up for gun possession and they’re just let out over and over again,” he said.
Along with homicide records many cities are seeing a rise in ‘smash and grab’ crimes.
Yet, Democrat Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez recently denied existence of ‘smash-and-grab’ robberies and crime saying, “A lot of these allegations of organized retail theft are not actually panning out.”
Walgreens pushed back on her remarks, reported Fox News, arguing organized retail theft is one of the most significant issues plaguing its company specifically. Walgreens has closed over five stores in San Francisco citing “organized” shoplifting, according to the New York Times.
Fox Chicago reports the ‘smash-and-grabs’ in Chicago and the surrounding suburbs seems to be a weekly occurrence.
Chicago Democrat Mayor Lori Lightfoot is under fire for suggesting retail stores are to blame when asked about the recent crimes.
“We also got to push retailers,” she said. “Some of the retailers downtown and on Michigan Avenue, I will tell you, I’m disappointed that they are not doing more to take safety and make it a priority.”
