When Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, referred to the events of Jan. 6 last week as a “violent terrorist attack,” he was widely excoriated by members of his own party, some of whom declared a premature end to his political career.
Cruz was notably chastised by Fox News host Tucker Carlson, who found it hard to swallow that Cruz, as steadfast and true as any conservative in Congress, would throw his own base under the bus.
Wow. Tucker Carlson just confronted Ted Cruz @tedcruz over calling Jan 6 a “violent terrorist” attack. pic.twitter.com/wMyYgrdjmi

After Cruz begged the gaffe off as clumsy phrasing, Carlson called him out.
“I don’t buy that. Whoa, woah, woah! I don’t buy that!” Carlson said.
“… You take words as seriously as any man who’s ever served in the Senate,” he continued. “You repeated that phrase. I do not believe you used it accidentally.”
While others feared that Cruz—who may run for president in 2024—had sold out to big-money donors or that leftist threats to disqualify all “insurrection” supporting congressmen might have gotten to him, Cruz’s tough interrogation Tuesday during a Senate Judiciary hearing suggested another possibility.
It now seems that the prosecutorial-minded Cruz was, as usual, several steps ahead of the rest.
Senator @tedcruz‘s Full Questioning Of The FBI At Senate Judiciary Hearing Today About Whether There Were FBI Informants Present On January 6th And Ray Epps

Cruz was one of several GOP senators who grilled FBI Assistant Director Jill Sanborn over the question of federal plants who may have been involved leading the charge to the US Capitol on Jan. 6.
“Ms. Sanborn, who is Ray Epps?” Cruz asked.
“I am aware of the individual, sir,” Sanborn replied.
“Ms. Sanborn, was Ray Epps a FED?” Cruz continued.
“Sir, I cannot answer that question,” Sanborn evasively responded.
Epps is a suspected plant who has been at the center of theories about a false-flag operation after video surfaced of him trying to lure rallygoers to the Capitol and to coach them on their conduct.
Although Epps had appeared on the FBI’s most wanted list in the initial phases of the Justice Department’s massive J6 inquisition, his name mysteriously vanished afterward.
American Greatness’s Julie Kelly, who—along with Revlover’s Darren Beattie—has led the journalistic charge to expose the truth about Jan. 6, commended Cruz and other senators for their grilling.
Major kudos to @tedcruz @SenMikeLee and @SenTomCotton for line of questioning on January 6, especially Ray Epps and FBI involvement in the event.

Whether Cruz has another ace ready to play, was simply fishing for answers or was still in damage-control mode from last week remains to be seen.
However, the threads appeared to be connecting on a broader strategy that could prove the FBI has become a leading state sponsor of domestic terrorism.
While the FBI largely attempted to stonewall the GOP senators, Kelly and others noted that Sanborn’s evasiveness seemed extraordinarily telling.
Samborn: Not to my knowledge.
Not exactly an assuring answer.
That was some shady performance by Sanborn. Eyes darting around, evasive.
Cruz directly asked how many FBI assets on January 6. She said, “I won’t go into sources and methods.”
Real Comey vibe there.
