Chuck Todd Accuses DeSantis of ‘Politicizing’ Communism by Teaching about It

'We have a number of people in Florida, particularly southern Florida, who’ve escaped totalitarian regimes, who’ve escaped communist dictatorships ... '

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) NBC News host Chuck Todd responded to the implementation of “Victims of Communism Day,” in Florida, complaining that by implementing the day, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis is “politicizing” communism.

According to the Daily Wire, “Victims of Communism Day” is meant to “teach… students at all grade levels about the evils of communist regimes throughout history.”

“We’re also the first state in the country to establish every November 10th, the day in our schools is earmarked, to teach our students at all grade levels about the evils of Communist regimes throughout history,” DeSantis said at a recent press conference in Las Vegas.. “We’re going to tell the truth about Marxism and Leninism.”

The very suggestion of teaching about communism offended Todd, who even suggested it is redundant.

“I went to Florida public schools,” Todd declared, “We were taught this, it was called history. It just seems like a weird politicizing, you know, he’s going out of his way to politicize something.”

Todd’s take drew severe criticism on Twitter.

“Wait, what? A politician politicizing something,” user Patrick Flannelly said. “Gadzooks, what is the world coming to?”

“Isn’t communism a political philosophy?” another user pointed out.

“90% of teacher union donations go to Democratic candidates,” said user Holly Thornton. “They prioritize POLITICAL rhetoric over math & science in the classrooms, which is why our kids are falling behind globally. But sure, @chucktodd, it’s TOTES DeSantis & Republicans who are politicizing education.”

DeSantis’s passed a trio of civil literacy bills emphasizing the horrors of communism, as many of Florida’s residents escaped from communist regimes, such as Cuba.

“We have a number of people in Florida, particularly southern Florida, who’ve escaped totalitarian regimes, who’ve escaped communist dictatorships to be able to come to America,” DeSantis said.

The bills also target critical race theory in school curricula, with DeSantis arguing that “race essentialism” has no place in Florida.
