Former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said he would not rule out a 2024 presidential run — even against President Donald Trump, if he runs.
“I would not rule it out,” he told the Hugh Hewitt Show on Monday.
“If I go and look up Christie2024, will that URL already be reserved?” Hewitt asked Christie.
“ChrisChristie.com is, sir, so we’re gonna keep that one and we’ll see where we go from here,” he replied.
Christie ran against Trump in the 2016 Republican primary but later dropped out of the race and endorsed him.
He since became an ally to the president, serving as the head of the president’s 2016 transition planning team and helping Trump prep for his debates against Democratic candidate Joe Biden.
However, the two men have been at odds ever since Christie criticized Trump’s messaging on the coronavirus.
And even though he helped Trump during the 2020 campaign, Christie was one of the first Republicans to publicly break with the president and call on Trump to concede to Biden.
Christie also chastised Trump for not taking his advice ahead of the first presidential debate against Biden.
“The last bit of advice, you know, I was in the Oval Office with him, and he’s getting ready to leave for the debate. And he said to me, you get one last shot,” Christie told Hewitt. “And I said let Joe Biden talk. If you let him talk, he will hurt himself. And he gave me a thumbs-up, and he walked out of the Oval Office. And he interrupted him 71 times in 90 minutes. So no, he didn’t, that was not the debate I advised him to have.”
Christie dropped out of the 2016 primaries after dismal showings in Iowa and New Hampshire, having not won a single delegate.
