Biden’s FDA Greenlights Pharmacies to Peddle Abortion Pills

'The FDA's decision to lower safety regulations on the abortion pill and now make it easier for minors to access seems to have more to do with a political agenda than health and safety... '

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) In yet another attempt to circumvent the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, the Biden administration’s Food and Drug Administration on Tuesday decreed that chain drugstores can now directly peddle abortion pills over the counter to clients looking to kill their unborn babies.

FDA officials ruled that the abortion pill mifepristone is safe enough to allow pharmacies like CVS and Walgreen’s to begin dispensing the pills with a certified health care provider’s prescription.

The decision was made despite the FDA conceding that it had “received reports of serious adverse events in patients who took mifepristone.”

“As of June 30, 2022, there were 28 reports of deaths in patients associated with mifepristone since the product was approved in September 2000, including two cases of ectopic pregnancy (a pregnancy located outside the womb, such as in the fallopian tubes) resulting in death; and several fatal cases of severe systemic infection (also called sepsis),” the FDA wrote.

“The adverse events cannot with certainty be causally attributed to mifepristone,” officials concluded, “because of concurrent use of other drugs” and other factors.

Big Pharma hailed the ruling as a step in the right direction, according to the Associated Press. One of the abortion pill pushers, Danco Laboratories, said the change “is critically important to expanding access to medication abortion services and will provide healthcare providers.”

Under the FDA’s new ruling, only states that already allow the use of abortion pills will be impacted. Critics contend the new rule helps circumvent those laws, enabling pill-seekers from states where they are banned to pay a quick visit to the nearest pharmacy across state lines.

The expansion of easy access to abortion pills has been aggressively promoted by the Biden administration, endorsing pills-by-mail deliveries to avoid state bans, and the Justice Department issued a legal opinion that federal law allows the US Postal Service to deliver abortion drugs.

“The most important issue of the 2020 election, which nobody talked about. Massive FDA deregulation of pill abortion continues, and will radically transform (for the *much* worse) abortion provision in America,” tweeted John Gerardi, CEO of Fresno’s Right to Life CA, in response to the FDA’s decision. “Pro-lifers *must* promote fed abortion limits.”

California wasted no time in rushing to jump on the new ease of delivery for abortion pills, while CVS and Walgreen’s both issued statements that they were reviewing the FDA’s ruling.
