Biden Says He Respects Gun Owners, Wants to Confiscate Their Guns

'They immediately demagogue and say the solution is to take away your weapons, to disarm law-abiding citizens... '

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) Continuing his litany of lies, distortions and gross politicization of multiple mass shooting tragedies, President Joe Biden on Thursday gave a rare national address to assure citizens that gun control isn’t about taking away rights.

The nation could likely discern this to be another White House whopper, largely because Biden spent most of the speech explaining how he and his leftist gun-grabbers in Congress want to strip law-abiding citizens of their fundamental rights.

“This isn’t about taking away guns or vilifying gun owners,” Biden said, qualifying that the 2nd Amendment is “not absolute.”

Biden, often deploying the raspy, strained voice he uses to convey empathy where there is none except for political gain, called for banning semi-automatic long guns, one of the more popular weapons in America, and banning what he called “high-capacity magazines.”

But he doesn’t want to take anybody’s guns or shred anyone’s rights.

“Tonight, live on television, Joe Biden informed us that the Constitution is not real,” clarified Fox News’ Tucker Carlson.

Biden also on Thursday declared he wanted new “red flag laws” that would essentially abolish due process, and made clear his intent to drive gun manufacturers out of business.

“We need to ban assault weapons and high capacity magazines,” Biden said. “And if we can’t ban assault weapons, then we should raise the age to purchase them from 18 to 21, strengthen the background checks.”

Outside the debatable constitutionality of such an edict, it would have done virtually nothing to stop the spate of recent mass shootings, largely carried out by adults older than 18.

“This speech tonight, once again he chose to double-down on hard-Left, divisive politics,” said Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas.

Biden’s performance was more of the same, Cruz said, referencing the presidential response to the Uvalde massacre.

“And what does Joe Biden and the Democrats do? They don’t come back and say, ‘Let’s unite behind law enforcement to stop criminals, to keep our kids safe,’” Cruz said.

“Nope. They immediately demagogue and say the solution is to take away your weapons, to disarm law-abiding citizens.”

Biden tried his best Thursday to paint a different picture for the public, but his brushstrokes were blurred with the blusterer-in-chief’s trademarked homespun hokum.

”I respect the culture, the tradition and concerns of lawful gun owners,” Biden promised. This isn’t about taking away anyone’s rights. It’s about protecting children.”

Biden called his proposals “rational, commonsense measures,” a claim the National Rifle Association disputed.

“Instead of acting on functional measures and real solutions that when implemented will reduce crime and will help those with dangerous behavioral health issues, all that the President repeatedly proposes will only infringe on the rights of those law-abiding who have never, and will never, commit a crime,” the NRA wrote in a response to Biden’s address.

“This isn’t a real solution, it isn’t true leadership, and it isn’t what America needs.”
