Rep. Bishop Schools Dems on Gun Grab Violating the Constitution

'Spare me the bullsh** about constitutional rights... '

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) The Democrat-stacked House Judiciary Committee on Thursday approved the rad-left’s latest assault on the Constitution, approving the “Protecting Our Kids Act,” a package of gun control legislation that will do nothing to protect kids and plenty to violate the rights of law-abiding citizens.

The package, which will be forwarded to the full House for a final vote, includes a measure that would raise the legal age to buy semiautomatic rifles from 18 to 21 years old.

That poses a particular problem, despite protests from Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I., who claimed “that the Constitution doesn’t prohibit” anything in the proposed legislation. And he wasn’t alone promoting the lie.

“You’re confusing people by saying that somehow any form of gun safety regulation violates the Second Amendment,” said Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md.

“That’s nonsense. That’s bull. That’s ridiculous.”

Rep. Dan Bishop, R-N.C., proved otherwise, in epic fashion, noting that the House briefing provided by Democrats cited two court cases covering the proposal to raise the legal age for ownership of certain guns.

“So I decided to read them,” Bishop said of the cited cases.

One from the 9th Circuit, perhaps the most liberal in the country, ruled just last month that “California’s ban on the sale of semi-automatic rifles to 18-21 year olds violates the Constitution,” Bishop said.

Another case, from the 4th Circuit, provided an analysis of a federal ban on the sales of handguns to 18- to 21-year-olds and reached the same conclusion — that it was unconstitutional.

“When we undertake to so something… isn’t it incumbent on the House Judiciary to consider, to evaluate what the Constitution allows Congress to do is consistent with the supreme law of the land?” Bishop asked.

The short answer was no, as House Democrats made it explicitly clear they wouldn’t allow anything so bothersome as the Constitution or the law to ruin their plans.

“You will not stop us from advancing the Protecting Our Kids Act today,” vowed Rep. Mondaire Jones, D-N.Y.

“If the filibuster obstructs us, we will abolish it. If the Supreme Court objects, we will expand. We will not rest until we have taken weapons of war out of circulation in our communities.”

Cicilline put it more bluntly.

“Spare me the bullshit about constitutional rights,” he said.

Bishop wasn’t ready to step aside and let radical leftists trample those constitutional rights.

“There’s a willingness to just ram through this package  and the answer is — we don’t have any patience for you if you’re objecting,” Bishop said.

“And the voices are raised, the accusations are made, Republicans are complicit.

“Let me be clear. You are not going to bully your way into stripping Americans of fundamental rights.”

Which isn’t to say Democrats intend to stop their efforts. Other measures approved in the gun-grab legislation would bar large-capacity magazines and establish requirements regulating storage of guns on residential premises.

“What this bill does is it tells law-abiding citizens when you can get a gun, what kind of gun you can get, what accessories you can get for your gun and where and how you have to store it in your own darn home,” said Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla.

“That’s what this bill does. This is an assault,” he said.

“This is just the beginning. Their goal, plain and simple, is to get rid of the Second Amendment.”
