President Joe Biden signed an executive order this week creating a Gender Policy Council, which will focus on ways to promote “gender equity” both domestically and in the rest of the world.
One of the first steps the council plans to discuss is adding gender options for government employees, said Jennifer Klein, the executive director of the council.
“The president and the vice president campaigned during the election on giving a third gender option on federal government IDs to individuals who want them. Does the president see value in signing an executive order to make that happen?” a White House reporter asked Klein during a press briefing this week.
Klein replied: “I haven’t looked yet to see whether that requires an executive order,” she said.
However, “I would note that we are very inclusive in our definition of ‘gender,’ and we intend to address all sorts of discrimination and fight for equal rights for people, whether that’s LGBTQ+ people, women, girls … men,” she continued. “So, that’s certainly something that we will look at.”
White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki added that the reporter’s question was “good” and promised the Biden administration would “look into it a little more.”
The Gender Policy Council also plans to focus on the “gender wage gap” and the equal representation of women in the workforce. And it will push a range of leftist policies and issues, including increasing economic security and improving access to healthcare.
