(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) In an interview with Just the News, Art Del Cuello, the vice president of the National Border Patrol Union, stated that border agents are rallying for the impeachment of embattled DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.
“It’s obviously the majority,” Del Cuello said when asked whether border officials would support the ousting of Mayorkas. “When you start talking about impeachment, the problem is this: that you’re going to end up with having who replaces him. At the end of the day, it’s the same policies that are going to be pushed down. But obviously, people need to be held accountable.”
Later in the interview, Del Cuello criticized Mayorkas for his constant lies regarding the border crisis and advised the secretary to at least claim that he is taking action to fix the issue. “That still would be a lie, but it wouldn’t be just a blatant lie,” Del Cuello added.
The union leader warned, however, that the American people have witnessed the self-inflicted chaos at the border.
“Not that it makes it any better, but I think that’s where the problem is in that. That’s where the issue is, not just for agents but for the American public is they realize how bad the border is. They’ve seen it. It happened on day one,” Del Cuello stated in the interview.
Del Cuello did not hold back in criticizing President Joe Biden’s disregard for the border crisis. He said, “It’s frustrating to have the president say everything is good, the press secretary saying everything is good. Politicians that are on the far-left saying everything is good, and definitely, someone with the leadership like Secretary Mayorkas to say everything is under control.”
Del Cuello’s scathing remarks followed the formal announcement of a five-phase probe into Mayorkas’s presumed “dereliction of duty” by the Republican-led House Homeland Security Committee.
“Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has been willfully derelict in his duties as Secretary of Homeland Security,” said Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, R-Tenn. “He has disregarded his oath to the Constitution by ignoring the basic tenets of that Constitution.”
While several Republican members of Congress, including Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Georgia, and Clay Higgins, R-La., have introduced their own impeachment bills, the official proceedings would be processed by the House Judiciary Committee, led by Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio.
On the other hand, Mayorkas has dismissed the impeachment threats, telling CNN in May that he was more concerned about the threats of climate change instead.
