(Headline USA) Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., raked in $8.1 million for his Senate bid during the second quarter of fundraising despite being censored by the House for his role in the Russia-Gate hoax.
Schiff, who is running for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s, D-Calif., Senate seat, which is set to open in 2024, was condemned by his colleagues last month for “misleading the American public and for conduct unbecoming of an elected member of the House of Representatives.” The vote was 213-209.
“As chair of the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff launched an all out political campaign built on baseless distortions against a sitting U.S. president at the expense of every single citizen in this country and the honor of the House of Representatives,” said Rep. Anna Paulina Luna, R-Fla., who introduced the censor resolution, said.
However, it seems the censor motivated Democrats to contribute to Schiff’s campaign. Politico reported on Wednesday that Schiff’s campaign recruited more than 144,000 unique donors in the second quarter, as well as 233,000 donations from all 50 states and 58 California counties.
The average donation was $34, with 98% of the contributions coming in under $200.
Schiff was quick to use the House’s censor as a fundraising tool, claiming he was being attacked by the GOP for standing up to former President Donald Trump.
“This is a badge of honor,” he said in a statement after the vote. “They go after people that are effective. I expose the corruption of the former president. I led the first impeachment trial of the former president to the first bipartisan vote to remove a president.”
Immediately after the House held its vote, congressional Democrats rallied around Schiff, chanting “Adam! Adam! Adam!”
Schiff’s biggest primary opponent in the race, Rep. Katie Porter, D-Calif., had a successful first quarter, bringing in $4.5 million.
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., endorsed Schiff over Porter for the California Senate seat earlier this year.
