Washington state will now allow children 13 and older to get gender “reassignment” surgery without parental consent, 770KTTH reported.
States have traditionally not allowed the surgery at all, but even in our more progressive time they have still required parental consent for minors to receive the radically life-altering surgery.
SB 5889, the bill pushed by Washington Democrats, forces insurers to cover gender dysmorphia treatment for minors. It also forces insurers to cover “gender-affirming care” for minors, without parental consent.
According to the law, all communication regarding such “care” and medical procedures must be directly with the patient, thus bypassing parents.
Democrats in Washington state proudly denounced the bill’s detractors as hateful bigots.
The bill’s sponsor, Democratic State Senator Marko Liias, argued that other states that banned minors from getting gender reassignment surgeries are “transphobic.”
He also emphasized his joy at beholding the victory of tolerance over mass trans-hysteria.
“I am proud that our state is sort of standing up to this hysteria sweeping the country of intolerance and hatred of trans people,” Liias said. “We are going the opposite direction saying that, here, people are welcome and we support them.”
Liias also suggested that no child should ever be denied medical care that they wish to receive for any reason.
“There is not a short or simple answer on what care is appropriate for which individuals,” he said. “In short, I support the ability of all trans people to access medically necessary care.”
But many on the right pushed back against the bad news coming out of Washington.
Outrageous. Parents must stand up and push back. On any issue, we cannot cede control of minor children to the govt. This is simply another effort to interfere and wrest away from parents control of their own children. It has to be stopped. https://t.co/iv24yhVBvq
