Va. Mom of Boy Who Shot Teacher to Cite Hunter’s Sweetheart Deal in Leniency Appeal

'The disparity is a bit hard to comprehend — let alone swallow...'

(Headline USA) A lawyer for a Virginia mother facing prison time for the falsification of gun records said he will cite the Justice Department’s sweetheart plea deal for Hunter Biden as a reason to reduce her potential sentence.

Deja Taylor, 25, pleaded guilty to lying about her marijuana use when she applied for a gun purchase. Her 6-year-old son then used her purchased firearm on Jan. 6 to shoot his elementary school teacher.

Taylor faces up to 18 to 24 months in prison and has been charged with the same felony as Hunter Biden. Except, in its plea deal that was revealed this week, the Justice Department agreed to drop this charge against Biden entirely.

Taylor’s lawyer, Eugene Rossi, said he plans to cite the DOJ’s “inconsistency” in its application of the law.

“In our sentencing memo, we will surely raise the inconsistency in the government’s approach to a vulnerable and scared very young mother, who does not have a privileged background and connections,” defense attorney Eugene Rossi told the Washington Times.

As of right now, Hunter Biden is facing only two years of probation. As part of the sweetheart deal, the president’s 53-year-old son will plead guilty to misdemeanor counts of willful failure to pay federal income tax in 2017 and 2018, and enter a pre-trial diversion on a felony gun possession charge, meaning the gun charge could be dropped altogether if he meets certain requirements.

The felony gun-possession charge alone normally carries a minimum five-year prison sentence, according to former U.S. attorney Brett Tolman.

“Why does the prodigal son of a president get diversion on the same gun charge — along with the sweetheart deal on the tax crimes?” Rossi said. “The disparity is a bit hard to comprehend—let alone swallow.”

Former President Donald Trump, who has also been the victim of the DOJ’s double standards, likewise pointed to the plea deal as additional evidence that the justice system is rigged and “broken.”

“Wow! The corrupt Biden DOJ just cleared up hundreds of years of criminal liability by giving Hunter Biden a mere ‘traffic ticket.’ Our system is BROKEN!” he wrote on Truth Social.
