Tucker Carlson Promises Public Release of J6 Video Footage Obtained from Speaker McCarthy

'[T]here was never any legitimate reason for this footage to remain secret...'

(Dmytro “Henry” AleksandrovHeadline USA) Tucker Carlson reportedly received more than 40,000 hours of surveillance footage from Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill rally from House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Carlson’s producers were on Capitol Hill last week, digging through the 41,000 hours of footage captured that day, according to the Post Millennial. Excerpts of the footage will begin airing on the show in the coming weeks.

“[T]here was never any legitimate reason for this footage to remain secret,” Carlson said.

“If there was ever a question that’s in the public’s interest to know, it’s what actually happened on January 6. By definition, this video will reveal it. It’s impossible for me to understand why any honest person would be bothered by that.”

The process began in early February, according to a communication between people at Carlson’s show and a McCarthy representative.

However, some conservative activists stated that McCarthy’s decision to send the footage to Carlson is an indication that he doesn’t want to release the full unreleased security footage to the public, as he promised in January, according to Valiant News.

“I want to be very thoughtful about it, but yes,” McCarthy said back then.

“I think the public should see what happened on that day. I watched what [then-House Speaker] Nancy Pelosi did when she politicized it. For the first time in history as a speaker, not allowing the minority to appoint to a committee,” he told reporters. “We watched the politicization of this. I think the American public should actually see what happened instead of a report that’s written on a political basis.”

In August 2022, a group of House Republicans demanded that the US Capitol Police release all footage from Jan. 6 to allow for fair trials in the cases of the over 700 people arrested in connection to that day, the Post Millennial reported.

Twenty-three lawmakers wrote a letter that was sent to Capitol Police Board Chairman William J. Walker that the release of the footage “is absolutely essential to proper governance and truth.”

“The fact that these tapes have not been released, I think, is just a huge blot on the Department of Justice,” Louie Gohmert said. “It’s just outrageous to the American justice system that they’re not being required to make the videos available.”

On Monday afternoon, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., also revealed that McCarthy — her ally — gave Carlson exclusive access to the footage, and that it would be made “available for all J6 defendants.”
