Trump Wins Local Election in Oregon after Being Written In by Voters

'It just shows the persnicketiness that we go through when people are doing write-ins... '

(Corine GattiHeadline USAFormer President Donald Trump defeated four other candidates to win a seat on the board of Hubbard Rural Fire Protection District in western Oregon — a race he never filed for and presumably won’t be taking office anytime soon.

The Gateway Pundit reported Trump and four other candidates ended up with two write-in votes each, causing a tie for the position. The County Clerk’s Office performed the dice roll to break the stalemate on June 23, and the 2024 frontrunner for the Republican presidential election won.

“The next step would be to determine if either of the other two candidates who won the dice roll are interested,” Hubbard Fire Chief Michael Kahrmann told the Salem Statesman Journal.

The article from the Salem Statesman Journal further explained that “on the first roll, the stand-ins for Sherwood, Smith and Trump each rolled 10. In the second round, Trump’s stand-in rolled a 12.”

The recent off-year election saw a lack of participation, both from voters and potential candidates, the newspaper noted. Special district positions, like this one, do not come with a salary and the situation was similar to recruiting volunteer firefighters, where attracting candidates can be a challenge.

Additionally, it’s far-fetched that Trump would take the unpaid job in the small rural town. Also, a candidate must own property and live in the district and there was no record of a Trump living in the area.

“It just shows the persnicketiness that we go through when people are doing write-ins,” Marion County Clerk Bill Burgess explained.

If neither of the other candidates accepts the position, someone will have to be appointed.

While the Oregon town was figuring out who will sit on the board, a recent survey from Harvard CAPS-Harris Poll was published about Trump’s hypothetical matchup for the 2024 presidential race.

Trump was leading President Biden by six points and showed that 45% of respondents would vote for Trump if the election were held today, while 39% would support Biden.
