Dr. Anthony Fauci warned parents on Sunday not to allow their children to play together without wearing masks, despite recent studies that confirm children rarely spread the coronavirus.
“The children can clearly wind up getting infected,” Fauci, who is now serving as President Joe Biden’s chief medical adviser, told CBS News.
While parents who receive the coronavirus vaccine and develop immunity to the virus can gather together without masks now, children should still wear them all the time, Fauci continued.
“When the children go out into the community, you want them to continue to wear masks when they’re interacting with groups or multiple households,” he said.
When asked if children could return to the playgrounds or camps this summer, Fauci said it is “conceivable that will be possible.”
“We now have 3 to 3.5 million vaccinations each day. If we keep up with that pace, invariably, that’s going to drive the rate and the level of infections per day to a much, much lower level,” Fauci said, adding that lower infection rates give us a “good degree of flexibility during the summer … with things like camps.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention published a study earlier this year arguing children ages 5-17 are much less likely to spread the virus, and when they do, they experience a higher degree of asymptomatic infection and are less likely to experience severe illness.
Critics pointed out that Fauci’s advice goes against what the science says:
Really, now he’s just trolling us. This is beyond parody. https://t.co/nR7nr2WVz9

Dr. Fauci should have lost his license the second child suicide numbers spiked after following his guidance. Dude is just a straight up sociopath at this point. https://t.co/4adb6XdOyC
