(Headline USA) Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Wisc., accused special counsel John Durham of withholding critical information about his investigation into the origins of the Russia Hoax from lawmakers.
Johnson said that while Durham’s investigation has resulted in at least one necessary prosecution, he has also blocked multiple requests from Senate Republicans looking for information about the hoax and Democrats’ role in it.
“We were denied access to the information during the John Durham probe, so there is a real problem with the special counsel,” he explained.
The Wisconsin Republican cited Durham’s hesitation to work with lawmakers as the reason why he doesn’t think a federally-appointed special counsel is the best way to investigate Hunter Biden’s foreign business deals.
“The only problem [with] the special counsel appointed by Merrick Garland is I won’t have any faith in him,” Johnson said.
Johnson and Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, have been leading the charge on Republicans’ investigation into Hunter Biden ever since it was reported that Hunter Biden’s taxes and business dealings are the subject of a federal probe.
The two Republicans released documents last week proving that Hunter Biden received multiple payments from foreign officials in Ukraine and China. One of the payments came from a Chinese company called CEFC, which is directly tied to the Chinese Communist Party.
“There is no middle man in this transaction,” Grassley said. “This is one hundred thousand dollars from what is effectively an arm of the communist Chinese government direct to Hunter Biden.”
The investigation into Hunter Biden has also raised important questions about whether President Joe Biden was involved in his son’s business transactions. He has denied knowing anything about Hunter Biden’s dealings, but emails obtained from Hunter Biden’s abandoned laptop suggest otherwise.
One email, in particular, references giving “the big guy,” who a former business associate of Hunter Biden’s identified as Joe Biden, a 10% cut of a foreign transaction. This email was brought up by the grand jury investigating Hunter Biden last week.
