Roe Decision Could Impact Transgender Abortions

'There's a level of violence that comes from forcing people to be pregnant... '

(Tony Sifert, Headline USA) Transgender rights activists are worried that Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito’s leaked majority opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization will prevent “transgender men” from killing their babies with abortions, according to taxpayer-funded National Public Radio.

NPR spoke to Alexis Rangel, a “queer trans Latina” who serves as policy counsel at the National Center for Transgender Equality, which is located in D.C.

“Abortion rights and reproductive rights in this decision are about trans rights,” Rangel told NPR.

Rangel seemed particularly frustrated that Alito discussed only a “woman’s right to have an abortion,” and not the rights of “people who menstruate” simply.

“We have to recognize that this decision will impact trans folks,” she continued.

“Particularly trans men and nonbinary folks who need access to reproductive healthcare and abortion specifically.”

According to NPR, Rangel participated in a midnight protest at the U.S. Supreme Court and has committed to keeping up “the momentum.”

Also present at the protest was one D. Ojeda, senior national organizer at the NCTE.

“The same tactics that we’re seeing on the attacks of abortion care, are the same tactics we’re seeing with gender-affirming care, and access to gender-affirming care,” Ojeda told NPR.

“The attacks are on our health care providers, and then our vital body autonomy.”

Ojeda felt compelled to point out that the overturning of Roe v. Wade would be harder on transgender “folk” than on women.

“There’s a level of violence that comes from forcing people to be pregnant,” she said. “There’s another layer when you’re trans, you know, issues of gender dysphoria.”

Led by President Joe Biden, the Left has taken to attacking Alito’s opinion as a “privacy rights nightmare,” Politico reported.

“Look, the idea that . . . a woman does not have a right to choose,” Biden said during a Q&A with reporters.

“But even more equally as profound is the rationale used [which] would mean that every other decision relating to the notion of privacy is thrown into question.”
