More voters blame President Joe Biden for the ongoing crisis at the southern border than former president Donald Trump, despite the Biden administration’s efforts to tie the crisis to Trump.
Forty-four percent of registered voters said in a recent poll that Biden bears responsibility for the migrant surge at the border, while only 28% said Trump is responsible. Another 20% said both administrations are equally responsible, and 7% said neither is responsible.
Even leftists in the mainstream media have had to admit Biden’s failure to handle the surge in illegal immigration created a humanitarian crisis.
“The Biden administration has promised its executive branch would be committed to transparency and accountability,” CNN’s Pamela Brown said last month. “But when it comes to the historic surge of migrants we are seeing at the Southern border, Biden has come up short on that promise.”
CNN’s Abby Phillip agreed: “The idea that they were a) prepared and b) that things are going well on the border seems disconnected from reality.”
Elected Democrats have also called out Biden for failing to adequately address the crisis.
Prior to administration officials granting media access to overcrowded detention facilities where thousands of unaccompanied minors are being exposed to the deadly coronavirus, Rep. Henry Cuellar, D-Texas, leaked pictures to Axios.
“I called my White House contact and I said: ‘I want you all to look at what’s happening on the ground,” Cuellar said. “I’m talking to the men and women on the ground. I’m talking to NGO’s and numbers are increasing. You have to pay attention to this.’ And I tried several times and here we are.”
The Democratic mayor of Del Rio, Texas, Bruno Lazano, also blamed Biden for refusing to take responsibility.
“It is the Biden border crisis in my opinion because there’s no plan of action,” he said. “It’s just kind of absurd what’s happening.”
