(Headline USA) President Joe Biden is losing support even in deep blue California, according to a recent poll.
For the first time since he has assumed office, a majority of California voters disapprove of Biden’s job performance, the poll by the University of California, Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies found. About 52% of the state’s voters said they disapprove of Biden, with just 44% saying they approve.
The poll also found that Biden is losing support among key demographics, including Hispanic and black voters. Just 38% of Latino voters said they support Biden now, compared to 66% in 2020. And 60% of black voters say they support Biden now, compared to 74% in 2020.
Likewise, just 43% of California voters under 50 say they would vote for Biden again. California voters represent a demographic that turned out heavily for Biden in 2020.
The poor numbers will likely exacerbate concerns among Democratic establishment-types about whether Biden should continue his reelection bid. Already, several high-profile figures have suggested Biden should drop out, citing concerns about his age and his low favorability ratings.
“Only @JoeBiden can make this decision. If he continues to run, he will be the nominee of the Democratic Party. What he needs to decide is whether that is wise; whether it’s in HIS best interest or the country’s?” former Obama adviser David Axelrod said this week.
Douglas Schoen, a former Clinton adviser, agreed and said the polls show “a serious warning sign that the president is in deep political trouble.”
Even Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., went on CNN on Sunday to say he was “concerned” about the latest data.
“These presidential races over the last couple of terms have been very tight,” Blumenthal said.
“No one is going to have a runaway election here,” he continued. “It’s going to take a lot of hard work, concentration, resources.”
