Conservative ESPN Anchor Quits to ‘Exercise My Free-Speech Rights’

(Robert Jonathan, Headline USA) ESPN anchor Sage Steele announced Tuesday that she is making a career change after reaching a settlement in her lawsuit against the sports network and its parent company, Disney.

In what she labeled as a life update, Steele, 50, explained the following on X (formerly known as Twitter).

“Having successfully settled my case with ESPN/Disney, I have decided to leave so I can exercise my First Amendment rights more freely. I am grateful for so many wonderful experiences over the past 16 years and am excited for my next chapter!”

In a statement, ESPN confirmed that “ESPN and Sage Steele have mutually agreed to part ways. We thank her for her many contributions over the years.”

Steele continued to co-host SportsCenter while her lawsuit against ESPN was pending. Steele sued ESPN in April 2022 for allegedly violating her free-speech rights after she publicly spoke against Disney’s COVID-19 employee vaccine mandate.

The broadcaster—one of the very few ESPN personalities who seldom went along with the far-left, social justice narrative that has politicized the channel—had previously turned down a $500,000 settlement offer.

Out-of-court settlements of this nature are usually kept confidential, unless the details leak out or are otherwise revealed. The terms often include a non-disparagement binder, so it remains to been seen as to the degree to which Steele can indeed talk openly about the ESPN drama.

Steele, who reluctantly complied with the corporate jab edict, allegedly was suspended from her job after telling former NFL QB Jay Cutler on his podcast that the policy, rather than allowing people to make their own individual healthcare decisions, was “scary” and “sick.”

During the same interview, Steele—who is biracial—made some controversial remarks about how Barack Obama identifies himself, which apparently also displeased corporate execs.

The case, in which she accused ESPN other transgressions including breach of contract, was scheduled for trial in March 2024.

Steele may have had the upper hand in the litigation because a law on the books in Connecticut, the home of ESPN headquarters and where the case was filed, protects employees from any workplace disciplinary action for exercising their free-speech rights under the U.S. or state constitution.

ESPN’s internal political spats have been simmering within the company for years.

Back in 2016, ESPN’s public editor (a position later abolished) diplomatically wrote: “Internally, there’s a feeling among many staffers—both liberal and conservative—that the company’s perceived move leftward has had a stifling effect on discourse inside the company and has affected its public-facing products. Consumers have sensed that same leftward movement, alienating some.”

The-then editor, Jim Brady, quoted an unnamed conservative employee who said, “If you’re a Republican or conservative, you feel the need to talk in whispers.”

Parenthetically, even despite her liberal bona fides, NBA specialist Rachel Nichols—another 16-year employee—found herself sidelined, which ultimately culminated in a January 2022 exit agreement, after getting caught on a hot mic complaining about the company’s diversity protocols.

Workers at SF’s Pelosi Federal Building Urged to Go Remote amid Crime Wave

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Federal workers based in San Francisco received orders to work from home for the foreseeable future due to incidents near their office building.

Hundreds of employees in the Department of Health and Human Services who previously worked in the Speaker Nancy Pelosi Federal Building took the directive to work remotely if possible, according to the Daily Wire.

“In light of the conditions at the [federal building] we recommend employees … maximize the use of telework for the foreseeable future,” Cheryl Campbell, HHS assistant secretary for administration, wrote in a memo to employees.

“This recommendation should be extended to all Region IX employees, including those not currently utilizing telework flexibilities,” she added.

“Region IX employees” include HHS workers in California, Arizona and Nevada.

The building hosted several federal agencies, including HHS, the Labor Department, the Transportation Department and an office for Rep. Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., herself.

Outside of the building, drug dealers did gangbusters business. Addicts use the building’s concrete benches to partake in their newly purchased wares.

Several violent crimes and open drug deals took place in the building’s immediate vicinity, including a drug deal linked to a previous shooting, according to a statement from the regional District Attorney’s Office.

Over the past few years, since leftists have embraced radical social justice policies in lieu of law and order, murders in the city rose 20%; robberies and car thefts rose 14% and 13%, respectively.

Homelessness and drug abuse were also persistent problems, despite deaths from drug overdoses falling from their record highs in 2020.

In 2022, 620 fatal drug overdoses were reported.

An estimated 38,000 people within the city are homeless, up 35% since 2019.

Pelosi’s office recently made a statement concerning the safety of those working in the office building.

“Federal, state and local law enforcement—in coordination with public health officials and stakeholders—are working hard to address the acute crises of fentanyl trafficking and related violence in certain areas of the city,” the Pelosi spokesman said.

Rep. Kevin Kiley, R-Calif., reacted to the memo in a tweet.

“If California offers a preview of where our country is headed, San Francisco offers an even starker warning,” Kiley said. “This is where failed policies, radical politics, and public corruption are in their most advanced stage—and where residents are most rapidly fleeing.”

Hochul Humiliated as Biden Admin Rejects Bid to Move Illegals to Military Site

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) The Biden administration blocked the approval of a proposed military site in New York City to accommodate illegal immigrants, despite Gov. Kathy Hochul’s personal pitch, the New York Post reported.

With New York City Mayor Eric Adams having recently announced that the Big Apple had hit its limit on immigration from the southern border, Hochul and company hoped to house the still burgeoning number of illegals at a 1,000-acre former military site, Floyd Bennett Airfield.

But the Biden administration’s refusal to sign off on the NYC military site for migrants has left Hochul in a delicate situation.

“Getting the federal government to change its position and tell an agency, the Department of the Interior, that they now have to accept migrants has been a complicated journey,” she told reporters after celebrating Manhattan’s Dominican Day Parade.

According to the governor, the feds did not absolutely disapprove, but rather demanded a more thorough plan.

“Today was a call to talk about logistics, any kind of legal barriers, any other obstacles,” she claimed.

“But I did not take away from that a hard ‘no,’” she continued. “So I think it’s just gonna be an evolving process.”

The city has looked into other options for housing illegals—including the Staten Island-based Fort Wadsworth, which city, state and federal officials toured last week.

The city, however, already has four immigration housing centers, one of which holds up to 2,000 people. According to Hochul’s office, the shelters cost the city $20 million every month.

The crisis, caused by President Joe Biden’s open-border policies, has been of particular concern for Adams, who previously suggested housing homeless illegal immigrants in “spare rooms” and drew backlash for shipping them out of New York City to its neighboring suburbs.

Chicago Group Begs Gangs to Impose Curfew on Shooting People

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) An activist group in Chicago’s Rogers Park neighborhood requested local gangs put time constraints on shootings so citizens do not have to live in fear as they go about their daily lives.

Native Sons proposed what they called “The People’s Ordinance,” pleading with gangs to hold daily cease fires from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., according to Breitbart.

“Under this ordinance, we ask that people stop associating with and glorifying ‘shooters,’ stop glorifying ‘switches,’ and stop wearing those ski masks everywhere which perpetuates you as some ‘opp,'” said Native Sons co-founder Tatiana Atkins. “When those who live a certain lifestyle try to hang with ‘regular’ class citizens, they put everyone at risk.”

Atkins expressed the desperation of the situation, begging gang members to hold their feuds until the evening and promised parents would have their kids inside as 9 p.m. approached.

“At the end of the day, 5-year-olds are being killed by gun violence, 14-year-olds are being killed by gun violence, 78-year-olds are being killed by gun violence, pregnant women are being killed by gun violence, young boys with bright futures are being killed by gun violence, fathers are being killed by gun violence, and this shouldn’t be happening,” she said.

According to its social media, Native Sons is a grassroots group that emerged as a positive and pro-active way for members of the black community to take matters affecting their neighborhoods, such as crime and drug abuse, into their own hands.

While the group uses Native American imagery, and mentions “indigenous” people and “holistic” healing in its literature, its eponymous name may be partially inspired from Richard Wright’s 1940 bestseller about a 20-year-old black man in Chicago’s South Side whose oppressive social circumstances result in him accidentally murdering the daughter of his white employer.

Chicago had 23 shootings take place last weekend, three of them resulting in death.

The city has seen over 370 deaths so far in 2023.

Violence in the city rose under the tenure of former Mayor Lori Lightfoot.

Current mayor Brandon Johnson has done little to help the desperate situation—allying himself with radical pro-crime groups such as Black Lives Matter and pushing to defund the city’s police.

As an alternative to traditional policing, Johnson said he hopes to implement mental-healthcare programming, violence-prevention programs and greater police accountability.

Another citizen group implemented a text-alert system in order to send out warnings concerning impending “teen takeovers,” like the massive riot that took place in April.

House to Investigate Biden’s ‘Corrupt Bargains’ in Border Contracts Worth Billions

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) House Republicans announced last week another investigation into the Biden administration after an official claimed he helped non-profit organizations make shady backroom deals with federal agencies to house migrants.

The official, Biden transition team member Andrew Lorenzen-Strait, also claimed the migrant crisis caused a “boom for business,” according to a video recorded by Project Veritas.

“The alarming allegations of Mr. [Andrew] Lorenzen-Strait’s corruption and his recently recorded statements only further justify the Homeland Security Committee’s continued oversight of ICE’s suspect contract procurement processes,” said House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Mark Green, R-Tenn, in reaction to the video.

“Awarding massive, sole-source contracts for illegal immigrant services to ill-equipped non-profits such as Endeavors, possibly because of connections to President Biden’s 2020 transition team, could prove to be an unacceptable abuse of taxpayer funds, and ICE must answer for these allegations.”

Lorenzen-Strait’s $87 million deal with Endeavors, an organization that housed immigrants at hotels instead of government-owned family residential centers, faced investigations from the Department of Homeland Security.

The Inspector General’s office discovered that the contract was unjustified and Endeavors took $17 million to line their own pockets.

Lorenzen-Strait was also busted for another attempted deal with Cherokee Federal, the government contracting arm of the Cherokee Nation. In the video, Lorenzen-Strait claimed he helped the Cherokee Nation “move into the migration or refugee space” in order to make money.

“[Lorenzen-Strait] further discussed ‘brokering’ a deal that won Cherokee Federal… a nearly $2 billion contract with the federal government to provide services to unaccompanied alien children,” said the investigators in a letter to ICE Director Patrick Lechleitner.

“Despite clear conflicts of interest and prior scrutiny, Mr. Lorenzen-Strait may be influencing ICE’s contracts for migrant services with non-governmental and non-profit organizations.”

This new investigation is one of many the committee has in progress, which is also performing a series of six hearings looking into DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’s job performance.

Judicial Coverup of J6 Continues, Judge Denies Motion to Disclose Undercover Feds in Crowd

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Lost in the wave of seemingly never-ending Trump indictments is the fact that the federal court in Washington DC continues to hamper efforts to disclose the identities of FBI informants and other undercover law enforcement who participated in the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol Hill protest-turned-riot.

The latest judicial roadblock to J6 transparency came Monday in an opinion from Obama-appointed District Judge James Boasberg, who denied J6 defendant Ryan Zink’s motion to have the Justice Department disclose “all undercover agents, Antifa activists and confidential human sources” that were within his “sphere of alleged conduct” on Jan. 6.

Zink argued in June that such disclosure was necessary for his defense.

“Mr. Zink is being prosecuted for serious crimes in part for trying to expose unknown vandals at the Capitol whom are not being prosecuted,” his motion said.

“As a matter of basic fairness, due process, and the right to confront accusers, Mr. Zink has a right to know and cross-examine the witnesses and actors he is accused of interacting with on January 6.”

Specifically, Zink—who faces charges of obstructing an official proceeding and trespassing on Captiol grounds—sought the identities of vandals that he claims to have stopped.

“Defendant Zink was present on the east side of the Capitol on January 6 as several mysterious individuals committed property destruction, including smashing of windows. Zink counseled against such property destruction and tried to prevent it,” his motion said.

“But mysterious unidentified vandals threatened Zink, and Zink was unable to prevent the mysterious perpetrators from damaging the building.”

In denying Zink’s motion, Judge Boasberg acknowledged that it would be important if Zink interacted with undercover informants in the J6 crowd. However, Zink didn’t provide any compelling evidence of this, the judge said.

“Zink’s motion simply requests the identification of any and all undercover Government agents who may have been present at the Capitol on January 6, regardless of whether these purported actors could have affected or did affect Zink’s conduct or state of mind,” the judge said.

“This request is far too broad.”

The judge did say he’d reconsider Zink’s motion if he narrows its scope. His decision comes in spite of recent information about the presence of undercover feds in the J6 crowd—including from former Capitol Police Chief Steven Sund.

Sund recently told conservative broadcaster Tucker Carlson there were “18 or 19 domestic terrorists coming to this event, so of course they’re going to have resources and they’re not going to just put in one agent. You’re going to have multiple [undercover agents].”

Additionally, the House Weaponization Subcommittee disclosed an FBI whistleblower’s claim in May that the bureau’s DC office tried to sequester information about potential J6 from other FBI offices.

The whistleblower, retired FBI agent George Hill, said the bureau’s Boston field office requested the J6 footage from DC. However, the DC field office denied this request, according to Hill.

“The [Washington field office] said, ‘We can’t show you those videos unless you can tell us the exact time and place those individuals were in the Capitol’, to which [Boston agent] responded back: ‘Why can’t you just give us access to the 11,000 hours of video?’”

According to Hill, the DC office then responded, “Because there may be undercover officers or confidential human sources on those videos, whose identity we’d need to protect.”

Additionally, during the Proud Boys sedition trial earlier this year, the Justice Department disclosed that at least 10 to 12 undercover DC Metropolitan Police Department officers also participated in Jan. 6.

A defense attorney from the same trial also alleged that there were 19 DHS informants in the J6 crowd. According to that attorney, “there are reasons to suspect the true number [of informants] is higher.”

Zink’s trial is set to begin Sept. 5.

Texas Sues to Recoup Millions in Fraudulent Medicaid Funds from Planned Parenthood

(Headline USA) Texas wants Planned Parenthood to give back millions of dollars in Medicaid reimbursements—and pay far more in fines on top of that—in a lawsuit that appears to be the first of its kind brought by a state against the largest abortion provider in the U.S.

But Planned Parenthood claims the attempt to recoup at least $17 million in Medicaid payments for health services, including cancer screenings, is a new effort to weaken the organization after years of Republican-led laws that stripped funding and imposed restrictions on how its clinics operate.

A hearing was set for Tuesday in front of U.S. District Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk, who earlier this year issued a ruling that invalidated approval of the abortion pill mifepristone.

At issue is money Planned Parenthood received for so-called health services before Texas removed the organization from the state’s Medicaid program in 2021. Texas had begun trying to oust Planned Parenthood four years earlier and is seeking repayment for services billed during that time.

“This baseless case is an active effort to shut down Planned Parenthood health centers,” said Alexis McGill Johnson, president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America.

Texas brought the lawsuit under the federal False Claims Act, which allows fines for every alleged improper payment. Planned Parenthood says that could result in a judgement in excess of $1 billion.

It is not clear when Kacsmaryk will rule.

The lawsuit was announced last year by Republican Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, who said it was “unthinkable that Planned Parenthood would continue to take advantage of funding knowing they were not entitled to keep it.”

Jacob Elberg, a former federal prosecutor who specialized in health care fraud, called the False Claims Act the government’s most powerful tool against health fraud. Cases involving the law in recent years have included a health records company in Florida and a Montana health clinic that submitted false asbestos claims.

Planned Parenthood has roughly three dozen health clinics in Texas. One has closed since the Supreme Court’s landmark Dobbs ruling last year, which allowed Texas to ban abortion.

Biden Torched for Insulting Maui Fire Victims w/ Shameless Cash Offer

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) Already reeling from intense backlash to his heartless reaction to the devastating and deadly wildfires in Maui, Hawaii, President Joe Biden rubbed salt into the wound with what was widely decried as an insulting monetary offer to survivors of the disaster.

Biden boasted on social media that his administration was “laser-focused on getting aid to survivors, including Critical Needs Assistance: a one-time $700 payment per household offering relief during an unimaginably difficult time.”

Critics were quick to note that the regime’s claim of “laser focus” with a $700 payoff was particularly outrageous as Biden was simultaneously doling out another $200 million to Ukraine.

“Billions in property damage, many lives lost, livelihoods ruined and the best the president can do is $700,” wrote an incredulous Collin Rugg. “Maui should just change their island name to Ukraine at this point.”

The gross funding disparity prompted Western Journal’s Bryan Chai to ask, “But how in the world can you justify $200 million to non-Americans and a fraction of that to devastated American households? How can Biden dare mention that ‘every asset we have will be available’ to the survivors of the Maui wildfires when that clearly and brazenly isn’t the case?”

The insult grew worse when the pittance being tossed to the tragedy’s survivors was compared to the total funding package of an additional $25 billion being chased for Ukraine, “or 500x the money that is being offered to Maui,” wrote The Dossier’s Jordan Schachtel.

“No, sadly, this is not a joke. The tweet came from the official White House account,” he wrote of Biden’s post on X, formerly Twitter.

“And that’s it for now, Jack! Zelensky and the gang need F-16s, after all. Enjoy your $700 stimmy while inflation is flying and gas is at $5 a gallon for regular on Maui. Hope it lasts more than a few days!”

That could prove a challenge, as Maui residents suffer along with the rest of the nation under Bidenomics. With inflation continuing its crippling pace and consumer prices soaring, “the typical American household spent $709 more in July than they did two years ago to buy the same goods and services, according to Moody’s Analytics,” CNN reported over the weekend.

Biden’s insurrectionist press secretary didn’t help matters when she declined to confirm if the president could even be bothered to visit the decimated Maui landscape, and managed to mangle the name of one Hawaii’s U.S. senators and misgendered the other.

Biden’s latest round of insults and show of contempt for Maui survivors followed his callous initial response, when he offered a curt “no comment” on the tragedy while enjoying yet another leisurely beach vacation.

Fulton DA Fani Willis Secures Sham RICO Indictment of Trump, 18 Others

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) In the wake of a scandalous leak of the proceedings of a Fulton County grand jury, it was confirmed late Monday night that District Attorney Fani Willis had secured an indictment against former President Donald Trump and 18 of his allies on 10 counts of allegedly attempting to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Georgia, which then potted-plant, basement-bound candidate Joe Biden had allegedly won.

Other defendants named in the indictment included former White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani, John Eastman and Sidney Powell, according to the Associated Press.

The defendants would be given until noon Aug. 25 to surrender and prosecutors plan to request a trial date within six month, said Willis, who launched her political career with a vow to indict Trump and has been fundraising for years off her witch hunt.

“I’m pissed,” Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, said as the fourth indictment of Trump loomed.

“Our country is over 200 years old. We have never once indicted a former president or a leading candidate for president. And this is Joe Biden and this is the Democrats weaponizing the justice system because they’re afraid of the voters,” Cruz told Fox News.

“This is disgraceful, it is wrong, and it is an abuse of power by angry democrats who have decided the rule of law doesn’t matter to them anymore.”

Comparing Willis to “Manhattan DA Alvin Bragg, Deranged Jack Smith, and New York AG Letitia James,” the Trump campaign charged that the Fulton County DA was “Ripping a page from Crooked Joe Biden’s playbook, Willis has strategically stalled her investigation to try and maximally interfere with the 2024 presidential race and damage the dominant Trump campaign.”

The message continued its own blistering indictment of Willis, writing that “Combined with the intentionally slow-walked investigations by the Biden-Smith goon squads and the false charges in New York, the timing of this latest coordinated strike by a biased prosecutor in an overwhelmingly Democrat jurisdiction not only betrays the trust of the American people, but also exposes true motivation driving their fabricated accusations,” the campaign’s statement admonished.

“They could have brought this two and half years ago, yet they chose to do this for election interference reasons in the middle of President Trump’s successful campaign.”

Harvard Law Professor Alan Dershowitz said the latest indictment presented a weak case and again exposed the politically-motivated intent behind the Trump indictments.

“First of all, nobody should take seriously that there was grand jury indictment. The fact that it was a grand jury indictment, it means nothing. It’s the prosecutor who indicted,” Dershowitz told Fox News, pointing out that the indictment leak was posted “before the grand jury even voted.”

Dershowitz shredded all four of the Trump indictments as incredibly weak cases that would likely be overturned on appeal. Regarding the Fulton County charges, Dershowitz said that “if you bring a RICO case, that increases your chances of winning a trial and losing on appeal,” which would unfold after the 2024 tilt.

The indictments were all “designed to get quick convictions in jurisdictions that are heavily loaded against Donald Trump,” he said. “And if you’re going after the man running for president against your person, you have to have the strongest case. Otherwise, it becomes a banana republic,” he added.

“I’m not a Republican, I’m not a Trump supporter, but I care deeply about the Constitution,” he said. “I care deeply about preserving the rule of law. And we’re seeing it being frittered away for partisan political purposes.”

Trump’s RICO Charges Leaked, Supporters Warn ‘Due Process’ Violated

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) A court website in Fulton County, Georgia, leaked a document pertaining to an imminent indictment from a far-left district attorney against former President Donald Trump and his reported efforts to demand a proper investigation of the ballots cast in the 2020 election.

The document, first reported by Reuters, listed 12 indictments, including one felony count for a violation of the state’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations law. In response to the leak, the Fulton County District Attorney’s office, led by embattled Fani Willis, released a statement to reporters claiming that no charges had been filed against Trump.

A spokesperson for the court in question also issued a statement, calling the leaked document “fictitious” and stating that the file does not “bear an official case number,” and thus should not be considered real.

Trump attorneys Drew Findling and Jennifer Little reacted to the leak with a scorching criticism. In a statement obtained by Headline USA, the attorneys wrote, “The Fulton County District Attorney’s Office has once again shown that they have no respect for the integrity of the grand jury process. This was not a simple administrative mistake.”

The statement further added, “This is emblematic of the pervasive and glaring constitutional violations which have plagued this case from its very inception.”

The situation further deteriorated and the mystery deepened when it was reported that the Fulton County grand jury had, in fact, “returned at least one indictment Monday, though it was not immediately clear against whom. Documents were presented around 9 p.m. by the county courts clerk to the Fulton County judge who for months has been presiding over the investigation,” the Associated Press reported, adding that the “grand jury heard from witnesses into the evening Monday.”

That would seemingly indicate that the DA’s heralding of its Trump indictment was posted while the grand jury was still actively in session.

“The Grand Jury testimony has not even FINISHED – but it’s clear the District Attorney has already decided how this case will end,” Trump wrote in a campaign email. “This is an absolute DISGRACE.”

Prominent conservative voices also quickly took to social media to blast what they deemed as a potential violation of Trump’s due process rights, given that a grand jury had not returned an indictment against Trump.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., reacted to the document, demanding a motion to dismiss the case. “This is OUTRAGEOUS government conduct and is a very legitimate basis to deem the entire Grand Jury process tainted & corrupted,” Gaetz said, before adding, “MOTION TO DISMISS!!!”

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., echoed Gaetz’s remarks, calling the alleged leak illegal. “This is completely against the law!!” Green stated. “The Fulton County DA Fani Willis MUST BE REMOVED!!!”

Sen. J.D. Vance, R-Ohio, chimed in to highlight the fact that Trump had not been indicted by a grand jury in the contentious investigation, questioning, “How is this not a due process violation?”

Political commentator Mike Cernovich also joined in the criticism, going as far as calling a potential RICO charge a “lynching” of the former president. “The Grand Jury is still meeting,” Cernovich declared. “The law isn’t being followed. This is state sponsored lynching.”

State prosecutors in Georgia have been investigating a phone call between Trump and Georgia officials, during which the former president sought to persuade the Republican leaders to properly investigate allegations of potential fraudulent paper ballots submitted in the 2020 presidential election.

Trump, who is now running for the Republican nomination for president in 2024, defended the call, referring to it as a “PERFECT” conversation.
