GOP: Why Did the ATF Leak Firearms Dealer Data to Anti-Gun Media?

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) GOP lawmakers want to know why the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives released a list of firearms dealers to the anti-gun media earlier this year, in violation of federal law.

The information leaked by the ATF was about its “Demand Letter 2 program,” which was created to identify firearms dealers that sell the most crime guns. About 2% of gun dealers nationwide are subject to this program. They’re required to participate if the ATF finds that they sold 25 or more firearms within a calendar year with a “time-to-crime” of three years or less.

The program is supposedly in place to aid law enforcement investigations, but the ATF leaked a list of dealers subject to the program as a “name-and-shame campaign,” according to critics.

“ATF’s release of protected trace data to Brady United and the media in clear violation of federal law enabled an entirely predictable ‘name-and-shame’ media campaign of misleading headlines smearing the reputation of law-abiding firearm retailers by suggesting they are engaged in illegal sales,” said Lawrence G. Keane, the general counsel for the National Shooting Sports Foundation.

“ATF knows these retailers are their allies and are on the front lines combatting the diversion of guns into the illegal black market. ATF’s unlawful release of this data to a gun control group damaged its relationship with the industry. It lends credence to the notion that the Biden administration is weaponizing the whole of government against our industry to score cheap political points.”

Rep. Jeff Duncan, R-S.C., and 31 other House Republicans sent a letter to ATF Director Steve Dettelbach about the matter Wednesday.

“Disclosing information from the National Trace Center for non-law enforcement related purposes can seriously damage the reputation of law-abiding firearms dealers since the information lacks the context of a trace. There are many reasons why a [dealer] may have a higher number of traces. For instance, the [dealer] or customer is a victim of burglary, or the [dealer] has a high volume of sales which will inherently make it more likely to have sold firearms show up in traces.”

The lawmakers asked ATF Director Dettelbach to acknowledge that the disclosure of the gun dealers data was illegal, and to explain what he’s doing to rectify the situation. Dettelbach has 60 days from Wednesday to respond.

Inflation Blame Game: Corporate Greed Edition

(Mike Maharrey, Money Metals News Service) If you listen to mainstream punditry and government spinmeisters, you’ll hear all kinds of reasons for inflation.

It was supply chain issues! It’s because Putin invaded Ukraine! It’s Trump’s fault!

Recently, the “corporate greed is causing inflation” mantra has come back into vogue.

A meme circulating on social media highlights “record corporate profits.” It then proclaims, “Corporate profits are driving inflation.”

This raises a question: why did corporations suddenly get greedy? What kept them from being greedy before? Where was all that corporate greed when the Federal Reserve spent about a decade fretting about inflation running “too low?”

Think about it; if the corporate greed theory held any water, we’d have constant hyperinflation.

So, maybe something else is going on here.

Of course, the corporate greed explanation sounds good. It appeals to people’s general disdain for corporate America. But it’s a dangerous theory that obscures the real source of price inflation.

Government.

Economist Milton Friedman hit the nail on the head.

“Inflation is always and everywhere a monetary phenomenon.”

There’s something you will never hear on CNBC or from a White House spokesperson.

A big part of the problem is that the powers that be have managed to redefine inflation so it obscures the government’s culpability.

When government officials and pundits on TV talk about “inflation,” they almost always mean price inflation — rising prices. This is what the CPI attempts to measure. When you hear Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell or some other government official talk about inflation they’re simply saying prices are going up (more than 2 percent per year).

But historically, inflation didn’t mean “rising prices.” Inflation was defined more precisely as an increase in the amount of money and credit in the economy, or more succinctly, an expansion in the money supply.

Rising prices are one of the symptoms of monetary inflation. If you have more dollars chasing the same amount of goods and services, you will see a general rise in prices. Monetary inflation causes price inflation. They are two different things.

Do you see the sleight of hand?

Over the years, government officials, along with their apologists in the mainstream financial media and academia, intentionally shifted the definition of inflation to suit government purposes. The standard definition of inflation you hear during White House press conferences or a CNBC roundtable is basically just government propaganda that keeps you from realizing that it’s all the government and central bank’s fault.

Economist Ludwig von Mises explained it this way.

People today use the term `inflation’ to refer to the phenomenon that is an inevitable consequence of inflation, that is the tendency of all prices and wage rates to rise.

The result of this deplorable confusion is that there is no term left to signify the cause of this rise in prices and wages. There is no longer any word available to signify the phenomenon that has been, up to now, called inflation… As you cannot talk about something that has no name, you cannot fight it.

Those who pretend to fight inflation are in fact only fighting what is the inevitable consequence of inflation, rising prices. Their ventures are doomed to failure because they do not attack the root of the evil. They try to keep prices low while firmly committed to a policy of increasing the quantity of money that must necessarily make them soar.

As long as this terminological confusion is not entirely wiped out, there cannot be any question of stopping inflation.

Since most people think inflation just means prices are going up, they believe all kinds of things cause it, from corporate greed to Putin’s price hikes.

This lets the real culprit off the hook.

Stop and think about it for a moment. If price inflation is caused by an expansion of the money supply – who expands the money supply?

It’s not the CEO of Walmart or the president of Exxon-Mobil.

It’s the Federal Reserve.

The government has a role as well. Borrowing and spending also drive price inflation. So yes, Bidenomics with its massive budget deficits has a role in all this. (And so did Donald Trump’s deficit spending.)

The federal government takes the newly created money and hands it out. We saw this dynamic at its extreme during the pandemic when governments shut down the economy. That contracted the supply of goods and services. In the meantime, the Fed printed money nearly $5 trillion and the federal government passed a lot of it out in the form of stimulus. You had more dollars chasing fewer goods and services. The inflation we’re experiencing today was entirely predictable.

The truth is the federal government needs inflation. It depends on Federal Reserve money printing to support its borrow and spend budgeting strategy. Without the Fed’s inflationary activity, the government couldn’t finance its out-of-control spending habit. But politicians and their lackeys in the media don’t want you to know that they are levying an inflation tax, so they perpetuate all kinds of myths about inflation to try to make you feel better about it.

The average person is particularly susceptible to the greedy corporation myth because of the general distrust of big corporations.

The irony is corporate profits don’t drive inflation. Inflation pumps up corporate profits. Remember, monetary inflation produces a general rise in prices. The price of everything goes up, not just consumer prices. Real estate prices go up. Stock prices go up. And corporate profits go up in dollar terms. But when adjusted for the effect of price inflation, corporate profits aren’t nearly as robust as they seem. It’s kind of like your paycheck. It’s bigger, but it doesn’t buy as much.

When you hear that corporate greed is causing inflation, remember who is really to blame – the government and its central bank. People who tell you otherwise are ignorant or lying.

SUV Used by O.J. Simpson Under Federal Investigation for Fiery Leaks

(Headline USA) The same make and model of car that entered into pop-culture lore following the notoriously iconic 1994 car chase to apprehend O.J. Simpson is now back in the spotlight, 30 years later, while facing a federal probe.

It may not be the actual 1993 white Ford Bronco XLT that was driven down the Los Angeles freeway by Al “A.C.” Cowlings, with Simpson in the back, as onlookers held signs cheering the fugitive on with messages like “Run, OJ, Run.”

But if Cowlings had been driving the latest Bronco model, the end result of the low-speed chase that gripped the nation while unfolding in real-time might instead have ended in a fiery explosion, according to a recent recall.

Now, the U.S. government’s auto safety agency has opened an investigation into Ford’s recall for gasoline leaks from cracked fuel injectors that can cause engine fires, saying in documents that the remedy doesn’t fix the leaks.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said in documents posted Friday that the probe will “evaluate the adequacy and safety consequences of the remedy” that Ford specifies in the recall.

The agency moved with unusual speed, posting documents detailing the “recall query” just two days after the recall was made public.

The recall covers nearly 43,000 Ford Bronco Sport SUVs from the 2022 and 2023 model years, and Escape SUVs from 2022. All have 1.5-liter engines.

NHTSA said that fuel injectors can crack, causing gasoline or vapors to leak at a high rate onto hot surfaces in the engine compartment.

The Associated Press reported Wednesday that Ford’s remedy for the leaks is to add a drain tube to send the gas away from hot surfaces, and a software update to detect a pressure drop in the fuel injection system. If that happens, the software will disable the high pressure fuel pump, reduce engine power and cut temperatures in the engine compartment. Owners also will get a “seek service” message.

But the U.S. said Friday that Ford’s fix lets fuel drain from a cylinder head hole to the ground below the vehicles. “The recall remedy does not include replacement of the cracked fuel injector,” the agency said.

Ford said Friday it is working with NHTSA on the investigation.

The company said in documents that it has reports of five under-hood fires and 14 warranty replacements of fuel injectors, but no reports of crashes or injuries.

In an email on Wednesday, Ford said it is not replacing fuel injectors because it is confident the recall repairs “will prevent the failure from occurring and protect the customer.”

The new software triggers a dashboard warning light and allows customers to drive to a safe location, stop the vehicle and arrange for service, the company said. NHTSA documents filed by Ford say the problem happens only in about 1% of the SUVs.

The company also said it will extend warranty coverage for cracked fuel injectors, so owners who experience the problem will get replacements. Repairs are already available, and details of the extended warranty will be available in June, Ford said.

The recall is an extension of a 2022 recall for the same problem, according to Ford. The repair has already been tested on vehicles involved in the previous recall, and Ford said it’s not aware of any problems.

The company also said it isn’t recommending that the SUVs be parked only outdoors because there’s no evidence that fires happen when vehicles are parked and the engines are off.

NHTSA said in documents that in the 2022 recall, which covered nearly 522,000 Bronco Sports and Escapes, Ford had the same remedy as the latest recall.

Michael Brooks, executive director of the nonprofit Center for Auto Safety, called Ford’s remedy for the fuel leaks a “Band-aid type recall” and said the company is trying to avoid the cost of repairing the fuel injectors.

Judge Sentences Terrorist Who Firebombed Pro-Life Group

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Hridindu Sankar Roychowdhury, 29, of Madison, Wisconsin, was sentenced Thursday to 90 months in federal prison for firebombing a pro-life office in the wake of the leak of the draft opinion in Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health Organization, which overturned Roe v. Wade.

According to the Justice Department, law enforcement responded to an active fire at an office building located in Madison on May 8, 2022. Inside, police found mason jars filled with fuel—consistent with the appearance of a Molotov cocktail, the DOJ said. Outside of the building, someone spray painted on one wall, “If abortions aren’t safe then you aren’t either” and, on another wall, a large “A” with a circle around it and the number “1312.”

No one was hurt in the bombing, though the office was badly damaged.

For the remainder of 2022, the bombing was a cold case, according to the DOJ. But then, a leftist protest took place at the Wisconsin state capitol, where FBI surveillance saw protestors spraying graffiti that said, “We will get revenge.” The FBI said that graffiti matched the one left at the pro-life bombing the May prior.

Law enforcement tracked the vehicle of one of the graffiti artists, and saw that it returned to a residence where Roychowdhury lived.

Law enforcement then set up surveillance on Roychowdhury. When they saw him discard a paper bag at a park in March 2023, they took DNA from the bag—and matched it to DNA taken from the Molotov cocktails at the May 2022 bombing scene.

Roychowdhury was as pegged a possible suspect by March 2023. He was arrested as he attempted to leave Boston on a one-way ticket to Guatemala City. He pled guilty in December.

“Roychowdhury’s arson was an act of domestic terrorism,” U.S. Attorney Timothy M. O’Shea for the Western District of Wisconsin said after the sentencing

“Domestic terrorism is cowardly and profoundly undemocratic. It is not speech; it is not an exchange of ideas; instead, it is an attempt to harm or frighten one’s fellow citizens, thus driving Americans apart and weakening the fabric of our democratic society.”

Sen. Kennedy Rips Into Mayorkas over Border Crisis: ‘You’ve Done Nothing’

(Headline USA) Sen. John Kennedy, R-La., ripped into Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas this week during a Senate hearing after Mayorkas finally admitted to lawmakers that the southern border “is in crisis,” the Washington Times reported.

Mayorkas has consistently denied that there is a border crisis during his appearances before Congress over the past three years. He now faces impeachment charges brought by the House, which the Senate must now consider before voting to either convict or acquit.

Responding to Mayorkas’s testimony, Kennedy said he doesn’t need any more evidence to know Mayorkas should be impeached.

“You’ve done nothing for four years. Nada, zero, zilch,” said Kennedy.

“In fact, the only people I know in this country who are better off today than they were four years ago are illegal immigrants,” he continued. “And that’s as a result of your policy.”

The senator argued that most Americans “don’t trust” Mayorkas because of the havoc illegal immigration has caused in their communities.

“I don’t hate you for it. I don’t hate anyone, but that’s why you’ve been impeached,” Kennedy said.

“And my colleagues may try to cover it up,” he continued, referring to Senate Democrats’ efforts to avoid bringing the House’s impeachment articles to trial. “They’re going to try to cover it up, but they can’t cover up the facts.”

Kennedy also grilled Mayorkas on whether the Biden administration’s open-border policies have been part of a larger electoral strategy to stack the Democratic voter rolls.

“Isn’t it true, Mr. Secretary, that the number of illegal immigrants that you and President Biden have allowed into our country counts for allocating electoral votes?” he asked.

Mayorkas responded that Kennedy’s accusation was “nothing short of preposterous.”

Kennedy, however, noted that the American people aren’t “stupid enough to believe” anything Mayorkas or President Joe Biden say on this issue.

Senate Dems Push Back on Colleagues’ Efforts to Force Sotomayor to Retire

(Headline USA) Some less-radical Senate Democrats were reportedly “baffled” by their leftist colleagues’ efforts to push Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor into retirement.

A number of left-wing organizations have called on 69-year-old Sotomayor—the oldest liberal member of the Supreme Court and third oldest of all nine justices—to resign before November’s election to prevent the possibility of another appointment to the bench by former President Donald Trump.

Even if Trump is not elected, some fret that a Republican-led Senate would force the next Democrat president to compromise on a pick who could clear the threshold for confirmation.

A few Senate Democrats expressed support for the Left’s demands last week, urging Sotomayor to “learn” from the late Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, who was replaced by Trump-appointed Justice Amy Coney Barrett after refusing similar calls to step aside during the Obama administration.

Others within the party, however, called the demands premature.

“She’s not 70. I might remind some of my colleagues to look around, check their birth certificate,” Sen. Peter Welch, D-Vt., a Judiciary Committee member, told The Hill. “She’s going full speed ahead. I’m not aware of significant issues, and I am aware of extraordinary competence.”

Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., agreed, saying Sotomayor is “doing a great job, and I think she should stay. I’m a little baffled by [the chatter],” he added.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., also dismissed as “nonsense” the Left’s arguments for Sotomayor’s resignation.

“Where did this come from?” Warren asked.

“I don’t want to add any fuel to the fire on this,” she added. “I think she’s doing a great job, and I am grateful for her public service.”

Questions about Sotomayor’s future on the bench escalated last week after Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., urged Sotomayor to consider what Ginsburg would have her do.

“It’s not like there’s any mystery here about what the lesson should be,” he said. “The old saying—graveyards are full of indispensable people, ourselves in this body included.”

Sen. Sheldon Whitehouse, D-R.I., agreed, saying he worried what another Trump appointment might do for the court’s “extremist wing.”

“Run it to 7-2 and you go from a captured court to a full MAGA court,” Whitehouse said. “Certainly I think if Justice Ginsburg had it to do over again, she might have rethought her confidence in her own health.”

DOJ Has No Plans to Prosecute Pro-Hamas Senate Insurrection, Despite J6 Parallels

(Headline USA) The Justice Department said this week that it will not be investigating or prosecuting any of the anti-Israel activists who shut down the Senate cafeteria in the U.S. Capitol complex this week, despite its charges against Jan. 6 defendants accused of similar misconduct.

More than 50 leftist activists were arrested on Tuesday and charged with crowding, obstructing, or incommoding after they stormed the Dirksen Senate Office Building, chanting, “Senate can’t eat until Gaza eats!”

Video footage of the protest showed the activists walking through the hallways of the building and yelling.

A source told Fox News that at one point Capitol Police shouted, “Everybody out or be placed under arrest,” to which a protester replied, “This is the house of the people!”

Capitol Police released a statement afterwards, noting, “It is illegal to demonstrate inside any of the Congressional Buildings.”

Many of the individuals arrested in the Senate building appear to be the same activists who interrupted testimony by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin during a Senate Armed Services Committee earlier that morning, according to Fox News.

As Austin was delivering his opening statement before the Senate Armed Services Committee, the protesters began yelling, “The blood of the people of Palestine is on your hands” and “Stop funding Israel!”

When asked if the D.C. U.S. Attorney would be launching its own investigation into the breach of the Senate office building, a spokesperson for the DOJ office said no, according to investigative reporter Julie Kelly.

“The Office of Attorney General for DC is handling those,” spokeswoman Patricia Hartman added.

The D.C. U.S. Attorney, however, has not shied away from prosecuting charges against Jan. 6 defendants.

Since the Jan. 6, 2021 uprising at the Capitol, federal prosecutors have charged more than 1,265 defendants across nearly all 50 states and D.C., and have secured sentences of incarceration for more than 460 people, according to the DOJ.

Harvard Offers Race-, Sex-, Ethnicity-, Sexuality-Based Grad. Ceremonies

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Harvard University’s Office for Equity, Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging will host “affinity celebrations” at its 2024 commencement, separating students based on race, sex, ethnicity and sexual orientation.

Among the segregated celebrations would be a “Disability Celebration,” a “Global Indigenous Celebration,” an “Asian American, Pacific Islander, Desi-American (APIDA) Celebration,” a “First Generation-Low Income Celebration,” a “Jewish Celebration,” a “Latinx Celebration,” a “Lavender Celebration [LGBT students],” a “Black Celebration,” a “Veterans Celebration” and an “Arab Celebration.”

It was also revealed by the National Review that Harvard will hold a central commencement ceremony for students of all backgrounds, in case some people don’t approve of segregation.

“Celebration Recognizing Arab Graduates, the Celebration Recognizing Jewish Graduates and the Celebration Recognizing Veteran Graduates are being planned in collaboration with student groups and campus partners,” a note on the sign-up form said.

Aside from the documents obtained by the news source, the only available public information regarding the segregated events was published on the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences page. The note didn’t mention the specific events or groups recognized, describing them as “student-led, staff-supported events that recognize and celebrate the accomplishments of graduates from marginalized and underrepresented communities.”

In 2023, the segregated celebrations at Harvard came under fire after the Manhattan Institute’s Christopher Rufo posted the schedule on Twitter, adding that Harvard had deleted the webpage from its website.

Rufo also mentioned in his post that white and Jewish students were the only two groups without their own events. Even though Harvard added Jews to their list, white people were left without their own ceremony, exposing Harvard’s anti-white racism even after the backlash.

However, some students opposed the segregated events, claiming that the addition of a separate celebration for Jewish students perpetuates the underlying dynamics driving anti-Semitism at Harvard.

“Rather than acknowledge the harmful ways in which Harvard DEI has contributed to campus antisemitism, the university further marginalizes individuals into groups of race, ethnicity, and religion. Harvard DEI is simply out of control,” Harvard Divinity School student Shabbos Kestenbaum said.

Democrats Already Weaponizing Pro-Life Issue as Predicted by Trump

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Embattled President Joe Biden has wasted no time in leveraging abortion as a partisan point of his sinking campaign strategy, particularly targeting his primary opponent and former President Donald Trump.

According to Politico, the Biden campaign intends to prompt the voices of several women speaking out against the pro-life movement, confirming Trump’s earlier prediction of Democratic tactics leading up to the November general election.

As reported by Politico, Biden will mirror the re-election campaign of Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear, a Democrat, who won a second term by painting Republicans as pro-life radicals.

Biden’s strategy follows Trump’s pledge not to support a national abortion ban. Trump’s rationale hinges on preemptively thwarting Democratic efforts to portray him and Republicans as extreme pro-life advocates.

Trump’s stance drew the ire of some pro-life Republicans, notably Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who advocated for a 15-week federal abortion ban.

Trump, however, contends that endorsing any such ban would only galvanize Democrats ahead of the general election.

In line with this perspective, Trump criticized Graham for publicly opposing his position, despite its clear political expediency.

“I blame myself for Lindsey Graham, because the only reason he won in the Great State of South Carolina is because I Endorsed him!” Trump asserted in a Monday post on Truth Social.

In a separate post, Trump remarked, “Senator Lindsey Graham is doing a great disservice to the Republican Party, and to our Country.”

In public remarks, Trump reminded angered Republicans that he—not any other Republican president—is credited with the overturning of Roe v. Wade, the infamous Supreme Court decision that established a constitutional right to abortions.

“The Democrats are thrilled with Lindsey, because they want this Issue to simmer for as long a period of time as possible,” Trump added. “They are destroying our Country, and they don’t want to talk about Inflation, a Bad Economy, the Horrible Open Border, Rigged Elections, Afghanistan, Ukraine/Russia, or the Attack on Israel, all of which would never have happened if I were President. Great job Lindsey!”

Hamas-Supporting DHS Agent Is Still Employed, Mayorkas Admits

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas admitted to Congress on Apr. 10, 2024, that an employee who was exposed as a Hamas supporter remains on the DHS payroll.

Nejwa Ali was placed on leave after it was revealed that she was celebrating the Hamas’s attack on Israel on social media, according to the Daily Wire.

“[The] individual is on administrative leave, not performing the duties and responsibilities for which she was hired,” Mayorkas said, adding that “the investigation is ongoing” and that he “cannot speak any further about it because it is an ongoing personnel matter.”

Ali was a spokeswoman for the Palestinian Liberation Organization (PLO) who was hired by the DHS after the PLO was banned from Washington D.C.

Her job was to vet people who claimed to qualify for asylum, review evidence to “determine fraud of security concerns” and “perform credible fear interviews” that determine whether the person was fleeing persecution or lying to get into the country.

She was constantly posting on various social media platforms almost only about Israel, with her bio saying she is “Palestinian @ heart,” the news source said. Ali also shared an image glorifying the Hamas hang-gliders parachuting into a music concert with guns.

“F*** Israel and any Jew that supports Israel,” she wrote in one of her previous comments.

During her paid administrative leave, Ali was protesting in front of the Israel embassy during work hours and to dox military members there.

Additionally, she gloated on LinkedIn about Mayorkas’ refusal to fire her.

“Yes, please do!” she wrote in response to one of the comments regarding the U.S. government employing a terrorist sympathizer.

The Daily Wire also contacted Ali to ask about her initial posts, with Ali responding by doubling down on her pro-Hamas rhetoric.

“I abso-f—ing-lutely celebrate them, a–hole, f— you!” she said.
