(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) California Democrat Gov. Gavin Newsom shelled out $8 million in funding to provide both physical and cyber security to 21 abortion clinics in his state.
A statement from his office claimed this move was to protect the clinics “as extreme politicians continue to attack access to essential reproductive health care.”
According to Breitbart, the money was provided to the clinics via a grant program called the Physical and Digital Infrastructure Security Grant Program, which operates under the governor’s Office of Emergency Services.
“All health care providers deserve to feel safe while offering resources and services to patients,” Newsom said in a statement. “As attacks on reproductive health care continue, we’re providing resources to help ensure patients and providers feel safe and secure while accessing or providing critical reproductive health care.”
The funds were specifically relegated to Planned Parenthood and other independent clinics that “may be the target of violence and vandalism.”
The statement did not reference any specific instances of either physical or cyber attacks on abortion clinics in the state.
“This funding represents a key part of our responsibility to protect Californians from violence,” Cal OES Director Nancy Ward said in a statement. “By providing security at vulnerable healthcare locations, we can help protect everyone involved, from providers, to patients, and the surrounding community.”
According to CatholicVote, at least 86 attacks pro-life groups and pregnancy centers took place since the overturn of Roe v. Wade. Since then, 154 different Catholic churches faced attacks, with the assaults ranging from graffiti to destruction of statues and a few thefts.
FBI director Christopher Wray admitted in a Senate Homeland Security Committee hearing that 70% of the threats of violence concerning abortion since the overturn were against pro-life groups.
Pro-life pregnancy centers across the nation have faced increased vandalism, arson and other violent retaliation from activist groups such as Jane’s Revenge, who promote abortion as a right.
Despite many calls for investigations into the seemingly coordinated events, the FBI has done very little to find and prosecute the anti-life activists.
