(John Ransom, Headline USA) Shortly after Democrat attempts to end the filibuster in the Senate failed, Democrats used the tactic that they claim is tied to racism, to block sanctions against Russia.
“On Thursday, the same day their effort to eliminate the Senate’s filibuster rule appeared to receive the death blow, Democrat senators employed the filibuster to prevent a Republican bill from coming up for a vote,” reported CNS.
Democrats have claimed that the filibuster is a remnant of Jim Crow in their attempts to pass a federal takeover of election law, because they only control the Senate by the narrowest of majorities.
Under Senate rules, 60 votes are required to cut off debate on an issue, while Democrats only control 50 votes — plus a one vote tiebreaker from Vice President Kamala Harris. That 60-vote threshold is the filibuster.
Yesterday, I joined @TedCruz and my @SenateGOP colleagues to push the Biden administration to prioritize AMERICAN pipelines and jobs, not Russian ones.

Senators defeated a motion to cut off debate and vote to impose sanctions on Russia over Russia’s threatened invasion of the Ukraine, in legislation offered by Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, according to The Hill.
“Senators voted 55-44 on Cruz’s legislation, falling short of the 60 votes needed for it to pass,” reported The Hill.
The vote came immediately after it became clear that the two Democrat senators that liberals needed to kill the filibuster, would not support this scheme, according to Politico.
It’s not the first time that Democrats have been called out for the filibuster hypocrisy.
“When South Carolina Republican Tim Scott proposed a policing reform bill last year,” said Newsweek, “Democrats used the filibuster to kill it.”
“Scott, who is an African American man, probably finds it quite amusing that the Democratic Party used what it now refers to as a racist relic to defeat his legislation,” Newsweek added.
President Biden has previously waived sanctions on Russia imposed by then-President Trump, even after Biden claimed that he was going to be tougher on Russia than Trump, said NBC News.
“The administration in May defied Congress and suspended sanctions on the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, citing the need to avoid upsetting relations with Germany and other European partners,” NBC reported. “Both Democrats and Republicans blasted the decision at the time.”
