Idaho Teachers Brag about Circumventing State’s CRT Ban

'It's 'mental health.' So you know it's just our 'mental health curriculum'...'

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Undercover journalists with Accuracy in Media have discovered several Idaho teachers have continued to teach critical race theory under several different names and in violation of the state’s ban on the toxic ideology.

In 2021, Idaho passed a bill preventing public schools and universities from teaching CRT. Teachers have circumvented this law by calling it “mental health,” reported National File.

“Social-Emotional-Learning, you can’t say that here anymore,” said Idaho teacher Cindy Dion.

“It’s ‘mental health.’ So you know it’s just our ‘mental health curriculum.'”

Social-Emotional-Learning has been criticized as a trojan horse for CRT-related themes in school curricula.

Proponents of CRT claim that it was never taught in elementary schools and is a legal theory that only appears in college classrooms.

While CRT is a legal theory, it has often appeared in lower-grade classrooms and frequently includes terms such as “equity” or “diversity and inclusion.”

Melissa Langan, the chief academic officer for the Caldwell School District in Idaho, explained how the district had simply renamed Social-Emotional-Learning to “behavior adaptations.”

“It’s kind of a bummer that we have to do that,” Langan said.

“But at the same time, it was kind of brilliant… because they don’t care about [behavior adaptions], even though it’s the same thing,” Langan unknowingly told Accuracy In Media.

While Idaho was one of the first states in the union to ban CRT in classrooms, critics of the bill have stated that there are simple ways to sidestep the ban.
