George Soros Funding Leftists’ Illegal Alien Lawsuit against DeSantis

'The immigrants were homeless, hungry, and abandoned – and these activists didn’t care about them then... '

(Headline USA) The leftist activists who recruited and convinced illegal immigrants on the recent flight to Martha’s Vineyard to sue Florida Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis are being funded by liberal billionaire George Soros, according to Fox News.

Lawyers for Civil Rights, a leftist activist organization, revealed this week that it had filed a class-action lawsuit against DeSantis on behalf of Alianza Americas, which is a “network of migrant-led organizations supporting immigrants across the United States.” Alianza Americas had received $1,383,947 from Soros’s Open Society Foundations between 2016 and 2020, financial records showed.

The grants came from three of Soros’s non-profits: Open Society Institute, Open Society Policy Center and Foundation to Promote Open Society.

Activists from Alianza Americas and Lawyers for Civil Rights recruited illegal immigrants who arrived in Martha’s Vineyard last week to join a class-action lawsuit against DeSantis, accusing the governor of participating in a “fraudulent and discriminatory scheme” to relocate them.

The lawsuit, filed in federal court in Boston, alleges that the migrants were told they were going to Boston or Washington, “which was completely false,” and were induced with perks such as $10 McDonald’s gift certificates.

“No human being should be used as a political pawn,” said Ivan Espinoza-Madrigal, executive director of Lawyers for Civil Rights.

DeSantis’s team slammed the lawsuit as a stunt.

“It is opportunistic that activists would use illegal immigrants for political theater,” said Taryn Fenske, DeSantis’ communication director, in a statement late Tuesday.

“The immigrants were homeless, hungry, and abandoned – and these activists didn’t care about them then,” Feske said. “Florida’s program gave them a fresh start in a sanctuary state and these individuals opted to take advantage of chartered flights to Massachusetts. It was disappointing that Martha’s Vineyard called in the Massachusetts National Guard to bus them away from the island within 48 hours.”

DeSantis on Tuesday defended his decision to fly migrants to Martha’s Vineyard, saying their decisions were completely voluntary and that they were in awful condition when Florida got involved.

“When Biden is flying these people all over the fruited plain in the middle of the night, I didn’t hear a peep out of those people!” DeSantis said about the activists and their lawsuit.

Many of the migrants confirmed that their conditions were horrible before Florida intervened, according to media reports that revealed they were thankful to DeSantis for allowing them to go to a different part of the country.
