Gave Them to Ukraine? Biden Admits He Depleted Military Out of Ammo

'[W]e’re low on them...'

(Luis CornelioHeadline USA) In a recent interview with Fareed Zakaria, President Biden admitted that the United States military is running out of ammunition. This shocking revelation comes as Biden plans to provide cluster munitions to Ukraine, a move that has ignited a fierce debate due to the controversial nature of these weapons.

During the interview, Zakaria pressed the president about his controversial decision to funnel cluster munitions, which have been banned by 100 nations, including some of America’s closest NATO allies. Zakaria also reminded Biden that his own government once claimed the use of cluster bombs constitutes war crimes.

In response, Biden claimed, “Two things, Fareed. It was a very difficult decision on my part… We’re in a situation where Ukraine continues to be brutally attacked across the board by munitions, by these cluster munitions… that are a danger to civilians, number one.”

Biden further elaborated on the ammunition shortage facing both Ukraine and the U.S. “The Ukrainians are running out of ammunition,” Biden asserted. “This is a war relating to munitions and they’re running out of that ammunition, and we’re low on them.”

Biden then blamed the Department of Defense for recommending the use of cluster bombs. “[W]hat I finally did, I took the recommendation of the Defense Department to, not permanently, but to allow for this transition period where we get more 155 weapons, the shells for the Ukrainians to provide them with something that has a very low dud rate,” Biden added. “They’re trying to get through the trenches and stop those tanks from rolling.”

Highlighting the gravity of his policy reversal, Biden admitted, “It was not an easy decision. We’re not signatories of that agreement. It took me a while to get convinced to do it.”

However, Biden’s decision, which directly contradicts his administration’s previous stance, has faced immediate backlash even from within his own party. Rep. Barbara Lee, D-Calif., blasted Biden’s agreement to hand over cluster bombs.

“Cluster bombs should never be used. That is crossing the line,” Lee said in an interview with CNN on Sunday. “Once you see what takes place—we know what takes place in terms of cluster bombs being very dangerous to civilians. They don’t always immediately explode. Children could step on them. That is a line we should not cross.”
