(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) In one of the more awkward political pairings to grace the internet, California‘s radical leftist Gov. Gavin Newsom has joined former President Donald Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social.
Newsom tweeted about his intentions with Truth Social, writing that he was “Going to be on there calling out Republican lies.”

Newsom’s first post on Truth Social raised questions about murder statistics, including his statement that “I know we’re all on this platform in search for the ‘truth,’ but the truth is, I’ve not been able to find a simple explanation for the fact that we have a red state murder problem,” according to Just The News.
Newsom’s former political rival and current head of Truth Social, Devin Nunes, R-Calif., greeted the Governor, writing, “Please welcome the Governor of California @realgovnewsom40 to Truth Social! Welcome to freedom, Governor thank you for joining Truth Social!”
Truth Social was founded to be “the opposite of some Silicon Valley tech oligarch freak telling people what they want to think and deciding who can or cannot be on the platform,” according to Nunes.
Despite his history of clashing with Trump, Newsom has not been discriminated against at Truth Social. Newsom was verified within a day and has confirmed over 2,400 followers, despite only following two people.
Truth Social did more than welcome Newsom. His membership on the platform was announced to all members of the site via a push notification.
The membership of Newsom follows a significant rise in membership on the social media platform.
When the platform launched, it inspired over a million members to join within a day.
Over 400,000 early members received the same notification while attempting to join the site, “Due to massive demand, we have placed you on our waitlist.” The social media platform, despite this difficulty, expressed gratitude to its delayed users, writing, “we love you, and you’re not just another number to us.”
Despite its initial difficulties, Truth Social outperformed other conservative social media alternatives, like Rumble and Parler, in app downloads and membership.
