It took the jury less than 10 hours to determine what anyone with even a loose grasp on reality already knew, Jussie Smollett concocted and staged a hate crime on himself, then lied about it to police and everyone else, including the jury that found him guilty.
Ever since the night of the January, 2019, incident, Smollett has claimed that he had been attacked by MAGA-loving racists, who beat him up, tied a noose around his neck and soaked him with bleach.
He told the same tale to the jury, in sworn testimony and with a straight face. The jury didn’t buy the performance.
Smollett was guilty on five of six felony counts of disorderly conduct for making a false report to Chicago police, reported CNN: “A disorderly conduct charge for a false crime report is a Class 4 felony and punishable by up to three years in prison and a $25,000 fine. Cook County Judge James Linn will have discretion in imposing a concurrent or consecutive sentence for each count at a later date.”
Not that this will mark an end to the case. Smollett is almost certain to appeal, and there remains a whole mob of radical activists and social wokeness gadflies who will remain convinced that Smollett is innocent, despite all evidence to the contrary, and was the victim of a white supremacist show trial.
Recall how tainted with rank hypocrisy the whole process has been, starting with Soros-funded, radical leftist Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx’s initial decision to drop all charges against Smollett.
Reason prevailed then, and justice prevailed with the jury’s verdict.
