(Headline USA) Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., tried to defend her hypocritical use of gas stoves this week after she was blasted for suggesting gas stoves should be banned.
Ocasio-Cortez came out against gas stoves on Wednesday after a top official at the Consumer Product Safety Commission suggested they could be banned due to health concerns.
“Did you know that ongoing exposure to NO2 from gas stoves is linked to reduced cognitive performance,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote on Twitter.
Critics were quick to point out Ocasio-Cortez’s hypocrisy, since pictures she previously posted on Instagram prove that she herself uses a gas stove.

In a new Instagram video on Thursday, Ocasio-Cortez tried to argue that her position wasn’t hypocritical at all, arguing that she has no choice but to use a gas stove because she rents her apartment.
“First of all, I rent, period. Second of all, it doesn’t even matter. Because, by that logic, these are the same people who would have said we should have never gotten rid of leaded gasoline just because someone may have driven a gasoline car,” she claimed.
Ocasio-Cortez went on to claim that “the science” backs up the concerns about gas stoves.
“Science evolves and gives us new knowledge with time,” she said. “There is very concerning science about some of the emissions from gas stoves, especially around the cognitive development of young children, asthma, cancer, et cetera.”
She then claimed that conservatives’ reactions to the potential gas stove ban was over-the-top.
“I do think it’s funny the absolute, utter Republican meltdown where they’re like ‘you can take my gas stove from my cold dead hands,’ or, ‘how dare you talk about gas stoves, you have a gas stove,'” she said. “This is a decision about what may be sold and regulations in the far future. Okay? So everyone just take the temperature down a little bit. No secret government agency is going to bust down your door and take your gas stove away.”
