(Chris Parker, Headline USA) The United States Treasury is playing partisanship in its refusal to fulfill a recent request by Republicans for Hunter Biden‘s financial information.
The Treasury stated that it will only release the records through a committee with Democratic approval, reported Fox News.
Republican lawmakers requested the records over suspicious activity that includes substantial transactions that could be signs of money laundering and fraud.
“The Biden Administration is restricting Congress’ access to SARs, and Committee Republicans are investigating whether this change in longstanding policy is motivated by efforts to shield Hunter Biden and potentially President Biden from scrutiny,” Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., wrote in July.
Biden’s business dealings have faced severe legal and ethical scrutiny. His questionable dealings with China have led to an investigation that is largely being kept out of public view. It was also discovered that he spent tens of thousands of dollars on Russian prostitutes.
This also isn’t the first incident of a federal agency covering Biden’s corrupt business dealings. In July, Justice Department officials told CNN that his business deals in Ukraine and China are unlikely to be investigated.
“The Justice Department investigation initially focused on Hunter Biden’s financial and business activities in foreign countries dating to when Joe Biden was vice president,” CNN reported. “As the investigation has entered its final stages, prosecutors have narrowed their focus to tax and gun-related charges.”
Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen is requesting a statement of purpose for seeking the information and claims her refusal to comply “is not a political process.”
“Since the beginning of this Administration, Treasury has made SARs available in response to authorized committee requests and continues to engage on the process with any individual members seeking information.”
Since Democrats currently hold a majority in Congress, it has been easy for federal agencies to ignore requests and demands from Republicans. If a red wave does sweep the United States during this year’s midterm elections, that could change.
