UPDATE: Manchin Reveals Nick Saban Opposed Ending Filibuster After All

'Now we also support your leadership in shaping legislation to secure our democracy ... '

UPDATE (1/21/22, 10:30 am): Sen. Joe Manchin tweeted the full text of the letter from West Virginia graduates including Nick Saban. He revealed that a footnote in the letter expressly stated that Saban opposed ending the filibuster, as did Manchin.

It is unclear what the purpose of drafting the letter was if simply to reinforce Manchin’s existing position on the controversial voting overhaul that was defeated Wednesday. However, Democrats are now left to pursue legislation that will force them to compromise with members of the GOP minority.

Despite his winning record (with a rare exception being this year’s NCAA championship) Saban’s decision to veer into political advocacy in the deep-red state could risk alienating him among the school’s fans.

Original story below:

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USAAlabama CEO and head football coach Nick Saban joined several other woke college and professional coaches in the penning of a letter to Sen. Joe Machin, D-W. Va., demanding that he take action and pass through the Democrats’ voting “rights” bill, CNN reported.

Saban, an employee of the state of Alabama who makes $10 million per year, decided that Americans, including the people of his home state, need to be more open to violating centuries-old voting laws.

He has joined forces with other woke West Virginia college-graduates to tell Manchin how to represent his own state.

“We strongly support urgently needed legislation that will protect both the rights of voters and the integrity of outcomes in all Federal elections,” they wrote.

Saban has attained incredible political knowledge for a man who has spent decades coaching football at the highest levels.

He and his colleagues also asserted that the 2020 election was secure, and begged Manchin to support all Democratic efforts to continue to make elections so “secure.”

“The Freedom to Vote Act, which you sponsored with Committee Chair Senator Klobuchar and other colleagues, effectively addressed these goals,” they said, before emphasizing the need for increased national security during Presidential transitions.

“Now we also support your leadership in shaping legislation to secure our democracy by protecting election integrity, principled Presidential transitions and our national security during transitions.”

They also remarked on the nature of democracy, revealing their lack of understanding, yet still opining without shame.

In their view, voters need to be granted different ways to express their votes.

“Our democracy is at its best when all Americans are encouraged to participate. We support measures to provide voters with a range of opportunities to obtain and cast a lawful ballot, including robust in-person, early, and absentee voting options,” they wrote.

According to the coaches, we need even more technology to use for elections so that we can ensure that all voices are heard.

“We support the use of election security, equipment and record-keeping measures that are reliable and evidence-based, and clearly support the integrity of election processes,” they concluded.

In a previous endorsement of former Auburn football coach and Republican candidate Tommy Tuberville, former President Donald Trump amusingly called Saban “Lou.”

“Really successful coach,” Trump said of Tuberville. “Beat Alabama, like six in a row, but we won’t even mention that. As he said … because of that, maybe we got ’em Lou Saban … And he’s great, Lou Saban, what a great job he’s done.”
