House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., claimed the insurgents who broke into the U.S. Capitol building last week were driven to engage in violence by their “whiteness.”
During an online video conference with her San Francisco constituents this week, Pelosi tried to make the Capitol riot all about race.
“When that assault was taking place on the Capitol, 3,865 people in our country died of the coronavirus, many of them people of color because of the injustice of it all,” she began, according to The Hill. “The next day, on Thursday, 4,000 people died of the coronavirus. Why? Because decisions were made at the highest level, months before in the Oval Office, of denial, distortion, delay, calling it a ‘hoax.’”
Pelosi said she believed Jan. 6’s disaster would be “an epiphany for those who were in opposition of our democracy to see the light.”
“Instead, it was an epiphany for the world to see that there are people in our country, led by this president, for the moment, who have chosen their whiteness over democracy,” she continued. “That’s what this is about.”
Over the past week, several Democrats have tried to make the Capitol siege a racial issue.
Even Joe Biden adopted leftist rhetoric, claiming Black Lives Matter activists would have been treated much more harshly if they had broken into the Capitol building.
“You can’t tell me that if it had been a group of Black Lives Matter protesters yesterday they wouldn’t have been treated very differently than the mob of thugs that stormed the Capitol,” Biden said. “We all know that is true. And it is totally unacceptable. Totally unacceptable. The American people saw it in plain view.”
Kamala Harris went even further and claimed the Capitol riot proves there are “two systems of justice” in America.
The challenge we’re facing in our country is about more than the actions of a few. It’s about how to transform a justice system that doesn’t work equally for all. pic.twitter.com/w2ONQWUxjN
