Univ. of Fla. Lied to DeSantis, Downplayed Scope of Massive DEI Spending

'... when they're discovered, they make every attempt to hide, obfuscate and conceal the true nature of what's happening inside their institutions...'

(Dmytro “Henry” AleksandrovHeadline USA) Woke officials from the University of Florida massively downplayed the scale of their Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs in official filings to Gov. Ron DeSantis.

Christopher Rufo, a man who was hired by DeSantis to fight the indoctrination in the educational system of the state of Florida, accused university bosses of “lying through their teeth to the governor,” the Daily Mail reported.

“I’ve discovered through public records requests and the threat of litigation that the University of Florida, which is under the purview of a Red state legislature, explicitly lied to the governor, in its official response to his request about their DEI programs,” Rufo said.

“But I’ve discovered through these bombshell documents that they, in fact, had more than 1,000 separate DEI programs embedded in every facet of the university’s programs and administration.”

The Gainesville-based university, which has roughly 8,000 academics and 60,000 students, said in its official reply that it runs some 30 to 40 DEI schemes at a cost of more than $5 million per year.

The officials included the salaries of DEI staffers — a chief diversity officer, assistant director, senior advisor to the president and an executive assistant, among others — that gobbled up more than $1 million each year, with most of this money coming from state coffers, the news source reported.

Hundreds of thousands of dollars were also spent on fostering a “welcoming, inclusive work environment” in the university’s various schools for nursing, design, engineering and other disciplines.

Of the $5.3 million spent on DEI work, $3.3 million of it is funded by the state government, according to the filing. Additionally, the university got money from federal sources, tuition fees, grants, donations and other sources.

“What we see over and over in America’s institutions is that the leaders have been captured by radical left-wing DEI ideology,” Rufo said.

“And then when they’re discovered, they make every attempt to hide, obfuscate and conceal the true nature of what’s happening inside their institutions.”
