(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, demanded an interview with the former FBI agent who reportedly impeded the investigation into Hunter Biden’s dubious business dealings and alleged ties to criminal activity.
According to the Daily Caller, Bradley Benavides served in the counterintelligence devision of the FBI and has since moved to the private sector.
Benavides discussed the younger Biden’s suspicious international dealings with Sens. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, and Ron Johnson, R-Wis., in August of 2020, towards the beginnings of the investigation. Someone leaked the details of the meeting to the Washington Post, which published them in turn—but nothing ever came of them.
Grassley stated that the briefing was fruitless and claimed he did not call Benavides in again because his “Democratic colleagues weren’t interested in anything but using the briefing to try and destroy [the] investigation.”
However, Jordan called Benavides back to sit for a transcribed interview with the full House Judiciary Committee.
“The allegations that the FBI arranged a briefing for two United States senators as a pretext to impede their investigation—and then leaked that briefing to the media—are deeply troubling,” Jordan wrote in a letter to Benavides.
Grassley and Johnson called Benavides and his colleague, intelligence analyst Nikki Floris, in for a similar meeting in August 2022.
Republicans previously expressed concern over extensive, troubling government interference in the investigation of Hunter Biden, which has revealed multiple instances of drug use, prostitution, tax evasion, two misdemeanors and a felony gun charge.
The Justice Department dismissed the entire investigative team in charge of the tax investigation with little to no explanation from the powers that be.
Assistant Special Agent in Charge Timothy Thibault resigned from the FBI in the midst of the investigation after allegations of shady partisan moves to cover the Biden family’s corruption.
Thibault was under suspicion of overthrowing an investigation into Hunter’s relationships with China and Ukraine prior to the 2020 election.
Grassley sent a letter to the FBI and DOJ, requesting an investigation into Thibault’s misconduct:
“Simply put, if a politically charged investigation is to be opened, the Justice Department and FBI have an obligation to ensure that it’s done the right way,” Grassley wrote. “Based on the allegations, that does not appear to have happened. Such improper conduct demands further explanation from the Justice Department and FBI.”
