Rand Paul Points Out New Research That Undermines ‘Fauci and Other Fearmongers’

Recently published research suggests antibodies and vaccines can provide significant protection against different variants of the coronavirus.

Senator Rand Paul, who has been an outspoken critic of Dr. Anthony Fauci and the government’s response to Covid-19, took to Twitter to tout the new study.

“Sorry Dr Fauci and other fearmongers, new study shows vaccines and naturally acquired immunity DO effectively neutralize COVID variants,” Paul said.

According to the recently published research article in the Journal of the American Medical Association, researchers “compared the neutralizing-antibody response to 4 variants in infected and vaccinated individuals to determine how mutations within the spike protein are associated with virus neutralization.”

The result? Antibodies and vaccines can neutralize variants of Covid-19.

“This study found neutralizing activity of infection- and vaccine-elicited antibodies against 4 SARS-CoV-2 variants, including B.1, B.1.1.7, and N501Y,” the research letter reads. “Because neutralization studies measure the ability of antibodies to block virus infection, these results suggest that infection- and vaccine-induced immunity may be retained against the B.1.1.7 variant.”

So far, antibodies and vaccines have not proven to be a silver bullet against the virus, but this recent research is promising in the fight against coronavirus mutations.

This latest dispute between Fauci and Sen. Paul, who is a doctor, is not the first time the two have butted heads. Sen. Paul has been critical of covid-related shutdowns for months, saying the government has abused its power and infringed on the liberties of Americans.

Last week, Sen. Paul went after Fauci on mask policy.

“You want to get rid of vaccine hesitancy?” Sen. Paul said. “Tell them you can quit wearing your mask after they get the vaccine. You want people to get the vaccine, give them a reward instead of telling them that the nanny state’s going to be there for three more years and you got to wear a mask forever. People don’t want to hear it.”

But Fauci fired back, calling Sen. Paul “dead wrong.”

“He was saying if you’ve been infected, or you’ve been vaccinated, don’t wear a mask, which is completely against all public health tenets,” Fauci told ‘CBS This Morning.’

Fauci added, “He’s dead wrong. I mean, I don’t have anything personally against him. But he’s just quite frankly incorrect.”
