Radical Anti-Integrity Rep. Raskin: Electoral College an ‘Accident Waiting to Happen’

'We have to look at the way that the electoral system itself is vulnerable to strategic bad-faith actors like Donald Trump...'

(Ezekiel Loseke, Headline USA) Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., a member of the House’s partisan Jan. 6 committee, tipped his hand yet again to his own desire to disrupt the institutional norms of the U.S. political process as prescribed by the Constitution.

Raskin, who also acted as a ringleader for Democrats’ second failed impeachment effort against former President Donald Trump, told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes on Friday that the Electoral College must be changed because it is an “accident waiting to happen,” as reported by Axios.

The Constitution establishes the process for a representative system to elect the president  in Article 2, Section 1. The Electoral College was defended by Founding Father and Revolutionary War hero Alexander Hamilton in the Federalist Papers No. 68 as a means of preventing “tumult and disorder” in the election.

“[T]he immediate election should be made by men most capable of analyzing the qualities adapted to the station, and acting under circumstances favorable to deliberation, and to a judicious combination of all the reasons and inducements which were proper to govern their choice,” Hamilton wrote.

“A small number of persons, selected by their fellow-citizens from the general mass, will be most likely to possess the information and discernment requisite to such complicated investigations,” he added.

Democrats, who have encouraged open borders and lax election-integrity laws, see a direct democracy as their way to secure permanent majorities by allowing populous states like California to exert an outsized influence.

Raskin suggested in his interview that any system capable of electing Donald Trump must be inherently flawed.

“We have to look at the way that the electoral system itself is vulnerable to strategic bad-faith actors like Donald Trump,” he claimed.

“The electoral college is an accident waiting to happen,” he continued. “And we have to deal with that at some point in American history, and why not now?”

While Raskin doesn’t shy away at attacking parts of the Constitution that work to his party’s disadvantage, he is also happy to invoke the founding document in service of his own partisan ends.

He recently told CBS’s  Face the Nation that he opposed electoral integrity reforms because “that’s outside of the Constitution,” per Axios.

Indeed, Raskin defended President Joe Biden’s tyrannical “red speech” on Constitutional grounds.

“Joe Biden was right to sound the alarm this week about these continuing attacks on our constitutional order from the outside by Donald Trump and his movement,” Raskin claimed, according to Axios.

In the same interview, he accused Trump Republicans of being a fascist party.
