Massachusetts Ice Cream Shop Forced to Close After Reopening and Experiencing 'Verbal Assault' From Customers

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) A Massachusetts ice-cream parlor was forced to close its doors just one day after it had reopened because angry patrons reportedly complained it was too busy.

Polar Cave Ice Cream Parlour, in Mashpee, reopened last week in order to serve pickup-only orders.

The store’s owners, Mark Lawrence, warned customers ahead of time that they’d need to call ahead to place their orders because the store would be limiting the number of people inside the building. But many customers ignored his directive entirely, he said.

Eventually, a crowd began to form, Lawrence said, and the customers began taking out their frustration on his employees.

Some of the customers complained that the parlor was too crowded, Lawrence explained, but instead of leaving or waiting patiently outside, they “verbally assaulted” his staff.

“One of my best workers quit yesterday at the end of her shift,” he told WFXT-TV. “[T]he words she was called, and the language—you wouldn’t even say in a men’s locker room. And to say it to a 17-year-old kid, they should be ashamed of themselves.”

Lawrence said the frustrations coronavirus pandemic—and the resulting economic toll from restrictive stay-at-home orders—seemed to have brought out the worst in many.

“People have forgotten how to treat other human beings in the six or seven weeks that they’ve been confined to their homes,” he added. “They have no clue how to respect other human beings.”

So Lawrence decided to close the parlor until he can implement his new business rules, which will require customers to place orders at least one hour in advance, according to Fox News.

Lawrence also started a GoFundMe for the 17-year-old employee who had been berated, in the hopes of helping her save up for college.

She was “planning to work as much as possible to save money for college” before she quit, the GoFundMe fundraiser states. As of Tuesday morning, the fundraiser had accumulated more than $30,000.

Reopening won’t be easy, and it’s likely that many other businesses will experience similar frustrations, Lawrence said.

“The underlying message here that gets lost is: How will other businesses reopen? There is no road map to follow,” he wrote in a Facebook post.

“Years of being in business, no one has ever had to go through anything like this,” he continued. “It’s like receiving a box from IKEA with a bunch of ‘stuff’ with no instructions and making something. What works for one business well might be a complete failure at another. Each business is unique in its own way.”

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) A group of Los Angeles County inmates intentionally tried to infect themselves with the coronavirus in order to be released early, according to California authorities.

Surveillance video footage of inmates at the North County Correctional Facility shows them sharing the same bottle of hot water and taking turns breathing through the same mask.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villaneuva said during a press conference on Monday that these bizarre actions were an attempt to artificially elevate their oral temperatures, which were taken by a nurse moments later, and spread the infection around the prison.

Their attempts to spread COVID-19 worked, Villanueva said, but none of the inmates were prematurely released.

“As a direct result of the behavior seen in the video, 21 men tested positive for COVID-19 within a week,” Villanueva said, according to CNN.

“A gross misunderstanding among the inmate population led many to believe that those diagnosed with COVID-19 may be released, which is untrue,” he said.

Prisons across the country have, in fact, been releasing inmates early due to concerns about the coronavirus and its spread throughout the prison population. In Los Angeles County alone, more than 5,000 inmates have been released, Villanueva admitted. He claimed, however, that the department has only released inmates when “sound science and sound legal advice” support doing so.

Villanueva also said the department is considering criminal prosecution for the inmates who intentionally spread the coronavirus.

“It is very disturbing to think that people would do this to themselves deliberately in an attempt to force our hand to release more people from custody,” he said.

Michiganders Form Militia to Protect Barber Who Reopened Shop

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Michiganders formed a militia this week to prevent state police from arresting a 77-year-old Owosso barber who reopened his shop in defiance of the state’s shelter-in-place order.

Karl Manke opened his barbershop last week and received a packed lobby of customers his first morning, according to Fox-66.

He was immediately slapped with two citations, but dozens of customers returned to his shop every day, often waiting hours outside for a haircut.

On Friday, Michigan state police issued Manke a health protection order and a cease-and-desist letter from state Attorney General Dana Nessel demanding that he close his shop. Nessel also threatened to take Manke to court if he refused to shut down.

“Mr. Manke’s actions are not a display of harmless civil disobedience,” Nessel’s order states. “His actions are counterproductive to the collective effort businesses and communities everywhere have made to slow the spread of COVID-19, and by opening the doors to his business, he’s putting the lives of many more Michiganders at risk.”

Still, Manke refused.

In response, the state asked a Shiawassee County judge to sign a temporary restraining order against Manke. But Judge Matthew Stewart rejected Nessel’s request in order to “provide Mr. Manke with an opportunity for a hearing,” according to a spokesman for Nessel’s office.

Michiganders rallied behind Manke and guarded the door to his shop to make sure that law enforcement could not take further action, Fox-66 reported.

“Yesterday six troopers came in to enforce the governor’s order or to issue a cease-or-desist order, so we are here to make sure he doesn’t get arrested,” Daniel Brewer, one of the members of the local militia, told the station.

“We’re willing to stand in front of that door and block the entrance so the police will have no entry there today,” Brewer said.

Manke said that he isn’t “trying to be a scofflaw.”

“I’m just trying to make a living,” he said. “I tried for the unemployment. I was denied twice on unemployment. I haven’t seen anything in one these other checks from the government.”

Gov. Gretchen Whitmer “is not my mother,” he told the Detroit Free Press. “And I just made an adult decision that I was gonna open up.”

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Colorado health officials indefinitely suspended the license of a restaurant that reopened on Mother’s Day in defiance of the state’s shelter-in-place order.

Gov. Jared Polis said on Monday that C&C Coffee and Kitchen, which drew dozens of customers eager to support the business on Sunday, will not be permitted to legally operate because it created an “immediate health hazard” by reopening.

“I hope, I pray that nobody falls sick from businesses that chose to violate the law,” Polis said during a press conference, according to the Denver Post.

“But if the state didn’t act and more businesses followed suit, it’s a near guarantee that people would lose their lives and it would further delay the opening of legitimate businesses.”

The Tri-County Health Department said it had warned C&C Coffee and Kitchen not to reopen its dining room on Mother’s Day, but the restaurant’s owner, April Arellano, said that the health department’s threats weren’t going to stop her.

“We are so behind,” she said on Facebook. “We have complied for two months. We cannot make it on $200/day sales when 2 staff cost me $250 not counting, food, cost, utilities and rent.”

Now, Arellano has lost her license for at least the next 30 days, or until the Tri-County Health Department sees fit.

“It is disheartening that this restaurant has chosen to move ahead of the public orders and not even consider implementing best practices to prevent the spread of COVID-19,” said John Douglas Jr., the executive director of the Tri-County Health Department, in a statement, according to Colorado Public Radio.

“It is not fair to the rest of the community and other business owners that are following safer at home,” he said.

Videos of C&C Coffee and Kitchen this weekend showed a packed restaurant, and Polis blasted the customers for prioritizing their own interests over the well-being of the public. Polis added that he didn’t get to see his mother or take her out to lunch for Mother’s Day.

“I love my mom far too much to put her at risk by visiting a busy restaurant operating illegally just to take a selfie with omelets and a mimosa,” he said.

Arellano knew that the loss of her restaurant’s license was a risk when she reopened. But she said she didn’t care.

“If I lose the business at least I’m fighting,” she wrote on Facebook.

(Ben Sellers, Liberty Headlines) Amid growing evidence that former President Barack Obama approved a partisan FBI conspiracy to smear President Donald Trump and his advisors, current Democratic candidate Joe Biden, claimed to “know nothing” about it.

During an appearance on ABC’s Good Morning America, the former vice president took softballs from ex-Bill Clinton staffer George Stephanopoulos, but Biden refused to acknowledge any direct role in snaring former national security adviser Michael Flynn with a perjury trap in the very early days of the Trump presidency.

“I know nothing about those moves to investigate Michael Flynn, No. 1,” Biden claimed. “No. 2, this is a game that’s all about diversion.”

Instead of addressing the scandal, Biden desperately tried to stay on message, claiming—in what has become a familiar refrain throughout the course of his campaign—that any serious scrutiny of his own record was irrelevant and distracting.

“I mean this is—we have an economic crisis, we have a health crisis,” Biden said. “This is all about diverting attention. Focus on what’s in front of us.”

Meanwhile, he refused to focus on the question in front of him about the FBI abuses, downplaying the slow-burning controversy as a minor issue.

Trump “should stop trying to always divert attention from the real concerns of the American people,” Biden said.

The Deep State Feels the Heat

The allegations of corruption in the Obama-era FBI and other agencies may be among the greatest crises American democracy has ever faced.

Stephanopoulos asked Biden about a January 2017 Oval Office meeting during which FBI Director James Comey discussed the possibility of framing Flynn by using the using the antiquated Logan Act against him.

“I was aware that there was—that they asked for an investigation,” Biden conceded. “But that’s all I know about it.”

Flynn struck a plea deal during the Mueller investigation after corrupt FBI agent Peter Strzok stealth-edited documents to suggest he lied about his contact with a Russian diplomat.

But newly declassified evidence confirms that the FBI conspired to lure Flynn into a trap by withholding information from him, leading Attorney General William Barr to drop the charges.

The revelations are believed to signal one of the first steps toward completion of an extensive criminal probe by the Justice Department into the origins of the Russian collusion claims.

Biden, however, was in no rush to see special prosecutor John Durham conclude his investigation.

“You have plenty of time to investigate this issue,” he insisted. “I think there’s nothing there there, but it’s not a surprise that in fact the Justice Department decided anybody who was an ally of the president didn’t do anything wrong ever anyway.”

Gimme Shelter

Nor did Biden, who has been taking refuge in his basement after a series of campaign-trail blunders, seem particularly eager for the coronavirus quarantine to end.

With much of the country beginning to reopen after two months of media fearmongering and restrictive stay-at-home orders, Biden continued to milk the pandemic as a platform to launch his political attacks on Trump.

“The American people are worried with good reason,” Biden said. “… He hasn’t done his job. This is all about diverting attention. Divert attention from the horrible way in which he has acted.”

The diversion claim echoed several other attempts Biden has made to duck personal accountability on his own scandals—among them, the role he and his son Hunter played in a series of shady business deals with foreign countries including Ukraine and China.

Biden also has largely stonewalled over recent accusations of a 1993 sexual assault, despite growing calls for him to grant access to his Senate archives at the University of Delaware.

Stephanopoulos did not ask Biden about either issue of those scandals but allowed him to hammer Trump with vague talking points and deploy misleading claims about the health crisis.

“Think about this—look, can you imagine any other president of the United States focusing on this [the FBI scandal] at the moment when the country is just absolutely concerned about their health, the health of their children, the health of their families,” Biden said.

Unlike the Obama-era swine flu pandemic, in which more than a thousand young children died, very few children have been stricken by the coronavirus. Most of those who experience symptoms or die as a result of it are over the age of 65 or have pre-existing conditions that make them susceptible.

When asked what his own response to the pandemic would have been, Biden said it would simply be to follow the advice of “experts” like Coronavirus Task Force member Anthony Fauci.

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) “The View” co-host Sunny Hostin accused Dallas salon owner Shelley Luther of contributing to the uptick in COVID-19 cases in her state after Luther reopened her salon.

“Shelley, coronavirus cases are already rising in Texas and across the country where restrictions have been lifted, and you’re worried about your staff and your customers,” Hostin said. “I mean, I would assume you’re worried about your staff and your customers getting sick, since there’s now an uptick because of people not following the rules like yourself.”

Luther reopened her salon late last month, arguing that she could not afford to stay closed any longer and that her stylists needed to feed their families.

She was slapped with a cease-and-desist letter, which she tore up.

Then, she was arrested and sentenced to seven days in jail. Luther was released shortly thereafter, though, after Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and state Attorney General Ken Paxton intervened.

Hostin claimed that Luther could afford to stay closed, because she received aid from the federal government through small business loans and unemployment benefits.

“You received $18,000,” Hostin said. “I understand why people feel so strongly about going back to work because they feel that the government isn’t doing its job and taking care of people, but in this instance, two days before you went to court, the money went into your account. So I’m troubled by that.”

But Luther defended her decision to reopen, reminding Hostin that the data simply does not support a prolonged shutdown.

“What we need to look at is the number of deaths, if that is plateauing at all, and to make sure that we have room in our hospital beds,” Luther explained. “And Texas has plenty of room in their beds and are able to care for the people that need to come in at this time. As a matter of fact, there’s doctors and nurses getting furloughed because there’s not enough work.”

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., the ranking Republican on the House Intelligence Committee, said the FBI’s original interview summary with former national security adviser Michael Flynn—in which they claimed Flynn had perjured himself—is “missing.”

“The original report that was used to brief the United States Congress, that report is missing. It’s gone, poof, we can’t find it,” Nunes told Fox Business on Sunday.

Nunes said that he, along with several other congressional Republicans, had always disbelieved the narrative that Flynn lied to the FBI, because what the intelligence community officials told Congress in closed-door earrings was very different than what they said on television.

“Behind closed doors, they weren’t as tough as what they were out on the cable news networks, where they were getting paid to pontificate,” he explained. “And you see, when they’re on the chopping block and they can be busted for lying or misleading Congress, they got very, very weak.”

Several FBI officials even testified before Congress that “Flynn wasn’t lying,” Nunes said.

“So you can imagine my astonishment when it began to leak out in the press that General Flynn was being busted for lying to the FBI, and that’s what the Mueller team, the dirty Mueller team, that’s what they were going to bust him on,” he said.

But now Republicans can’t prove the “discrepancies” between the “on the record” testimony of FBI officials and Mueller’s report because the FBI’s original 302—meaning, the report in which Flynn is accused of lying to FBI officials—has vanished, Nunes said.

The report that remains has been “doctored” by FBI officials trying to cover their trail, Nunes said, which was made evident by text exchanges between disgraced “FBI lovebirds” Peter Strzok and Lisa Page.

“And that report—we know it was doctored, because the lovebirds—we have the text messages of them doctoring the report,” Nunes explained.

‘They’re treating the Michael Flynn story like it’s a bigger deal than the deaths of 2,000 Americans a day…’

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) CNN’s Brian Stelter accused Republicans and the conservative media for dedicating more time to their “obsession” with Gen. Michael Flynn than to the coronavirus pandemic.

“It’s so disappointing to look at what we’re seeing from right-wing media these days, where there is such an obsession with the deep state and these revelations about the Russia probe,” Stelter said on Sunday. “They’re treating the Michael Flynn story like it’s a bigger deal than the deaths of 2,000 Americans a day.”

The Justice Department announced last week that it would drop its criminal case against Flynn, President Donald Trump’s former national security adviser, after new evidence proved that FBI officials actively led Flynn into a perjury trap.

Covering this development is a “disgrace” to COVID-19 victims, Stelter claimed.

Stelter went on to rant that Republicans are “acting like this death toll is just normal.”

“Can you imagine if 1 to 2,000 Americans per day were dying from terror attacks? Imagine the president’s response,” he said.

Recent data analyses confirm that the media has spent the past two months vigorously covering the coronavirus pandemic.

In fact, this wall-to-wall coverage has earned criticism from many who believe it has contributed to undue public panic.

Stelter, however, would like you to think that he’s the only one concerned with this virus.

“In what right mind is any scandal, any political scandal, any Department of Justice story more important to ask the president about than the pandemic that’s raging,” he complained.

Of course, Stelter may have ulterior motives when it comes to deflecting away from the newly exposed evidence of a seditious FBI plot to frame Flynn and, by extension, Trump with patently false accusations of Russian collusion.

At the height of the left-wing media’s Russia feeding frenzy, CNN’s chief media analyst—a position equivalent to lead health inspector at a Twinkie factory—staked his reputation and credibility on claims advanced by the now-debunked Steele Dossier.

“What does Putin have on Trump? Has Trump been compromised,’” Stelter asked in a July 2018 broadcast, according to the Media Research Center. “All of those people, those experts, those reporters, they are looking at the fact pattern and seeing something strange, even sinister.”

WATCHDOG: Democrats Using COVID-19 to Push For Mail-In System w/'Massive' Voting Fraud

(Ben Sellers, Liberty Headlines) Even after the state of California had earlier concerns over vote-by-mail fraud flagged during its recent Democratic primary, the state proceeded with a mail-only special election that yielded predictably abysmal results.

California’s Election Integrity Project told Gov. Gavin Newsom prior to the May 12 special election that hundreds of voters received two or more ballots, opening the door for rampant fraud.

One of the races was to fill the House seat previously occupied by “throuple” Democrat Katie Hill, who was forced to resign in disgrace after her recent sex scandal.

A separate special election also was set to decide an open Senate seat in the state legislature.

In both cases, more than 700 duplicate registrants automatically received multiple ballots, according to VoteCal data that EIPCa relied upon in conducting its analysis.

In a pair of letters to voting officials, including California Secretary of State Alex Padilla, EIPCa explained that its “purpose is to provide this information so you can confirm its findings, prevent ineligible ballots from being counted and record ineligible ballots that were counted.”

They also sent copies of the letters to each of the affected candidates.

As well as discovering the duplicate ballots, EIPCa also noted dozens of instances of voters who had likely moved out of the district or whose age (in excess of 105) meant they were likely deceased.

And it found in the U.S. House race more than 11,000 inactive voters whose registrations had not been updated since Nov. 4, 2008, the date of former President Barack Obama’s first White House victory. Nearly a third of those inactive voters had never voted, in fact.

California automatically registers many of its residents to vote when they receive a driver’s license, despite the fact that it has in recent years allowed illegal immigrants to obtain licenses.

The state also has a history of fiercely resisting the requirements to update its voter rolls, as mandated by the National Voter Registration Act.

As part of a settlement last year in a suit brought by transparency watchdog Judicial Watch, the state agreed to clean up the records, including a purge of more than 1.5 million inactive voters. Among the eyebrow-raising complaints, it noted that Los Angeles County had 112 percent of its adult population registered to vote.

Nonetheless, the state has continued to push the boundaries of electoral propriety. In April, Padilla acknowledged in a letter to EIPCa President Linda Paine that it was investigating duplicate voters in the Super Tuesday primary.

The results indicated a disappointing finish for far-left candidate Bernie Sanders, who had hoped to gain ground in delegates against now-presumptive Democrat nominee Joe Biden.

President Donald Trump also questioned the state’s dubious voting practices after the official tally in the 2016 race indicated that his opponent, Hillary Clinton, had beaten him by some 2.8 million votes in the popular election.

Partisans on the Left have used the claim as a way to invalidate Trump’s presidency, as well as push for a national popular vote initiative.

That would effectively grant permanent majorities to Democrats and punish states that abide by federal mandates if blue states acting in bad faith continued to ignore the widespread election-integrity concerns.

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) A Colorado restaurant drew dozens of customers on Mother’s Day after it reopened in defiance of the state’s shelter-in-place orders.

The Castle Rock restaurant, C&C Coffee and Kitchen, reopened this weekend despite Gov. Jared Polis’s order requiring restaurants to limit their business to takeout and delivery.

April Arellano, the owner of the restaurant, said on Facebook that she reopened because she “would go out of businesses” if she didn’t.

“We are so behind,” she commented. “We have complied for two months. We cannot make it on $200/day sales when 2 staff cost me $250 not counting, food, cost, utilities and rent.”

Her reopening was met with a crowd of Coloradans eager to support the local business.

“So much for some of those people saying nobody would show up,” Arellano said in a Facebook Live video. “Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for the support, guys. I got to get back to work.”

Polis’s office blasted C&C Coffee and Kitchen in a statement this weekend, accusing Arellano of putting community members’ lives in danger.

“These restaurants are not only breaking the law, they are endangering the lives of their staff, customers, and community,” Shelby Wieman, Polis’s deputy press secretary, said, according to the Denver Post.

A spokeswoman for the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment said that violating Polis’s order by reopening is punishable by a fine of $1,000 or up to a year in jail.

She also said businesses that reopen in defiance of the state’s shelter-in-place order could lose their licenses to operate.

But Arellano said she doesn’t care. “If I lose the business at least I’m fighting,” she wrote on Facebook.
