The controversial convicted felon could soon benefit from President Donald Trump’s mercy in the form of a presidential pardon.
Trump said he is open to considering pardoning Cohen, his former personal attorney, when asked by reporters Wednesday afternoon.
Fielding questions from reporters at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, Trump said, “I’ve never been asked that question,” but added that “if everything is checking out, it’s something I’d consider.”

Cohen served nearly two years in federal prison after pleading guilty to eight criminal counts, including tax evasion, making false statements to a federally insured bank and campaign finance violations.
His legal troubles began during Robert Mueller’s special counsel investigation into so-called Russian meddling in the 2016 election.
Cohen went on to become a key witness in the New York civil and criminal investigations targeting Trump.
Specifically, New York Attorney General Letitia James used Cohen’s testimony in her civil lawsuit against the Trump Organization, while Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg relied on Cohen in the criminal case against Trump involving payments to Stormy Daniels.
Both James and Bragg are Democrats who had publicly vowed to investigate Trump even before they looked at the evidence.
In a Substack post, Cohen wrote that he felt “pressured and coerced” to provide damning information against Trump.

Cohen has also made amends with Trump and recently interviewed the president on his radio show. The former attorney has publicly said he is actively seeking clemency from Trump.
