(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Tyson Timbs, the 37-year-old Indiana resident who won his case before the Supreme Court last year, has finally had his vehicle returned to him after the state government seized his $40,000 Land Rover when they arrested him for selling $400 worth of heroin.
This seizure was unnecessary and excessive, according to the Supreme Court, which ruled that Timbs has a right to “the protection against excessive fines.”
An Indiana trial court upheld this ruling earlier this year and ordered the state to return Timbs’s vehicle. And it did: nearly seven years after his arrest, Timbs arrived home one day to find his Land Rover in his driveway.
“It was a weird feeling today. I didn’t believe that the vehicle would be mine again until I got home and saw it in my driveway,” Timbs said.
The Indiana attorney general is appealing the trial court’s decision, but while that appeal is debated the vehicle will remain with Timbs, according to the Institute for Justice.
The attorney general’s appeal will likely be unsuccessful, since Timbs has already proven “by a significant margin” that his crime did not match his punishment, according to Judge Jeffrey Todd, who ordered the state to return his vehicle earlier this year.
“The State sought forfeiture of [Timbs’s] only asset; an asset he purchased using life insurance proceeds rather than drug money, and a tool essential to maintaining employment, obtaining treatment, and reducing the likelihood that he would ever again commit another criminal offense,” Todd wrote in his opinion.
The state’s continued determination to take Timbs’s vehicle away proves just how “relentless” the state’s “forfeiture machine” is, said IJ senior attorney Wesley Hottot.
It is “a profoundly unjust exercise of power,” he said, and “one of the greatest threats to property rights in the nation today.”

(Joshua Paladino, Liberty Headlines) Newly released emails prove that Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer lied when she said that she did not know about her administration’s contract-tracing agreement with a Democratic consulting firm.
Andrea Taverna, a senior adviser in the Michigan Department of the Health and Human Services, said the governor’s office gave “the green light … to move forward with a slightly different organizational arrangement of the contact tracing volunteer work,” BridgeMI reported.
The MDHHS signed the contract on April 20 with Great Lakes Community Engagement, which then funneled the money to Every Action VAN, a left-wing company that manages voter-contact software platforms.
Mike Kolehouse, a Democratic campaign consultant, owns the nonprofit GLCE.
“This would still be working with Mike Kolehouse, so work there isn’t lost—it’s just organized somewhat differently,” Taverna said.
Whitmer’s administration backed away from the contract on April 21, after Republicans criticized Whitmer for sending state money to political allies, who could use the contract tracing to bolster campaign operations for Democratic candidates.
Taverna said the state decided not to sign the $194,250 contract with Kolehouse Strategies, which was already working “pro bono” for the state, but instead opted to sign the contract with Great Lakes Community Engagement.
She described GLCE as a “separate business entity that serves nonprofit and corporate clients, though owned and staffed by the same individuals” as Kolehouse Strategies.
GLCE does not have an online presence, but Kolehouse Strategies does have one, and its website clearly indicates its intention to “elect progressive candidates.”
Whitmer continues to deny her involvement in the contract, saying that the MDHHS and the Michigan Public Health Institute “identified and ultimately approved” the contract.
The governor’s spokesperson, Tiffany Brown, said the email actually shows Whitmer’s worries about paying a Democratic consulting firm to collect data on Michigan’s citizens.
“Based on a previous phone conversation, the governor’s communications director had raised concerns that using a political vendor would be a distraction from the important work that needed to be done,” Brown said.

(Ben Sellers, Liberty Headlines) Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam doubled down on his hypocrisy with an authoritarian decree that all citizens of the commonwealth be required to wear face masks during the coronavirus shutdown.
It comes only days after Northam was publicly shamed in viral photos that showed him hobnobbing with supporters at Virginia Beach while abjectly failing to social-distance himself or wear a mask.
In response, Liberty University President Jerry Falwell Jr. razzed the radical leftist with a mask that symbolized Northam’s most notorious scandal to date: a racist medical-school yearbook photo that showed the future governor and companion posing in blackface and Ku Klux Klan regalia.

It was not immediately clear if Falwell genuinely planned to market the masks or where they would be available for purchase.
Northam spokesperson Alena Yarmosky addressed the Twitter smack-down by saying “The Office of the Governor will not dignify that tweet with a response,” reported WFIR.
Falwell, an ardent supporter of President Donald Trump, has been a vocal critic of Northam’s lockdown orders.
However, the Christian conservative leader faced an attack himself recently after purported journalists from New York Times and the George Soros-funded Pro-Publica attempted to smear Liberty University for allowing students back onto its campus.
The outlets falsely claimed that members of the Liberty community had contracted coronavirus as the result of the actions.
Falwell responded by filing a police complaint for trespassing against Julia Rendleman and Alec MacGillis, the two activist–reporters.
Northam, who was elected on a “moderate” platform in 2017, quickly tipped his hand to reveal his radical tendencies, creating a scandal by suggesting that he would support abortions even after a baby was born.

He flouted near universal calls to resign amid the subsequent yearbook scandal, admitting that he had worn blackface but denying that he was either of the unidentified individuals on his yearbook page.
Northam bizarrely claimed that the photo, which was prominently featured on his page, was put there by mistake.
Shockingly, many on the Left, including the Times and sympathetic media outlets proceeded to bury the story after the state’s Democratic lieutenant governor and attorney general also became immersed in their own scandals. That threatened to turn control of the state over to the Republican leader of the House of Delegates, Kirk Cox.
None of the three top Democrats ultimately faced any meaningful consequences for their respective scandals, which included a pair of serious rape allegations against Lt. Gov. Justin Fairfax.
But in return for their support, an activist group called the Virginia Black Politicos delivered to Northam a laundry list of extortionist demands.
With the help of mega-donors like Soros and Michael Bloomberg, Democrats retook the state legislature in the state’s 2019 election and proceeded to enact the far-left agenda this year.
The VEXIT movement that Falwell referenced in his tweet was previously floated after conservative counties took exception to the state’s proposed anti-gun measures.
Falwell—who resides in Lynchburg, in the southwest part of the state—voiced his support for the movement in January after rallies drew thousands of protestors in the state capital of Richmond.
“What’s happening in Virginia right now is a tragedy in the making,” Falwell said. “Democratic leaders in Richmond, through their elitism and radicalism, have left a nearly unrecognizable state in their wake.”
Nonetheless, Northam signed many of the bills into law during the current coronavirus lockdowns, when his executive orders effectively barred further protests.

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Failed comic Kathy Griffin on Tuesday suggested that someone should plunge an air-filled syringe in President Donald Trump, a procedure that would cause his death.
Reacting to a tweet about from CNN White House correspondent Jim Acosta that quotes Trump saying he might start taking insulin, Griffin said: “Syringe with nothing but air inside it would do the trick.”

In medical procedures, air is sometimes accidentally injected into the body’s bloodstream through syringes or IVs. This can cause air embolisms, a dangerous blockage of blood vessels that can be caused by air bubbles. Embolisms are often fatal, which Griffin clearly knows.
This isn’t the first time Griffin has advocated for Trump’s death. In 2017, she posed with a bloody prop of Trump’s severed heads, prompting a visit form the Secret Service, according to her lawyers. Online users were quick to point out that Griffin’s latest threat will likely result in another visit from the Secret Service.

(Ben Sellers, Liberty Headlines) Just as blue-state governors used the coronavirus panic to implement a massive authoritarian power-grab and a bad-faith scheme for mail-in elections, Twitter used its own false pretenses in a desperate effort to hobble the plan’s biggest threat.
The virtue-signaling social-media giant announced following a sustained leftist pressure campaign that it would begin issuing fact checks on tweets by President Donald Trump.
Although the policy came, ostensibly, over a tweet that claimed MSNBC host Joe Scarborough had murdered his former mistress, they eagerly slapped the qualifier onto Trump’s tweets about vote fraud, as well, perpetuating a common trope in the partisan mainstream media, despite clear—and mounting—evidence to contradict their claims.
There is NO WAY (ZERO!) that Mail-In Ballots will be anything less than substantially fraudulent. Mail boxes will be robbed, ballots will be forged & even illegally printed out & fraudulently signed. The Governor of California is sending Ballots to millions of people, anyone…..
In a series of tweets, White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany publicly fact-checked the false Twitter claim, much to the disdain of some liberal journalists, who proceeded to circle the wagons.

But even other left-leaning outlets, such as Business Insider, subsequently felt obliged to call out the fact that Twitter’s fact check was, itself, misleading after the site claimed “no evidence” of vote fraud.
While downplaying the scope of the concerns, Business Insider acknowledged there was “a significant difference between saying that mail-in ballots are ‘very rarely linked to voter fraud’ and saying there’s ‘no evidence mail-in ballots are linked to voter fraud,'” the latter of which Twitter falsely claimed.
“Twitter juxtaposing those two conflicting statements could ultimately cause more confusion than it helps readers find the real facts,” it said.
But there is, in fact, abundant evidence of vote fraud linked to absentee ballots, as well as plenty of other worries about the chaos that the Left hopes to sow in its mail-in-ballot scam.
Even as Twitter was trying to make the claim, two states publicly raised new alarms about their recent attempts to conduct mail-in elections.
In Maryland, which is scheduled to hold a June 2 mail-only primary, officials ordered that about 3.5 million ballots be sent automatically to all residents.
But around a million voters had reported receiving the ballots late—or not at all—and only around 461,000 completed ballots had been returned, according to the Washington Post.
Even left-wingers, such as state NAACP President Kobi Little admitted that the administrative failures would impact the upcoming election to decide important races such as the Baltimore mayor, city council, and all eight members of the state delegation for the U.S. House of Representatives.
Moreover, it followed an earlier “practice run” in April during the special election to fill the seat of the late Rep. Elijah Cummings.
“This fiasco was avoidable,” Little said. “We will experience some voter suppression because of all the mistakes that were made.”
State officials blamed an outside vendor but said they would be unable to conduct a full audit until after the primary.

Meanwhile in Nevada—potentially a key battleground state in November’s upcoming presidential election, the state’s former attorney general, Adam Laxalt, denounced a disastrous effort that resulted in 200,000 ballots getting mailed to inactive voters in Las Vegas.
“[W]e have no way to know if these are going to lead to massive voter fraud, and they continue to sue to get rid of signature verifications and to enact the California-styleballot harvesting right here in Nevada,” warned Laxalt, currently outside counsel for the nonprofit Americans for Public Trust, in an appearance Tuesday on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News broadcast.
Appropriately, other issues recently have arisen in California, where a state watchdog, the Election Integrity Project, reported that the state had mailed nearly 800 duplicate ballots in its most recent election, to fill the open congressional seat vacated by disgraced freshman Rep. Katie Hill following the Democratic congresswoman’s notorious sex scandal.
Other problems were reported in a recent Wisconsin election, where a post-mortem analysis showed that the post office in Chicago had failed to deliver several large tubs full of completed ballots, effectively disfranchising thousands of voters.
And syndicated columnist Deroy Murdock, a Liberty Headlines contributor, revealed that he had received in the mail six discarded ballots from Colorado’s primary that were collected and sent to him by concerned voters.
Like Nevada, both Colorado and Wisconsin are also important battleground states heading into November.

(Ben Sellers, Liberty Headlines) One of President Donald Trump’s former lead attorneys on Tuesday shed new light as to why special counsel Robert Mueller chose not to pursue obstruction of justice charges in his Russia collusion probe: because Mueller knew it was a set-up.
John Dowd said Mueller’s attempted perjury trap of the president closely mirrored the one that recently declassified FBI notes revealed was used against former national security adviser Michael Flynn in a January 2017 interrogation.
“It was a monstrous lie and scheme to defraud,” Dowd said of the special counsel’s attempt to lure Trump into a phony deposition.
Dowd told Fox News contributor Gregg Jarrett that, in both cases, the corrupt interrogators had little pretext for conducting the requested interviews.
They hoped, instead, to entrap their victims into committing crimes by saying something that might then be construed as a lie.
“Mueller’s scheme was the same one captured in the FBI set-up notes pertaining to Flynn,” Dowd said. “They knew they had nothing, but using their official power they created and perpetuated the facade of an investigation.”
Also like the Flynn case—in which FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe and agents Peter Strzok and Joe Pientka attempted to catch Flynn off-guard by deploying a false sense of collegiality toward their unwitting victim—Dowd said that Mueller was not always what he seemed.
“As I look back, we had the most perfect trusting relationship with Mueller based on his word and handshake, which held throughout,” Dowd said. “No paper. Word was solid.”
However, the former FBI director, whose impartiality and fairness were widely heralded at the time, knew exactly what his objectives were.
Mueller, the immediate predecessor and close personal friend of disgraced former FBI Director James Comey, brazenly proceeded with the plot against the president, despite every overture that the Trump White House made to cooperate with the probe.
“They received everything they asked for without a hitch or page missing, including the most intimate notes of conversations with and by POTUS,” Dowd said.
“Every witness they requested testified truthfully,” he continued. “No lying. No grand jury testimony. Mueller affirmed all of this in our March 5 [2018] meeting. How could there be a whisper of obstruction under these circumstances?”
In Trump’s case, though, the very fact that the president refused to play ball by granting an in-person interview—having learned a lesson from Flynn’s framing—became yet another basis for the obstruction charge against him.
That charge originally had been liked to Trump’s May 2017 firing of Comey, even though it was a legitimate exercise of the president’s constitutional authority.

But the indignation of being publicly rebuffed by the president only fueled Mueller’s team of biased prosecutors to stack the deck even more.
“They acted like crybabies who were offended that someone dared to criticize them, so they instinctively labeled it obstruction,” Dowd told Jarrett in an interview last year. “It was insane.”
The revelations since, indicating that Comey likely spearheaded the potentially criminal and seditious plot against Trump and his advisors, have only validated further the reasoning for his removal.
The Justice Department is currently conducting a criminal probe into the actions of the Obama intelligence community, led by special prosecutor John Durham, and some have speculated that Comey may face indictment when the probe concludes this summer.
Dowd told Jarrett that documents from the Mueller probe also raise questions as to whether Trump may have been justified in firing and replacing the special counsel.
Mueller likely knew from early in his probe that there was no evidence to substantiate the collusion claims, but he continued to milk the hollow investigation for two years, at a cost of more than $30 million in tax dollars.
Democrats used the false narrative heavily in their fundraising and campaigning for the 2018 midterm election, which helped them to retake the majority in the House of Representatives.
A day after Mueller’s July 2019 House testimony made clear that the prospects of Russian collusion were dim, the Democrats immediately proceeded to entrap Trump in a new scheme, claiming he abused his power during a phone call with the Ukrainian president.
That ultimately enabled them to fulfill their campaign promise of impeachment, although Trump was acquitted by the Senate.
The distractions of the Democrats’ largely partisan impeachment trial in January and February of this year cost precious time and created a climate of divisiveness on Capitol Hill that hindered the government’s ability to prepare for and respond to the coronavirus pandemic.
Yet, despite the Mueller report showing no underlying Russian collusion to predicate the investigation—and with indisputable evidence that Obama officials were, in fact, responsible for orchestrating the hoax—House Democrats have continued to pursue the baseless obstruction claim as a potential avenue for an impeachment do-over.
House Judiciary Chair Jerrold Nadler, D-NY, recently pressed for unredacted transcripts of witness’s grand-jury testimony from the Mueller probe until a Supreme Court decision last week shot him down.

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) After Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer’s husband was caught trying to leverage his political position in asking for the installation of his boat to be sped up last week, Whitmer defended his request on Tuesday as a “failed attempt at humor.”
“Knowing it wouldn’t make a difference, he jokingly asked if being married to me might move him up,” Whitmer said of her husband, Marc Mallory, during a press conference. “He regrets it. I wish it wouldn’t have happened. And that’s really all we have to say about it.”
A northern Michigan dock owner, Tad Dowker, said in a Facebook post last week that Mallory had asked the dock if he could get his boat in the water before Memorial Day weekend.
Dowker’s employees informed Mallory that they had a long list of clients they needed to work through, and that Mallory’s request would not be possible.
Mallory then replied, “I am the husband to the governor, will this make a difference?” according to Dowker’s now-deleted Facebook post.
Critics were quick to point out that the dock Mallory stored his boat in is located near Traverse City, Mich., which has begun to reopen.
That means Mallory planned to travel from Lansing to Traverse City during Memorial Day weekend, despite the fact that Whitmer had warned Michiganders against doing that exact thing just a few days prior.
“If you don’t live in these regions … think long and hard before you take a trip into them,” Whitmer said on May 18. “Don’t descend on Traverse City from all regions of the state.”
When asked why her husband was allowed to flout the rules, Whitmer claimed that he was only going up to their Traverse City home “for a night or two” to “rake the leaves.”
Well, if that’s the case, then why did he need his boat in the water before Memorial Day weekend?
“Using your wife’s political office to score favors is not a laughing matter,” said Michigan Republican Party Chair Laura Cox. “The only joke here is that Governor Whitmer doesn’t seem to understand how serious it is for a family member to misuse your office.”

(Joshua Paladino, Liberty Headlines) The director of the 2016 Ghostbusters, which featured an all-female cast, said the anti-Hillary movement contributed to the movie’s box-office failure.
“I think some really brilliant author needs to write a book about 2016 and how intertwined we were with Hillary and the anti-Hillary movement,” Paul Feig said on Jess Cagle’s SiriusXM show, the Independent reported.
The attempted reboot of the 1980s comedy classic starred Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Kate McKinnon and Leslie Jones. It earned positive reviews from critics but a terrible reception from audiences.
The movie got a 74 percent on Rotten Tomatoes. Movie-goers gave the movie a 50 percent.
Before the movie premiered, Feig said “a movie like this has to at least get to like $500m worldwide, and that’s probably low.”
The movie earned $229.1 million. Ghostbusters needed to earn $300 million to break even, resulting in about a $70-million loss.
“It’s crazy how people got nuts about women trying to be empowered or be in positions they weren’t normally in, and it was an ugly, ugly year,” Feig said.
After blaming the movie’s shortfall on misogyny, Feig said the movie could have also suffered because America had a black president.
“Everyone was at a boiling point,” he said. “I don’t know if it was having an African–American president for eight years that they were teed up, they were just ready to explode.”
Feig said opposition to the movie began as soon as he announced it.
President Donald Trump criticized the movie reboot for having “only women.”
Soon after Sony Pictures uploaded the Ghostbusters trailer to YouTube, it became the most-disliked movie trailer on the video-sharing website, with more than 1 million dislikes. About 300,000 people have liked the trailer.

(Michael Barnes, Liberty Headlines) Former CBS News president Van Gordon Sauter thinks the mainstream news media has passed the point of no return, and his solution is for politically biased news organizations to stop pretending to be neutral truth-tellers.
“There’s probably no way to seal the gap between the media and a large segment of the public. The media likes what it is doing. Admires it. Celebrates it. There is no personal, professional or financial reason to change. If anything, the gap will expand,” he said.
Sauter, who used to praise the likes of former CBS Evening News anchor Dan Rather and far-left political commentator Bill Moyers, took to the editorial pages of the Wall Street Journal on Sunday to express his doubts about the so-called Fourth Estate.
He claimed the media’s left-wing lurch has actually lagged behind other progressive cultural strongholds, such as universities, Hollywood, upscale magazines and the literary world. Only late-night talk shows have belatedly descended into political shamelessness with the news media.
Objectivity, balance and fairness, which Sauter said was “once the gold standard of reporting,” are no longer valued as mandatory principals of modern journalism.
Instead, journalists believe America is severely flawed and they’re committed to correcting it, he said.
“Much of journalism has become the clarion voice of the ‘resistance,’ dedicated to ousting the president, even though he was legally elected and, according to the polls, enjoys the support of about 44% of likely 2020 voters,” wrote Sauter.
“How will a large segment of the public ever put stock in journalism it considers hostile to the country’s best interests?” he asked.
In addition to the media’s self-righteous indignation and messianic complex, another motivation for extreme liberal bias has been economic reward.
Previously, alienating readers due to sloppy reporting and thinly veiled political attacks disguised as fact-based journalism, let alone outright fabrications, would have led to a critical loss of credibility and financial ruin.
But that is no longer the case, Sauter explained.
Anti-Trump activism, combined with liberal billionaire support, has proven commercially viable.
In fact, pivoting back toward honest journalism would likely cause negative financial repercussions now that media has painted itself into a corner.
“The news media seems very comfortable with its product and ability to sell it,” he concluded.

(Joshua Paladino, Liberty Headlines) Hundreds of President Donald Trump’s supporters flooded Charleston, SC harbor on Sunday for a MAGA boat parade, The Post and Courier reported.
On the Facebook page that was used to organize the event, more than 700 people said they were attending and more than 1,000 said they were interested.
“We’ve heard a thousand [boats], we heard 1,500, we’ve heard an actual count of 1,358,” said Randall Horres, of Johns Island.
Charleston Sailing Charters said the line of boats extended for more than 5 miles.
The Charleston Police Department estimated that there were only about 700 to 800 boats, according to public information officer Charles Francis.
Horres said the event celebrated the United States, and didn’t focus on political divisions.
“It was a great thing to have to show support for America and the commander-in chief, taking the politics out of it,” Horres said, adding that it was “very upbeat.”
“There was no negativity,” he said.
He said the boaters joined in prayer together over the radio before they set off.
Boaters flew Trump 2020 “Keep America Great” flags, Gadsden “Don’t Tread on Me” flags, and American flags as they sailed past hundreds of onlookers.
One woman held up a sign in response to the coronavirus lockdowns that said, “If we followed rules, we’d still be British. Liberty is essential,” The Hill reported.
Former Charleston County Republican Party Chairman John Steinberger said he watched the boaters from the shore.
“It was organized; it was grass roots,” he said. “People showed up to support the best president in my lifetime.”
A Trump-supporting husband and wife, Skip and Debi McQuillin, joined the event despite their reservations about the number of boaters on the river.
“When we saw the magnitude of it, we couldn’t believe it,” McQuillin said. “With so many boats in a small area and not knowing what to expect, but everybody seemed very polite, you know, very courteous. We didn’t see any problems at all.”
The outpouring of support via boating was just the most recent, and apparently the largest, of similar recent celebratory demonstrations on the waters of America. Trump supporters conducted a MAGA parade on May 3 in Jupiter, Fla.:
