(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Presidential candidate Joe Biden said on Thursday that 10-15% of the American public are just “not very good people.”

Speaking during a virtual town hall with young Americans, Biden addressed George Floyd’s death and the Black Lives Matter movement, arguing that the U.S. needs to take seriously the allegations of racial prejudice and police brutality.

“Do we really think this is as good as we can be as a nation? I don’t think the vast majority of people think that,” the former vice president added. “There are probably anywhere from 10 to 15 percent of the people out there that are just not very good people, but that’s not who we are.”

Biden’s comment was reminiscent of failed presidential candidate Hillary Clinton’s claim that half of Trump supporters deserved to be relegated to a “basket of deplorables.”

The presumptive Democrat nominee, who faced widespread criticism recently for his own racist gaffe, went on to blast Trump for using the Oval Office to sow division.

“The words a president says matter, so when a president stands up and divides people all the time, you’re going to get the worst of us to come out,” he said.

Critics were quick to point out how hypocritical Biden’s comments were considering his campaign’s overarching message of “unity.”

(Joshua Paladino, Liberty Headlines) A Maryland District Court ruled last week that Montgomery County’s efforts to pay illegal aliens $10 million in cash likely violates federal law and causes irreparable harm to taxpayers, reported Judicial Watch, the group that filed the lawsuit.

Judge Peter Messitte denied Judicial Watch’s plea for a temporary restraining order, but he granted a hold on 25 percent of the program’s remaining funds until the court concludes further evaluation of the case.
So far, Messitte said Judicial Watch may prevail.
“Based on an analysis of the federal statute alone, the Court concludes that Plaintiffs have demonstrated a strong likelihood of success on the merits,” Messitte wrote for the court’s opinion.
JW originally filed the lawsuit on May 13 in the Montgomery County Circuit Court for taxpayers Sharon Bauer and Richard Jurgena. The lawsuit has since moved to federal court.
The lawsuit seeks to prevent Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich and Raymond Crowel, director of its Health and Human Services Department, from sending taxpayer money to illegal aliens.
“This court ruling pushes back on the abuse by county officials who want to send taxpayer coronavirus money to illegal aliens in violation of federal law,” said JW President Tom Fitton.
The county’s Emergency Assistance Relief Payment Program provides $500 to single illegal aliens, $1,000 per family with one child, and $150 for each additional child up to $1,450.

Fitton said Montgomery County does not have the authority to send taxpayer money to non-citizens.
Federal law prohibits illegal aliens from receiving state benefits from state or local governments.
“The coronavirus challenge doesn’t give politicians a pass to violate the law,” he said.
“If politicians want to use tax money from law-abiding taxpayers and send cash payments to illegal aliens, they must be accountable and transparent, and, as federal law requires, pass a state law to do so.”
JW said the Maryland State Legislature must pass a law that gives Montgomery County officials the authority to pay illegal aliens.

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) A federal appeals court ruled on Thursday that Texans cannot request mail-in voting ballots simply because of coronavirus-related concerns.

The 5th Circuit Court of Appeals unanimously blocked a ruling from a federal judge last month that would have allowed Texas voters to request absentee ballots if they did not want to vote in person due to the coronavirus.

In his opinion, the judge argued that the “spread of the virus has not given ‘unelected federal judges’ a roving commission to rewrite state election codes.”

There’s a reason Texas requires in-person voting, said Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, and that reason is the legitimate threat of voter fraud that accompanies widespread mail-in voting.

“Allowing universal mail-in ballots, which are particularly vulnerable to fraud, would only lead to greater election fraud and disenfranchise lawful voters,” Paxton said in a statement.

Texas Democrats have been trying to expand the state’s mail-in voting system, using the coronavirus pandemic as an excuse to do so.

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa responded to the 5th Circuit’s ruling and claimed that “the option to vote by mail” should be considered a right.

“The Constitution prohibits divvying up our rights by our age, gender, or race,” he said. “Judges are obviously disagreeing with one another about this important issue. Ultimately, we’re going to need direction from the U.S. Supreme Court.”

Paxton, however, said the Democrats’ disagreement is unwarranted: “The law is pretty clear,” he said. “It doesn’t allow for people to get mail-in ballots for fear of coronavirus or anything else, fear of being hit by a car on the way to vote. We trust our voters to do the right thing.”

(Joshua Paladino, Liberty Headlines) Washington D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser forced National Guard members from 10 states to leave their hotel rooms on Friday morning, prompting Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, to call her an “ungrateful mayor.”
Bowser said she wants the National Guard to leave the district, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.
“If Mayor Bowser has a problem with President Trump she should take it up with him, not take it out on National Guard personnel in the middle of a dangerous deployment in her city,” Lee said, according to a press release.
When National Guard members returned to their hotel rooms at 3 a.m. after a night of protecting the city from vandalism, arson, looting, rioting and violence, they were told that they had to leave.
Lee announced Bowser’s decision on Twitter late last night.


The Utah National Guard sent Green Berets earlier this week to aid in containing the chaos, Military.com reported.
Lee’s spokesman Conn Carroll said National Guard members had to leave their hotels by 12 p.m. Eastern Time this morning and that their housing plans are “still up in the air for this evening.”
“This is a political choice by the mayor’s office to cancel a contract for lodging between D.C. and the Guard,” Carroll said.
By Friday afternoon Maj. Jaime Thomas said the troops had made arrangements at another hotel for the night, according to Fox News.
Bowser sent a letter to President Donald Trump following her decision to end the state of emergency in Washington, D.C.


Bowser questioned Trump’s authority to send troops to the District of Columbia on Wednesday during a press conference, MSN reported.
The executive branch has unilateral authority to stop domestic insurrection and preserve republican government in extraordinary cases.

(Joshua Paladino, Liberty Headlines) Attorney General Bill Barr said Thursday that new evidence shows that extremist groups—including Antifa, anarchists other “foreign actors”—have instigated mob violence, arson and looting across America’s major cities, Fox News reported.
Barr said “three different sets of actors” currently occupy the streets: peaceful protesters, opportunistic looters and “extremist agitators that hijack protests.”
FBI Director Christopher Wray said “these individuals have set out to sow discord and upheaval.”
Neither Barr nor Wray mentioned Black Lives Matter, the violent neo-Marxist organization that seeks to divide Americans on the basis of their skin color in order to institute a socialist economic, social and political agenda.
Barr said the groups that are inciting violence are professional and coordinated in their efforts to push the United States toward civil war.
John Miller, New York’s deputy commissioner for intelligence and counterterrorism, described the preparations that Antifa and Black Lives Matter made for their insurrection, NBC News reported.
“No. 1, before the protests began, organizers of certain anarchist groups set out to raise bail money and people who would be responsible to be raising bail money,” Miller said.
The groups—which are linked with wealthy donors including George Soros and Colin Kaepernick—also recruited medics and medical teams and supplied them with gear to be deployed in violent interactions with police.
The militarized demonstrators even have their own version of a cavalry brigade, Miller said.
“They developed a complex network of bicycle scouts to move ahead of demonstrators in different directions of where police were and where police were not for purposes of being able to direct groups from the larger group to places where they could commit acts of vandalism,” he said, “including the torching of police vehicles and Molotov cocktails where they thought officers would not be.”
For all the group’s initiative, though, there remained little to admire about the thuggish activists.
Undercover conservative watchdog Project Veritas bravely infiltrated an Antifa group and pulled back the curtain in a newly released exposé, which noted that they “practice things like an eye gouge” as part of their training regimen.
“It takes very little pressure to injure someone’s eyes,” noted the undercover journalist.

Twitter Censors Trump Campaign, Removes Video Tribute to George Floyd

(Claire Russel, Liberty Headlines) Twitter censored President Donald Trump’s reelection campaign on Thursday by removing a video tribute to George Floyd and claiming it violated the company’s copyright policy.

The Team Trump account shared the four-minute video, in which the president commemorated the “grave tragedy” that was Floyd’s death.

The video shows peaceful protesters mourning Floyd’s death, and then Trump warns against the “violence and anarchy” that “radical left-wing groups” are trying to stir up in Floyd’s name.

Twitter took the video down, and now Team Trump’s tweet displays a message that says, “This media has been disabled in response to a report by the copyright owner.”

The social-media platform did not tell Team Trump who made the complaint or which part of the video ran afoul of the copyright policy, but Andrew Clark, a spokesman for the Trump campaign, said that it is obvious this is just the latest effort by Twitter to silence Trump.

“This incident is yet another reminder that Twitter is making up the rules as they go along,” Clark said, according to The Hill. “Twitter has repeatedly failed to explain why their rules seem to only apply to the Trump campaign but not to others.”

Following a pressure campaign by several left-wing pundits, led by MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski, Twitter has become increasingly hostile toward the president.

Last week, it began placing “fact checks” on tweets with which the company disagrees, although in some cases the “corrected” information has been equally or more misleading. It also accused the president, without evidence, of sharing “violent” material.

In response, Trump introduced an executive order that would curb much of the publishing freedom Twitter currently enjoys by reaffirming the regulatory guidelines of the Bill Clinton-era Communications Decency Act.

The measure would limit what types of material online platforms may arbitrarily censor before losing their status as content producers, thereby subjecting them to broader defamation liabilities.

“In a country that has long cherished the freedom of expression, we cannot allow a limited number of online platforms to hand-pick the speech that Americans may access and convey online,” the executive order reads.

(Joshua Paladino, Liberty Headlines) Looters shot out the windows of a café in downtown Raleigh while patrons were eating and then they stole cases of wine, WRAL reported.
“During dinner, we still had people seated in the restaurant,” said Parker Kennedy, owner of Caffe Luna.
“They had a potato gun and a big chunk of asphalt in it, I mean this big, that big, and they shot it through the window and projected into the restaurant about 25 feet,” she said. “Of course, the customers are terrified, obviously.”
The rioters in downtown Raleigh caused similar damages to numerous other businesses.
North Carolina‘s restaurants were beginning to open for the first time after Gov. Roy Cooper, a Democrat, began to lift the house arrest and business shutdown orders that he imposed on the state.
Kennedy said the 8 p.m. curfew will prevent her from serving dinner at the restaurant.
Meanwhile she’s cleaning up the mess that the rioters, looters, and vandals caused her.
“They broke out about 10 windows and later in the evening, they went into those windows and got some wine, cases of wine,” Kennedy said.
Tyler Helikson, the CEO and co-founder of Happy + Hale, said his business was targeted two nights in a row.
“Four or five windows had been absolutely smashed out,” he said.
Helikson said rioters have not attacked his business since Raleigh put the curfew in place.
He defended the rioters because he can replace what he’s lost.
“Yes it’s frustrating, but that pales in comparison to what the black community has been going through for centuries, and it’s really hard for me to be mad about glass that can be replaced and insurance can cover when there’s such deeper issues in this country,” Helikson said.

NC Gov. Roy Cooper Refuses to Open Famed Amusement Park

(Michael Barnes, Liberty Headlines) Carowinds amusement park offers the perfect combination of fun and safety for people eager to venture outside after months of Wuhan virus-related home confinement.

But North Carolina’s Democratic Gov. Roy Cooper is dragging his feet.

Since 1973, part of the Carowinds charm has been that the park straddles the North­ Carolina–South Carolina state line.

In anticipation of summer, South Carolina Gov. Henry McMaster, a Republican, announced two weeks ago that all amusement parks in the Palmetto State, including his side of Carowinds, can reopen.

But Cooper wouldn’t budge.

The North Carolina Department of Labor inspected its side of Carowinds in March, and in a meeting on Tuesday the Labor Department’s commissioner, Cherie Berry, said that the park can tentatively open on July 27.

“Are you in favor of that?” Berry prodded the governor.

It was the first time any reopening date had been mentioned this year.

“It is early to predict whether that can occur,” Cooper retorted.

Cooper is one of the few governors still clinging to strict coronavirus shutdown policies.

He recently traded tense words with President Donald Trump, who demanded assurances that the Republican National Convention due to take place in Charlotte could proceed as normal. But Cooper refused to make any promises, prompting Trump to enter into discussions with other venue alternatives.

Cooper has also come under fire this week after a contested public records request revealed that he only gave North Carolina’s ten Council of State members 30 minutes to consent to his strict March 17 executive order that closed bars and restaurants statewide.

Many states, even those with Democratic governors, have begun issuing looser restrictions as widespread race-riots make social distancing and curfews tactically unenforceable.

Like other local leaders, Cooper had no problem turning a blind eye to recent protests in the state capital of Raleigh. In fact, he further placed himself in the spotlight recently by participating in a Black Lives Matter activist march instead of conducting official state business.

While it’s unclear when Carowinds reopen, new health regulations will apply.

Visitors will be expected to submit to health checks from park workers and fill out government compliance health forms.

A press release from the park’s parent company said that visitors will have to make reservations, including a specific day and time of arrival, as well as departure.

Park officials are also working with state officials to develop a mobile app that will direct people to hand sanitizers and limited capacity restrooms. Cashless payment methods will be expected to avoid sharing paper money or using credit or debit card touchscreens.

(Joshua Paladino, Liberty Headlines) Megachurch Pastor Chris Hodges submitted to the mob multiple times this week by apologizing for liking the social media posts of Charlie Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA.
Hodges, who founded the Church of the Highlands in Alabama, which has 60,000 members, apologized after a Birmingham school teacher, who doesn’t attend the church, insinuated that he is a racist, Fox News reported.
Jasmine Faith Clisby said she isn’t “judging” Hodges or “saying he’s racist” but he “likes someone who posts things that do not seem culturally sensitive to me,” AL.com reported.
“Some saw something on social media that questioned my character, and, I’ll own it, by the way, but that is not what I believe, and it is not what we teach. And I understand how this has made you feel and I apologize,” Hodges said.
He did not explain how the conservative posts impinged his character.
“Racism, bigotry, prejudice exists. It’s real and it’s of the devil. White supremacy or any supremacy other than Christ is of the devil,” he said.
Hodges liked Kirk’s posts that said white privilege is a myth.
He liked a meme with a picture from Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam’s 1985 medical school yearbook depicting the future governor and a companion wearing blackface and a Ku Klux Klan outfit. The meme was captioned, “Progressive Leftist Ralph Northam in the 1980s.”
On the same meme, there was a picture of President Donald Trump standing with Muhammad Ali and Rosa Parks with the caption, “The racist Donald Trump in the 1980s.”
He liked another post that called the novel coronavirus a “China virus.”
Kirk, who personally knows Hodges, said he is “deeply saddened” about “being slandered by the mob for stating mainstream pieces of widely-cited data and public information.”
“I have had wonderful times of fellowship with Chris in the past and think he is a gifted ambassador for Christ,” he said. “I didn’t ask him to like my posts, he did so on his own. I will never apologize for stating irrefutable facts, and nor should he.”

(Michael Barnes, Liberty Headlines) According to a new U.S. Treasury inspector general’s report, almost 900,000 high-income taxpayers failed to file tax returns during the last two years of the Obama administration.

The result was $47.5 billion in unpaid taxes and lost government revenue.

What’s more, the Internal Revenue Service did not even attempt to collect tax debts in hundreds of thousands of cases.

The findings are at odds with an administration that campaigned on class warfare and blasting the so-called “top 1 percent” for not paying its “fair share” taxes.

The IRS under Barack Obama was exposed for targeting Tea Party groups, constitutional and free-market conservative nonprofits, and wealthy Americans of opposing political persuasions.

It’s unclear whether the stunning amount of overlooked delinquencies and uncollected tax debts in the twilight phase of Obama’s presidency was by design or the result of mass incompetence.

Senate Finance Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, sent a letter to IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig on Thursday to find out.

“The IRS should make sure its enforcement efforts are fair across the board. No one at any income level should ever think they are safe in cheating on their taxes,” Grassley wrote.

The Treasury report cited 369,180 cases of high-income earners that failed to file tax returns, representing $20.8 billion, where the IRS never even bothered to review their files.

The IRS was also shelving certain delinquent cases months after they were overdue, rather than keeping them open as permitted and pursuing billions of dollars in unpaid tax debts.

Grassley is specifically seeking information about the criteria auditors used to decide which cases to discontinue collection efforts.

“Surely you remember the late billionaire Leona Helmsley having been quoted as saying, ‘Only the little people pay taxes,’ and you likely also remember that Ms. Helmsley served time in federal prison after having been convicted on tax-evasion charges,” Grassley wrote.

“It is important that American taxpayers do not come to view Ms. Helmsley’s selfish words as prophetic.”
