Freedom Caucus Rep. Ken Buck Fuels Suspicion over Unwavering Support for Biden

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Once considered a reliable conservative, Rep. Ken Buck, R-Colo., has continued to raise eyebrows among the GOP base due to his excessive support for scandal-prone President Joe Biden, Newsweek reported.

Specifically, the Freedom Caucus member is accused of blocking House Republican efforts to impeach Biden, insisting that Republicans need to wait until more details come out about the president’s corruption—especially in relation to his son Hunter.

“I think that we have three committees that are working very hard on uncovering evidence of Hunter Biden‘s wrongdoing,” he said in an appearance Wednesday on CNN’s The Lead.

For Buck, the mounds of evidence have so far failed to convince him that Joe Biden himself was involved in any of Hunter’s illicit dealings.

“They are looking to see if there is a connection with Joe Biden,” he said.

“If they reach that point where they could find evidence of a connection, fine,” he added. “I think that the Republicans will move forward with an impeachment inquiry.”

Buck was cautious to mince his words, not suggesting that Biden was innocent, per se, but that the smoking-gun evidence needed to persuade Democrats to join rank in finding Biden guilty of an impeachable offence had not yet been presented.

“Right now, I’m not convinced that that evidence exists,” he said. “And I’m not supporting an impeachment inquiry.”

Others argue that the evidence already has been made public and that Democrats who deny it are playing an obtuse game of political denialism as they wait to see if public opinion will force out the addled 80-year-old, who remains politically underwater as he has for much of his presidency.

Buck’s reasons for ignoring the evidentiary record remain unclear. However, his stance on Biden family corruption has created a good deal of distance between him and many of his fellow Republicans in the House.

For instance, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, R-Calif., recently accused the president of “weaponizing” the government.

“If you’re sitting in our position today, we would know none of this if Republicans had not taken the [House] majority,” he said in a recent Fox News appearance.

“We’ve only followed where the information has taken us,” he added. “But this is rising to the level of impeachment inquiry, which provides Congress the strongest power to get the rest of the knowledge and information needed.”

Others, however, have accused McCarthy of dragging his feet—including Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., who threatened this week to call a floor vote to oust McCarthy as speaker if he did not move more quickly to initiate impeachment proceedings.

Some, such as Rep. Virginia Foxx, R-N.C., a member of the House Oversight Committee, find themselves caught in the middle, supporting the process of impeachment investigations while cautious not to rush headlong into a politically precarious position that Democrats could use to their advantage, as they did in the 1998 election ahead of Bill Clinton’s impeachment.

“I believe that President Biden and his family are corrupt,” Foxx told Headline USA in an exclusive interview Wednesday.

However, “we have to prove that to the American people,” she added. “I do not think that it is right for us to prematurely go into an impeachment vote.”

Foxx noted that during the Watergate era, it was then-President Richard Nixon’s loss of support within his own party that forced his resignation while facing an imminent impeachment vote.

Likewise, in order to hold Biden and his son accountable, “We need the Democrats,” she said.

Jim Jordan Launches Investigation of Donald Trump’s Prosecutor

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, announced Thursday that his committee is investigating a senior aid to Special Counsel Jack Smith, the prosecutor targeting Donald Trump in multiple criminal proceedings.

Jordan said Smith’s aid, prosecutor Jay Bratt, allegedly tried to bribe defense attorney Stanley Woodward—who is representing a defendant indicted by Jack Smith—by implying that the Biden administration would look more favorably on Woodward’s candidacy for a judgeship if his client cooperated with Smith.

Jordan announced his investigation into Bratt in a letter to Smith.

“In November 2022, when your prosecutors were trying to secure the cooperation of Walt Nauta—who is alleged to have ‘move[d] boxes of documents’ at Mar-a-Lago—prosecutors, including Mr. Bratt, summoned Mr. Woodward to a meeting at the Department’s headquarters for ‘an urgent matter that they were reluctant to discuss over the phone,’” Jordan told Smith.

“When Mr. Woodward arrived, Mr. Bratt threatened him that Mr. Nauta should cooperate ‘because he had given potentially conflicting testimony that could result in a false statement,’” Jordan said.

According to Jordan, Bratt referenced Woodward’s pending application for a judgeship on the D.C. superior court—implying that the Biden administration would perceive Mr. Woodward’s application more favorably if Mr. Nauta was a cooperating witness against Trump.

Woodward subsequently informed the Justice Department that they “would have no further communications” unless the Justice Department charged Nauta or brokered an immunity deal, Jordan said.

Woodward has stated in court briefs that Mr. Bratt’s intimidation threats were merely “an attempt to diminish the Court’s authority over the proceedings in this case and to undermine attorney-client relationships without any basis specific to the facts of such representation.”

Jordan asked Smith to provide him with all documents and communications referring or relating to any appointment, meeting, or other visit by Woodward to the Justice Department, as well as any other communications referencing Woodward.

Smith has until Sept. 21 to answer Jordan.

The Judiciary Committee chairman’s latest investigation follows a probe he launched last month into whether Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis colluded with federal prosecutors for its indictment of Trump and 18 other defendants in that case.

Willis responded to Jordan Thursday by writing a letter accusing him of interfering with her prosecution.

Bitter Leftists Claim Trump Infringed on Copyright for Using His Own Mugshot

(Jacob Bruns, Headline USA) Enraged by the financial and political success of former President Donald Trump in the wake of his iconic mugshot photo, never-Trumper leftist legal scholars have come out of the woodwork to condemn Trump for violating copyright laws via the sale of merchandise with his own mugshot on it, the Atlanta Black Star reported.

The mugshot photo originated when Trump was detained at a Fulton County Jail last month after being charged, along with 18 of his allies, for racketeering in connection to his alleged attempt to meddle with the outcome of the 2020 election, similar to election-challenge actions perpetrated by Soros-backed DA Fani Willis, who is prosecuting the case.

Trump posted his mugshot to Twitter soon thereafter. Since that time, his campaign has made millions selling t-shirts adorned with the former president’s mug.

Naturally, Trump’s success enraged America’s elites, who rushed to insist that he was engaged in foul play. Leading the way was CNN’s Trump specialist, Kate Sullivan:

Sullivan was joined by Betsy Rosenblatt, a legal expert and university professor at Case Western Reserve University.

According to Rosenblatt, mugshots cannot be used for just anything “without authorization.”

“You’re prohibited from reproducing it, making a derivative work of it, distributing it without authorization, or that is to say distributing anything that isn’t the one copy you already lawfully have, and various other things,” she continued.

The legal scholar’s mouth watered as she pondered the “fascinating possibilities” that the situation presents to leftists interested in waging lawfare.

Ultimately, Rosenblatt noted, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office owns the copyright.

“But it’s also reasonable to think that the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office might think, you know, this is a public document, it belongs to the world in a way, [the] copyright belongs to us,” Rosenblatt explained, hinting to the office that there may be legal ways to proceed against Trump.

Ultimately, however, Rosenblatt suggested that it may not be worthwhile to pursue given the “expense and trouble of hiring copyright counsel,” as well as the “sending out takedowns and cease and desist and letters, or in lawsuits.”

BLM Radical Who Won Des Moines Council Seat Resigns after 6-Month Absence

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) Radical Black Lives Matter activist Indira Sheumaker, who won a seat on the Des Moines city council in March, recently resigned from her position after neglecting her seat for six months.

Sheumaker did not attend any city council meetings or workshops since March 6, 2023 and refused to account for her absence, despite continuing to draw a salary and health benefits from the position, according to the Post Millennial.

Sheumaker, also an organizer for the Black Liberation Movement, ran on a platform that advocated for “defunding the police,” winning in an upset victory against the incumbent in 2021.

Randy Sheumaker, her father, delivered his daughter’s resignation letter to the city on Aug. 31.

Her father reported that she was hospitalized in April, but did not elaborate on her situation.

The former councilwoman previously stated that she suffered from clinical anxiety and depression, which COVID lockdowns had exacerbated.

A statement from Sheumaker’s office made it clear that mental health was her reason for leaving the council but did not lend any insight to her situation.

She did take time to call out BIPOC Mental Health Awareness month.

“As a [b]lack, queer, feminine individual I and others like me face unique challenges relating to mental health that are exacerbated by the social conditions we live under,” her statement read. “I hope my openness can bring attention to these issues and spark understanding on a larger scale.”

She signed off wishing “all power to the people.”

Sheumaker also took a leave of absence to focus on her mental health in 2022.

A release from the City of Des Moines announced Sheumaker’s departure and requested that the populous wait patiently while the mayor and city council consider next steps.

“We wish Ms. Sheumaker the best and appreciate Ms. Sheumaker’s time on the council,” said Mayor Frank Cownie.

Iowa’s next general election is on Nov. 7.

Review Site Rotten Tomatoes Paid by PR Firm to Boost Woke Movies

(Molly Bruns, Headline USA) A recent report revealed that a public relations firm manipulated movie-reviewing site Rotten Tomatoes by paying reviewers to leave positive comments.

Public relations firm Bunker 15 paid critics on the website to leave good reviews for 2018 movie Ophelia, which initial ratings put at an abysmal 46%, according to the Daily Wire.

“It’s a Sundance film and the feeling is that it’s been treated a bit harshly by some critics (I’m sure sky-high expectations were the culprit) so the teams involved feel like it would benefit from more input from different critics,” a Bunker 15 employee said in an email to a potential reviewer.

In the communications between the PR rep and potential reviewer, the rep made it clear that “super nice” reviews would be published on very visible websites and bad ones would only be sent to “smaller blog[s] that RT never sees.”

The movie’s ratings spiked to 62% in the following months.

“Wow, you are really reaching there,” said Daniel Harlow, Bunker 15 founder, when asked about his recruitment operations. “We have thousands of writers in our distribution list. A small handful have set up a specific system where filmmakers can sponsor or pay to have them review a film.”

Users of Rotten Tomatoes complained about the initial critical reviews skewing initial viewership, especially for big projects from larger studios.

Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania received an average 79% score from critics, who previewed the film before its public release.

After theaters opened to the public, reviews dropped into the 40-50% range—a drastic change from the initial impression of the critics, who may have taken money from the studios to secure better reviews.

“The studios didn’t invent Rotten Tomatoes, and most of them don’t like it. But the system is broken,” said filmmaker and former critic Paul Schrader. “Audiences are dumber. Normal people don’t go through reviews like they used to. Rotten Tomatoes is something the studios can game. So they do.”

Oliver Anthony Was Right: More Than $25 Billion in Food Stamps Spent on Junk Food, Study Finds

(Ken Silva, Headline USA) Overnight music sensation Oliver Anthony has taken some flak for a line in Rich Men North of Richmond where he sings, “Well, God, if you’re 5-foot-3 and you’re 300 pounds, taxes ought not to pay for our bags of fudge rounds.”

But it turns out, Anthony has a point.

According to a recent study from the Cato Institute, about 25 percent of food stamps are spent towards junk food. Federal spending on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP, is about $145 billion per year, so that would mean America’s roughly 42 million food stamp recipients spend about more than $60 million per year on chips, candy, pastries and—yes—fudge rounds.

“SNAP’s 42 million recipients have less healthy diets and are more obese than other Americans, including low‐income Americans not on SNAP. Almost one‐quarter of food purchases by SNAP households are for junk food, which contradicts extensive federal efforts to promote healthy diets,” Cato said.

“A 2016 USDA study using point‐of‐sale data found that 23 percent of purchases by SNAP households were sugary drinks, desserts, salty snacks, candy, and sugar, which is generally called junk food.”

Cato raised alarms about the recent drastic spending in SNAP, which more than doubled from $63 billion in 2019 to an estimated $145 billion in 2023.

Some of the increase was temporary during the COVID-19 pandemic, but some recent changes to SNAP are permanent, Cato said.

“Benefits are adjusted annually for inflation, and recent high inflation has boosted benefit levels,” Cato noted.

The increased spending comes amidst soaring obesity rates. With obesity rates higher among poor people, it’s even more important for SNAP benefits to be geared towards nutritional meals, Cato argued.

“SNAP was originally aimed at alleviating hunger, but subsidizing all calories makes little sense today,” the think tank said.

According to Cato, adult men in SNAP have a higher obesity rate (37 percent) than low‐income nonrecipient men (32 percent). Adult women in SNAP also have a higher obesity rate (52 percent) than low‐income nonrecipient women (40 percent).

Cato also criticized SNAP because it’s making bureacrats’ pockets fat.

“Federal and state food stamp administration consumes $12 billion a year,” Cato said.

“That means $12 billion going to government employees, not to SNAP recipients.”

CNN Poll: 61% of Americans Think Biden a Crook Who Has Ruined the Economy

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) An eye-popping 61% of Americans think that President Joe Biden was involved with his son Hunter’s corrupt business dealings, while nearly 60% said the president’s policies are making the economy worse.

The tsunami of scandals and public missteps swamping the vacationeer-in-chief has eroded his public standing across all demographics and crossed partisan lines, according to the brutal results of a CNN poll released Thursday, which showed only 26% of Americans think Biden has the cognitive capacity to serve effectively as president.

Biden’s overall approval rating with Americans has plummeted to 39%, the start to a string of numbers that CNN was forced to concede “are rough for President Biden,” said White House correspondent Phil Mattingly. “It could spell trouble for Democrats and the president’s hopes for reelection in 2024.”

Some of the more dire indicators included 70% of Americans who said “things are going badly for the country” and 58% who said they had an unfavorable impression of Biden.

That could be related to a growing number of Americans who think Biden is corrupt and has wrongly interfered with investigations into Hunter Biden’s myriad legal issues.

In addition to the 61% who said they “think that Biden had at least some involvement with Hunter Biden’s business dealings,” another “55% majority of the public says the president has acted inappropriately regarding the investigation into Hunter Biden over potential crimes,” CNN reported, with 42% of Americans saying “they think he acted illegally.”

CNN Chief Political Director David Chalian assured viewers that the damning numbers weren’t because Americans actually believe the mountain of evidence implicating Biden in multiple corruption schemes, but because the White House wasn’t doing a sufficient job enabling fake news to spread regime talking points.

“This is to show what happens when you don’t push back at all, which is really what the White House has been doing,” Chalian lamented. “There’s not been a Hunter Biden defense, kind of mounted in a public relations way, and it’s starting to seep through beyond just the right wing echo chamber.”

The seepage didn’t stop there, and it leaked across partisan lines. Nearly 70% of Democrats said the party should nominate anybody but Biden, and majorities from both parties blamed Biden for their perilous economic straits.

“This is why you hear him talking about Bidenomics all the time and trying to get that number lower,” Chalian said.

“It makes you think, was it right for them to label it Bidenomics?” fretted CNN anchor Poppy Harlow.

“Right,” Chalian countered, and again urged the White House’s fake news machine to spring into action. “He’s got to convince Americans that he’s actually improving the economy. You see, a majority thinks he’s worsened it.”

The same misguided Americans are also alarmed by Biden’s enfeebled physical condition and diminishing cognitive abilities. Overall, 73% said they are “seriously concerned Biden’s age might negatively affect his current mental and physical competence,” while 76% are “seriously concerned Biden’s age might negatively affect his ability to serve another full term.”

Donald Trump took the poll as a chance to hammer both CNN and Biden, posting on Truth Social that, “This is one of the worst outcomes in polling history, but because it is FAKE NEWS CNN, I believe that the real numbers are much worse than this for Biden. Almost everyone is doing worse!”

Aside from disastrous policies and questionable health, Biden drew miserable numbers regarding his personal popularity with the public. On top of the 58% who had a unfavorable impression of Biden, only 45% of Americans say the president “cares about people like them, with only 33% describing him as someone they’re proud to have as president,” the poll showed.

Only 28% said Biden “inspires confidence” and only 26% said “that he has the stamina and sharpness to serve effectively as president,” declines that CNN reported were driven largely by Democrats and independents.

The sum total added up to a disastrous scorecard for Biden’s 2024 run, leaving leftists wondering exactly what multiple sham indictments of the GOP’s likely presidential candidate have accomplished.

“Within the margin of error, Donald Trump 47% – Joe Biden 46%. So, they’re basically in a statistical tie,” informed Harry Enten, CNN senior data reporter.

“But what I will note was there was not a single poll conducted by CNN during the entire 2020 cycle in which Donald Trump got a higher share of the vote than Joe Biden did. So this is a vastly different picture from what we saw four years ago.”

Trump senior advisor Jason Miller’s reaction to CNN’s poll reflected that reality. “No wonder national Democrats are freaking out!” he tweeted.

Dems Scramble to Save RINO McConnell as Reliable Ally to Protect Biden, Fund Ukraine

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) In an unusual, yet expectable move, several prominent Democrats are throwing their support behind Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, even as calls for his immediate removal from GOP leadership grow bigger.

The alliance between Democrats and McConnell stemmed out of shared interest in protecting the embattled President Joe Biden from impeachment, aid for corruption-filled Ukraine and massive government spending, according to the New York Times.

“He is the devil they know and a very pragmatic leader,” Sen. Kevin Cramer, R-N.D., said of why Democrats are supporting McConnell. “And there is no one more shrewd.”

Sen. Richard Durbin, D-Ill., also chimed in, touting McConnell’s opposition to issues of importance for House Republicans.

“There are extremes, mainly in the House, that I worry about, but I think he speaks for the mainstream Republican Party on most issues,” Durbin falsely said, before acknowledging McConnell’s concession to Democrats. “He can play an important role in his own ranks in helping us come up with a bipartisan solution to our challenges,” Durbin added.

This sentiment is not shared by prominent conservative leaders, who in reaction to McConnell’s latest health scare, demanded his immediate ousting. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., took to Twitter on August 30 to demand his resignation.

But Democrats disagree, with one anonymous Democrat senator confiding to the Times that McConnell is an ally. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y. echoed this sentiment. “On some things, Leader McConnell and I disagree vehemently,” Schumer stated. “On others, we agree and work together to get done.”

One of the key areas of collaboration between McConnell and Democrats is their shared stance against the impeachment of Biden, who is facing allegations of bribery and political interference in the criminal investigation of his son, Hunter Biden.

McConnell, speaking to the Times on Aug. 8, echoed the Democrats’ talking point against impeachment, despite their onslaught of impeachment articles, not once but twice, against former President Donald Trump.

“Impeachment ought to be rare,” McConnel said, ignoring the Nancy Pelosi precedent. “This is not good for the country.”

Additionally, McConnell has broken ranks with some of his fellow Republicans by opposing a government shutdown, aligning himself with Democrats. “Congress needs to address our nation’s most pressing needs with timely appropriations, and we need to keep the lights on come Oct. 1,” he asserted earlier in the week, the Times reported.

McConnell also rallied support for a contentious $24 billion package for Ukraine despite the eastern European country’s wide web of alleged corruption and countless firings and arrests in recent weeks.

Fulton DA Issues Threatening Letter to Jordan Amid Allegations of Biden Collusion

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has issued a scathing nine-page letter to House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, amid House Republicans’ investigation into potential collusion between her office and Special Counsel Jack Smith.

The letter, characterized by its combative tone, sheds light on Willis’s determination to block Congress from information about her high-profile charges against former President Donald Trump and 18 other defendants related to their efforts to question the contentious 2020 election.

“Your attempt to invoke congressional authority to intrude upon and interfere with an active criminal case in Georgia is flagrantly at odds with the Constitution,“ Willis claimed. “There is absolutely no support for Congress purporting to second guess or somehow supervise an ongoing Georgia criminal investigation and prosecution.”

Willis’s letter was a direct response to the trenchant investigation into allegations that her office used federal funds to prepare what many critics characterized as a politically motivated prosecution against President Joe Biden’s leading rival ahead of the 2024 presidential election.

Continuing her allegations, Willis stressed, “As I make clear below, there is no justification in the Constitution for Congress to interfere with a state criminal matter.” She further claimed that Jordan’s role as a legislator did not him authority to oversee criminal trials.

Initially, Jordan had framed the committee’s involvement as oversight intended to evaluate the alleged weaponization of prosecutorial power. In an Aug. 24 letter, Jordan slammed Willis for launching a campaign fundraiser campaign shortly after her indictment of Trump.

Ms. Willis’s indictment and prosecution implicate substantial federal interests, and the circumstances surrounding her actions raise serious concerns about whether such actions are politically motivated,” the House Judiciary Committee wrote. “Given the weighty federal interests at stake, the Committee is conducting oversight of this matter to determine whether any legislative reforms are appropriate or necessary.”

Willis’s letter arrived amid ongoing political trouble in Georgia, with State Senator Colton Moore leading the charge to defund Willis’s office and advocate for her removal from office.

Moore made his position clear on Thursday, stating, “When I say defund Fani Willis, I mean strip away all of her Georgia state tax dollars, leaving only the $1 we are constitutionally obligated to provide.”

61 Ga. Antifa ‘Militant Anarchists’ Indicted on RICO Charges for ‘Domestic Terrorism’

(Dmytro “Henry” Aleksandrov, Headline USA) In a move that has received widespread praise, Georgia Republican Attorney General Chris Carr indicted dozens of Antifa members on racketeering charges over years of riots, arson and violent protests in opposition to Atlanta’s Public Safety Training Center.

“Cop City,” the title that was given by leftist activists, has been targeted by organized, violent mobs since it was announced.

Carr said that activists targeting the facility were “militant anarchists,” as the indictment indicated when it was announced on Tuesday, the Western Journal reported. The indictment, dated Aug. 29, used Georgia’s anti-racketeering or RICO law and targeted 61 Antifa members.

The mayhem unleashed by Antifa activists forced the state’s Republican Gov. Brian Kemp into declaring a state of emergency in response to a spree of violence, gun fire, arson and looting that was widespread and relentless.

Antifa radicals called for a Night of Rage after police were forced to gun down an armed leftist militant who was shooting at Georgia state troopers. The domestic terrorism reached an apex when Antifa squads executed a planned attack and burned down the Public Safety Training Facility.

RICO is the same statute that Soros-backed Fulton County prosecutor Fani Willis used to charge Donald Trump and 18 other people for questioning the results of the 2020 election. Carr’s indictment of Antifa could be viewed as a sign of the state’s Republican Party finally starting to fight fire with fire, the Journal noted.

Carr accused all of the defendants of violence, intimidation, destruction of property and conspiring to obstruct the construction of the police and fire training center.

The criminals have also previously been charged with domestic terrorism and other acts in connection to the violent protests and riots at or near the training center. In addition to that, three leaders of the movement against it were also accused of money laundering.

Earlier this year, Carr expressed his willingness to use the full power of the law to keep order in the state when he shared a Fox News report about some of the “Cop City” rioting.

“We are not Oregon. We are not California. We are not Washington. You cannot come to our state, break our laws, throw rocks at buildings, damage property and shoot police officers. You can and you will be charged, and that’s exactly what we’re doing,” he wrote.
