US and Canada Challenge China by Sailing Through Taiwan Straight

(Headline USA) The U.S. and the Canadian navies sailed two warships through the Taiwan Strait on Saturday, in a challenge to China‘s sweeping territorial claims.

The USS Ralph Johnson and the Royal Canadian Navy Halifax-class frigate HMCS Ottawa sailed through the narrow band of ocean that separates China and self-ruled Taiwan, according to the U.S. Navy’s 7th Fleet. Beijing claims Taiwan as part of its territory to be reunited by force if necessary, and views transits by the U.S. Navy and its allies as provocative actions.

The cruisers “transited through a corridor in the Strait that is beyond the territorial sea of any coastal state,” the Navy statement said.

The U.S. routinely sails through the strait in what it calls “freedom of navigation” operations.

China has stepped up its military activities around Taiwan, including sending warships and warplanes on a near daily basis.

In June, the U.S. released a video in which a Chinese navy ship cut sharply across the path of an American destroyer, forcing the U.S. vessel to slow to avoid a collision.

The U.S. ship also was conducting a transit with a Canadian vessel.

China said it tracked both ships throughout their entire transit and its forces “dealt with the situation according to law and regulation,” said Senior Col. Shi Yi, spokesperson for the People Liberation Army’s Eastern Theater Command in a statement.

J6 Court Finds Son of Conservative Activist Guilty

(Headline USA) The son of a prominent conservative activist has been convicted of  J6 charges.

Leo Brent Bozell IV, 44, of Palmyra, Pennsylvania, was found guilty Friday of 10 charges, including five felony offenses, after a trial decided by a federal judge, according to the Justice Department.

Bozell’s father is Brent Bozell III, who founded the Media Research Center, Parents Television Council and other conservative media organizations.

Bozell was “a major contributor to the chaos, the destruction, and the obstruction at the Capitol on January 6, 2021,” prosecutors said in a pretrial court filing.

The judge is scheduled to sentence Bozell on Jan. 9.

Bozell’s lawyer, William Shipley Jr., did not immediately respond to an email seeking comment on Saturday.

On January 6th, Bozell was captured on video entering the office of then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., prosecutors said.

Entering the Senate gallery, Bozell spent several minutes on the Senate floor.

Bozell roamed through the Capitol for nearly an hour, reaching more than a dozen different parts of the building and passing through at least seven police lines before police escorted him out, prosecutors said.

In a pretrial court filing, Bozell’s lawyer explained that he was simply wandering through the building, and did not attack or harm police officers.

“In fact, video evidence will show that Mr. Bozell assisted in some small way law enforcement officers that he thought could be helped by his assistance,” Shipley wrote.

Shipley also argued that Bozell “was – for the most part – simply lost and wandering from place-to-place observing events as they transpired.”

Bozell was arrested in February 2021. An FBI tipster who identified Bozell recognized him in part from the “Hershey Christian Academy” sweatshirt that he wore on Jan. 6.

IRS to Crackdown on Millionaires and Big Companies Using Ai

(Brett Rowland, The Center Square) – The IRS announced new enforcement initiatives Friday to crack down on 1,600 millionaires and 75 large companies it said owe hundreds of millions in unpaid taxes.

IRS Commissioner Daniel Werfel said the agency will use Inflation Reduction Act funding to focus on high-income earners, partnerships, large corporations and promoters. He said the IRS won’t increase audit rates for those earning less than $400,000 a year.

“This new compliance push makes good on the promise of the Inflation Reduction Act to ensure the IRS holds our wealthiest filers accountable to pay the full amount of what they owe,” Werfel said in a statement.

“The years of underfunding that predated the Inflation Reduction Act led to the lowest audit rate of wealthy filers in our history.”

The IRS will prioritize high-income cases.

The High Wealth, High Balance Due Taxpayer Field Initiative will take aim at taxpayers with total positive income above $1 million who have more than $250,000 in recognized tax debt.

The agency also will have dozens of revenue officers focusing on these high-end collection cases in fiscal year 2024 and the agency is working to expand that effort by contacting about 1,600 taxpayers who owe hundreds of millions of dollars in taxes, according to the agency.

The IRS further plans to expand a pilot program that uses artificial intelligence to take a closer look at the 75 largest partnerships in the U.S. That is expected to start by the end of the month. On average, such partnerships have more than $10 billion in assets.

Executive Fiat Bans Carrying Firearms and Orders Monthly Inspections

(Headline USA) New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Friday issued an unconstitutional emergency order suspending the right to carry firearms in public across Albuquerque and the surrounding county for at least 30 days.

The Democratic governor said she expects legal challenges.

Albuquerque police Chief Harold Medina said he won’t enforce it, and Bernalillo County Sheriff John Allen said he’s uneasy about it because it raises too many questions about constitutional rights.

The firearms suspension, classified as an emergency public health order, applies to open and concealed carry in most public places, from city sidewalks to urban recreational parks. The restriction is tied to a threshold for violent crime rates currently only met by the metropolitan Albuquerque.

Police and licensed security guards are exempt from the temporary ban.

Violators could face civil penalties and a fine of up to $5,000, gubernatorial spokeswoman Caroline Sweeney said. Under the order, residents still can transport guns to some private locations, such as a gun range or gun store, provided the firearm has a trigger lock or some other container or mechanism making it impossible to discharge.

Sheriff John Allen said he was uneasy about violating the Second Amendment.

“While I understand and appreciate the urgency, the temporary ban challenges the foundation of our constitution, which I swore an oath to uphold,” Allen said. “I am wary of placing my deputies in positions that could lead to civil liability conflicts, as well as the potential risks posed by prohibiting law-abiding citizens from their constitutional right to self-defense.”

Enforcing the governor’s order also could put Albuquerque police in a difficult position with the U.S. Department of Justice regarding a police reform settlement, said police spokesman Gilbert Gallegos.

“All of those are unsettled questions,” he said late Friday.

The top-ranked Republican in the state Senate swiftly denounced the governor’s actions Friday to restrict guns as a way to stem violent crime.

“A child is murdered, the perpetrator is still on the loose, and what does the governor do? She … targets law-abiding citizens with an unconstitutional gun order,” Sen. Greg Baca of Belen said.

Friday’s order also directs state regulators to harass gun shops by conducting monthly inspections of firearms dealers statewide to ensure compliance with gun laws.

MURDOCK: NeverTrumpers ‘Fight Like Hell’ to Rig Free & Fair Elections Using Lawfare

(Deroy Murdock, Headline USA) As if the four previous prosecutorial cow pies that surround Donald J. Trump were not fetid enough, the U.S. Supreme Court soon will step into efforts to bar him from state ballots.

Assorted Trumpophobes are using the Bill of Rights to deny Americans the right to vote for or against DJT for president.

Specifically, Section Three of the 14th Amendment disqualifies from high office certain individuals who “shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the [U.S. Constitution], or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof.”

This legal theory might make sense if Trump had been imprisoned for insurrection or rebellion. It might hold water, if he had been convicted of insurrection or rebellion.

This boomlet even might boast a thimble full of steam if the Justice Department, a state attorney general or some county prosecutor had indicted him for insurrection or rebellion. Unfortunately for Trump haters, this never happened.

In a bizarre and totally unprecedented action, Democrats waited until after Trump departed the White House to try him for “incitement of insurrection.”

His second impeachment trial resembled an employer firing an employee after he left the company.

The House’s “incitement” accusation already was one step short of insurrection, akin to telling someone to torch a house rather than personally lobbing a Molotov cocktail onto its front porch.

Regardless, 43 U.S. senators found Trump not guilty, while 57 disagreed—10 shy of conviction. So, the Senate acquitted Trump of insurrection.

Moreover, the 14th Amendment’s 1868 insurrection language is tied to the Civil War. It was designed to keep Jefferson Davis, Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, and other Confederates out of Congress and the White House.

Trump’s detractors cannot escape these facts: He never served the Confederacy and was born in New York 81 years after the North defeated the South in 1865.

Trump’s persecutors also refuse to acknowledge what he told supporters at a Jan. 6, 2021 rally: “I know that everyone here will soon be marching over to the Capitol building to peacefully and patriotically make your voices heard.”

This was no rebel yell.

Trump’s foes retort that he told protesters, “Fight like hell.”

Alleged translation: “Smash into the U.S. Capitol, hijack the Electoral College, and make me President for Life.”

To call this argument flaccid overstates its potency.

Democrats regularly say “fight like hell.” Consider:

Trump’s lawyers turned the Democrats’ “fight like hell” argument into a pants-wetting laughing stock by showing at his Senate trial a nearly 10-minute-long video of top Democrats using “fighting words.”

President Joe Biden, Vice President Kamala Harris, and a parade of Democrat senators and House members say, “fight,” “fight back,” “fight on,” and—yes—“fight like hell” at least (by my count) 281 separate times.

“Fight like hell” is routine political rhetoric. This cliché is as innocent as “Remember to vote” and “God Bless America.”

If Trump really wanted an insurrection, he would not have authorized 10,000 National Guard troops to patrol Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6.

Trump’s enemies want Americans to believe that he ordered unarmed insurrectionists to storm the Capitol after he greenlighted 10,000 GIs with automatic rifles to crush their rebellion.

How idiotic do Democrats think Americans are?

Alas, the U.S. House’s then-Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., and Democrat D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser inexplicably rebuffed the protection that Trump had approved.

Trump offered to encircle the Capitol with troops. Pelosi and Bowser stopped him. And now Trump’s tormentors blame him for insurrection?

This claim is flimsier than a Kleenex in a hurricane.

Democrat liars relentlessly call themselves democracy’s stalwart defenders. If so, why not simply run against Donald J. Trump? Why bar him from ballots rather than let voters choose the Democrats’ vision or his?

Democrats, more evil than ever, understand that fascism is easier than democracy.

Teachers Union Boss Caught In Private School Scandal

(Mark Pellin, Headline USA) After years berating school choice proponents as fascists and smearing private schools as  “segregation academies,” the president of one the country’s largest teachers unions was exposed as a hypocrite who sends her son to a posh private school.

Stacy Davis Gates, president of the Chicago Teachers Union, sent her 14-year-old son to a private Catholic school in the city, the Daily Mail reported. Her two younger children reportedly attend a public elementary school in Chicago.

The hypocrisy of Gates’s double-standard is particularly glaring given her voracious public animus toward private schools and supporters of school choice.

The teachers union boss has even used her children as talking points to bolster her pubic school bonafides, declaring last year that, “I’m also a mother. My children go to Chicago Public Schools. These are the things that legitimize my space within the coalition.” She repeated the exaggerated claim again when she told a local magazine that, “I can’t advocate on behalf of public education without it taking root in my own household.”

The union boss who has castigated parents for wanting to provide their children the best possible educational opportunities through the empowerment of school choice warned that she was “concerned about the encroachment of fascists in Chicago,” when asked in a 2022 interview if she worried “about school-choice and privatization supporters running for the school board, and a strategy to oppose that?”

Davis Gates’s strategy, in at least one case, was to send her son to private school, which didn’t prevent her from fuming on Twitter that “*School choice* was actually the choice of racists. It was created to avoid integrating schools with Black children. Now it’s the civil rights struggle of our generation?”

The teachers union chief’s opposition to school choice is nothing new, with David Gates in 2018 decrying private schools as “segregation academies,” writing “Call them private schools supported by taxpayer funds—vouchers—so your northern cousins understand better.”

David Gates defended her decision to choose a private school because Chicago public schools, with the teachers unions running the show, are in shambles and a dead end for education.

“It was a very difficult decision for us because there is not a lot to offer black youth who are entering high school” Davis Gates told WBEZ Chicago. “In many of our schools on the South Side and the West Side, the course offerings are very marginal and limited. Then the other thing, and it was a very strong priority, was his ability to participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities, which quite frankly, don’t exist in many of the schools, high schools in particular.”

Corey DeAngelis, a school choice advocate and senior fellow at the American Federation for Children, said Davis Gates’s explanation only served to amplify her hypocrisy.

“I’m glad she has education opportunities for her family, but she shouldn’t fight against school choice for others,” DeAngelis told Fox News Digital. He said the teachers union boss should “resign in disgrace” for exaggerating her family’s public school roots publicly, while sending her son to a private school.

“The truth is she knows her unionized government schools are failing children,” DeAngelis said. “She got her own child out of the dumpster fire that is Chicago Public Schools. Less fortunate families should be able to escape those failure factories, too.”

‘I Was Shocked’: Copycat Biden Rocked by New Allegations of Plagiarism

(Luis Cornelio, Headline USA) Explosive allegations of plagiarism have emerged against President Joe Biden, dating back over two decades, when Biden served as a U.S. senator.

Roger Severino, a Harvard Law School alumnus and vice president of the Heritage Foundation, made these stunning claims in an interview with Fox News host Jesse Watters, detailing that Biden ripped off text from a federal court case.

“Words like ‘herald of a new era’ tipped me off,” Severino told Watters. “Like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa, I’ve heard this before.’”

Severino initially took to Twitter to make the allegations. He explained, “My first assignment as a junior editor at the Harvard Journal on Legislation (1999-2000) was to cite check an article submitted by one Sen. Joseph R. Biden. I was shocked by the plagiarism I discovered.”

The crux of Severino’s allegations centers on Biden’s failure to attribute federal Judge Diana Gribbon Motz’s dissenting opinion in the Brzonkala v. Virginia Polytechnic Institute case properly.

Severino stated, “That’s when I noticed that a certain turn of phrase in an opinion sounded oddly familiar even though it was my time reading it. So I turned back to Biden’s article, and there it was… He had lifted language straight out of a SCOTUS opinion, changed a couple words, and called them his own. There were no quote marks and no footnote or anything else attributing the court as the source.”

More troublingly, Severino revealed that this apparent plagiarism had been concealed by subsequent edits. As Severino put it, “They ‘fixed’ the plagiarism by adding proper attributions, and acted like the whole incident never happened.”

The timing of Severino’s disclosure, 23 years after the fact, prompted host Waters to ask Severino about his motives. However, Severino defended his decision by pointing to Biden’s long history of plagiarism and embellishments, asserting that the American people deserve to know the truth.

“The problem is he’s been doing this for decades, and the American people have to know,” Severino added. “He never owned up to his plagiarism scandals and his constant embellishments.”

This isn’t the first time Biden’s name has been associated with plagiarism.

According to the New York Post, in 1965, Biden admitted to copying five pages from a law review article without proper attribution, stating, “My intent was not to deceive anyone.” However, this earlier scandal, resurfaced by the New York Times in 1987, sank Biden’s first presidential campaign.

Gov. Kristi Noem Endorses Trump at Giant Rally in South Dakota

(Headline USA) South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem endorsed former President Donald Trump at a party fundraiser in Rapid City Friday night that doubled as an opportunity for Noem to showcase herself as a potential vice presidential pick.

As his rivals held town halls and meet-and-greets in early voting states, Trump headlined the South Dakota Republican Party’s “Monumental Leaders Rally” in Rapid City, where Noem, once considered a potential 2024 candidate in her own right, instead threw her support behind the former president.

“I will do everything I can to help him win and save this country,” Noem said as she formally offered her endorsement before Trump took the stage. She said all the other Republican presidential candidates had been invited to the event. “All of them told us that they had better things to do. But when President Trump was invited to come be with you tonight, he said, ‘I will be there,’” she said.

Trump, for his part, praised Noem as “one of the most successful governors in the entire nation” and said her endorsement “means a lot.”

Trump’s decision to headline the event underscores his dominance in the early stages of the GOP presidential primary even as he faces four separate indictments and 91 felony counts. South Dakota holds a late primary and isn’t a competitive general election state. But with a huge lead, Trump is skipping much of the traditional primary campaign.

The visit was also something of an audition for Noem. She planned the event as a way to both offer her endorsement and maximize face time with Trump as he considers potential 2024 running mates and cabinet members, according to two senior Republicans familiar with her thinking who spoke on condition of anonymity ahead of the announcement.

Noem will be term-limited in 2026 and, after declining to run for president this year, is eyeing her next move to maintain prominence in the GOP.

Allies had hoped her appearance alongside Trump would create an image that looked like a potential presidential ticket. And they seemed to get what they desired: Several people sitting behind Trump held “Trump-Noem 2024″ signs and, at one point, their names appeared together on a screen behind the stage at The Monument ice arena, captured in a photo by an NBC reporter.

Asked this week whether she would consider joining a potential Trump ticket if invited, Noem told Newsmax she “would in a heartbeat.”

“President Trump needs a strong partner if he’s going to take back the White House, and he’s going to need somebody who knows what it’s like to run a business, to be an employee, earn a paycheck, but also having a wife, mom and a grandma isn’t bad either,” she said.

Michael Card, a longtime observer of South Dakota politics, suggested Noem might make a future National Rifle Association president or conservative commentator, but said her best opportunity may lie with Trump.

“I think Donald Trump has a 50-50 shot of getting elected at this point, so why not hitch your wagon to him if you can?” he said.

The visit was Trump’s first to South Dakota since the summer of 2020, when he headlined a fireworks celebration at Mount Rushmore on the eve of Independence Day. The then-president had been looking for a venue to turn the page after a summer of pandemic lockdowns and racial justice protests, and Noem’s event at Mount Rushmore was notably devoid of pandemic restrictions.

She also gifted him a miniature replica of Mount Rushmore with his likeness carved alongside George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Teddy Roosevelt.

A former member of Congress, Noem rose to national prominence with a mostly hands-off approach to the pandemic. Trump has often praised that approach, cheering her rejection of policies aimed at containing the spread of COVID-19 and arguing that she did a better job than his leading rival, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, who often touts his own efforts to reopen businesses and reject mandates.

Despite not running for president, Noem has continued to position herself nationally. She has been an outspoken champion for the NRA, even bragging at a spring convention for the gun-rights group that her 1-year-old granddaughter “already has” firearms. During the first GOP presidential debate, she appeared in an ad to encourage businesses and families to move to what she calls “the freest state in America.”

South Dakota GOP chair John Wiik said he had expected about 7,000 people to attend the sold-out fundraiser, which was first envisioned as a Lincoln Day-style dinner commonly held by local Republican groups.

“I did get a lot of questions at first,” Wiik said about Trump’s decision to travel to his state just as the primary season kicks into its traditional post-Labor Day overdrive.

“But the more you look at it, Trump is a media event wherever he lands,” Wiik said. “He could do a rally on the moon and he’d spread his word and get just as many people, so I’m just glad he chose South Dakota.”

Texas Gov., Biden Admin Escalate Fight Over Illegal Aliens Surge

(Bethany Blankley, The Center Square) The battle between the state of Texas and the Biden administration over a surge in illegal immigration since 2021 escalated after a California newspaper reported the administration is considering “forcing migrant families to remain in Texas.”

The Los Angeles Times Thursday story cites anonymous sources who claim the administration is considering “forcing some migrants families who enter the country without authorization to remain near the border in Texas while awaiting asylum screening, effectively limiting their ability to travel within the United States.”

The anonymous sources acknowledge that foreign nationals are illegally entering the U.S. in Texas and the Biden administration is neither deporting them nor requiring them to remain in Mexico. The administration, after several years of litigation, was able to end the Remain in Mexico policy, which was implemented by the Trump administration to minimize illegal border crossings.

Unlike the previous administration, the Biden administration plan would reportedly require illegal border crossers to remain in Texas, not Mexico, as they await asylum hearings.

“The Biden plan would force certain migrant families to remain in Texas – or possibly other border states – by tracking their location through GPS monitoring devices, such as ankle bracelets, according to the three officials, who were not authorized to speak publicly on the matter,” the Times reports.

In response, Gov. Greg Abbott posted from his personal X account, stating, “[President Joe] Biden considers forcing migrant families to remain in Texas. This scam was tried years ago & was shot down by a judge. We will send Biden the same swift justice.

“And, we will add even more buses of migrants to Washington D.C.”

The Times report is referring to the Family Expedited Removal Management program. The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has explained that “The Biden-Harris Administration is committed to imposing immigration consequences in a safe and humane manner to those who fail to use available lawful pathways and unlawfully enter the United States.”

The FERM process, DHS says, “places certain family unit heads of household on Alternatives to Detention, following apprehension at the Southwest Border and placement into expedited removal. The process provides supervision while the family awaits an interview to assess their credible fear of persecution or torture. FERM enrollment consists of GPS monitoring with a mandatory home curfew, 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., daily.

“While FERM initially began in four locations, DHS is quickly expanding to cities across the country and is removing families who are determined to be ineligible for relief and are ordered removed through this non-detained enforcement process.”

Abbott has remained resolute in his strategy to bus illegal border crossers to self-described “sanctuary cities” across the U.S, which he began in April 2022 “to provide much needed relief to border communities.”

Since then, and as of Sept. 1, Texas has bused more than 34,740 illegal foreign nationals to six sanctuary cities, according to data from the governor’s office. The cities, all run by Democratic mayors, have declared states of emergencies, claiming they can’t handle the influx.

By comparison, between 3,000 and 5,000 people illegally enter Texas a day between ports of entry. In July alone this year, they totaled over 87,000.

The nation’s capital was the first destination city to receive busloads of people. Its mayor and city officials declared the District of Columbia was a sanctuary city for people who were in the country illegally. After a few hundred began arriving, its mayor declared a state of emergency and asked for help from the federal government, including multiple requests for National Guard troops, which were denied.

Since April 2022, Texas has bused 11,300 people to Washington, D.C.

By August 2022, Abbott added two destination cities – New York City and Chicago. Since then, more than 13,100 people have been bused to New York City and over 6,400 to Chicago.

By November 2022, he added Philadelphia as a destination city. Since then, more than 2,500 people have chosen to be bused there.

This year, Abbott added two additional destination cities: Denver and Los Angeles. Since May of this year, more than 1,000 people chose to be bused to Denver; since June, over 440 to Los Angeles.

All Texas transportation to self-described sanctuary cities is voluntary. All adults must sign waivers for themselves and minors under their care. Passengers voluntarily choose the destination city of their choice. Transportation is free to passengers and costs Texas taxpayers millions of dollars.

The Democratic mayors have described Abbott’s busing strategy as “cruel” and “inhumane.”

The White House does not appear to have issued a statement in response to the Times report.

National Archives Spends Millions for DEI, Federal Equity Trainings at Taxpayer Expense

(Casey Harper, The Center Square) A closer look at the federal agency that sparked former President Donald Trump’s first federal indictment shows that it has embraced far-left diversity, equity and inclusion policies.

The little-known federal agency called the National Archives and Records Administration was thrust into the national spotlight after it tipped off the U.S. Department of Justice over Trump’s alleged mishandling of classified documents.

On its website, the agency calls itself a “nonpartisan, independent” group. A deep dive by The Center Square into its records show it has embraced ideology around gender and race and has reportedly been unwilling to hand over some records of President Joe Biden to investigators.

In its 2022 budget request, the federal agency asked Congress for more than $28 million and nearly 150 news staff to “advance racial equity and support underserved communities.”

“A program increase of $20,052 thousand and 144 FTE to advance racial equity and support underserved communities,” the budget said. “This request includes funding to address staffing needs across the agency and funds targeted recruitment activities to ensure a diverse pool of applicants to help increase the diversity of NARA’s workforce.”

Part of the record-keeping agency’s equity spending, which has been encouraged and in some cases mandated by Biden since he took office, include a Diversity, Equity and Inclusion action plan.

NARA’s latest 2022 DEI plan pledges to double down on equity training for employees “to strengthen and foster an inclusive workforce.”

“NARA will demonstrate leadership commitment through developing a DEIA recognition program that will reinforce a culture of equity and inclusion,” the plan says.

In NARA’s most recent strategic DEI plan, the agency essentially pledges to work to get more minority applicants and leadership and lower the percentage of leading white Americans in the agency. The group’s 2012 report defines minorities as “all categories of current and potential employees identified as non-white.”

“NARA will provide training and support to hiring managers to increase the diversity of the NARA workforce,” the agency said, also pledging to “mitigate biases” and create “safe spaces.”

The agency said these recommendations came from a report created by the NARA Task Force on Racism that delivered a document to the agency’s leadership in 2021 recommending more training on things like “white privilege.”

“Address offensive behavior by staff with specific training on white privilege and systemic racism,” the report said.

The task force also defines “reverse racism” as “a fallacy that refers to discrimination against White people…”

“Anti-racist activists in the U.S. have largely deemed reverse racism to be impossible, as the power structure of the United States has historically benefited White people and continues to do so today,” the report said. “Reverse racism is often confused with racial prejudice against White people, which does exist, but lacks the systemic relationship of power that would qualify such prejudice as racism.”

The report acknowledges not all employees agree with the equity agenda but says ”the work of the Task Force needs to be done despite varying opinions and hurt feelings.”

Notably, that same agency worked to get classified documents back from both President Joe Biden and former Vice President Mike Pence, neither of whom were charged, though NARA did reportedly inform the DOJ about both.

NARA leadership has rebuffed any claims of political bias or motivation, including in the agency’s role in Trump’s indictment.

“The National Archives has been the focus of intense scrutiny for months, this week especially, with many people ascribing political motivation to our actions,” Debra Steidel Wall, the acting archivist at the time, said in a memo to employees last year.

The agency has also come under scrutiny recently from the House Oversight Committee’s Republican leadership. The Committee’s chair, U.S. Rep. James Comer, R-Ky., has spearheaded the Congressional investigation into Hunter Biden’s overseas business dealings and the president’s alleged role in them. Comer has also raised questions about political motivation at the agency.

IRS whistleblowers have testified that the Biden family and associates received roughly $20 million via about 20 overseas shell companies.

Comer has called for evidence from NARA, including details on whether Hunter Biden used Air Force 2 at taxpayer expense to help with the deals, but said NARA has pledged to potentially withhold some Biden records if it deems them to be “personal.”

“However, ‘personal records’ are defined as those records ‘which do not relate to or have an effect upon the carrying out of the constitutional, statutory, or other official or ceremonial duties of’ the Vice President,” Comer said in a letter to Archivist of the United States Colleen Shogan. “The Committee has made clear that its investigation involves potential abuse by then-Vice President Biden of his official duties; it cannot be NARA that determines whether certain records ‘do not relate to or have an effect upon’ those duties.”

This national spotlight on NARA has drawn scrutiny.

“A taxpayer-funded agency, such as NARA, should not be staffed with one political party’s affiliates, while the other party’s affiliates are threatened with termination – assuming they manage to get hired at all – for protesting DIE ideology,” Mason Goad of the National Association of Scholars, told The Center Square. “But you are extremely unlikely to hear DIE advocates, at NARA or any other agency, advocate on the behalf of conservatives for the sake of ‘diversity,’ ‘inclusion,’ or ‘equity.’”

NARA did not respond to a request for comment on its equity policies but told The Center Square it would respond to Comer’s requests for information.

“What the Archives is doing is making those who work there, and those who hope to be hired or promoted, sign a loyalty oath not just to one political party, but to the extremist wing of that party,” Mike Gonzalez, an expert at the Heritage Foundation, told The Center Square. “The way the words in DEI are now defined, each of them lead to unconstitutional measures, too, so not proper for government use. This is the case for the unconstitutional quotas of ‘diversity,’ the language codes of ‘Inclusion,’ or the unequal treatment of races of ‘equity.'”
